This is actually depressing. Imagine what it would be like knowing that you’re the last person on earth. Telling yourself that there are other people out there, to keep a positive outlook on life even though you know it isn’t true. Also, the idea of the robots not trying to kill him outright, but trying to break his spirit is awesome and horrifying at the same time.

This series is strangely addictive. Despite the few episodes that exist, Plague Roach already comes off as such a likeable character. Hopefully you keep making these until they’re inevitably picked up by a network and turned into a show. Keep up the good work dude, your stuff is gold just waiting to be discovered.

  • @ganjagank4787

If humanity was truley dead and he were the last one alive, the robots wouldn't need to do anything to extinguish the last flame of humankind as it would inevitably fade away on it's own as his body decomposes. But it's not, there are many survivors out there in the wasteland listening to and watching his show and becoming inspired by his positivity. Hence the robot's need to break his spirits and crush his positivity. because if they killed him then he would become a martyr which would inspire them even further. Therefore they need to crush his positivity in order to defeat the last of humanity. They are losing and they know it.

I have a theory that the robots are attempting to abduct Plague Roach to create a robot doppleganger of him, as he is a celebrity to those he broadcasts to. This means that he is not actually alone in the apocalypse. If the theory turns out to somehow be true, maybe Plague Roach will piece it together from information the robots accidentally let slip, giving him a new and potent source of positivity.

I used to share an apartment for a half year with a very strange girl who was just like her, full negative energies, trying to get me down in the most passive aggressive ways she could think of. (and I still not sure why because I was super nice at her at first) A bit like Plague Roach here I've learned that positivity is a mindset and energy that doesn't always have to depend on others, and that you can give yourself. Positivity can be an act of resistance.

This series has a very consistent viewership, and I think that's for a reason. Your channel is pretty niche, and whenever I show someone one of your videos, the reaction 100% of the time is, "I've never heard of this guy, this stuff is great". In this series in particular, I think your charm and creativity really shine. Plague Roach, as a character, speaks to a fundamental part of our human experience. We are all lonely, or at least feel lonely at some time. In "Staying Positive in the Apocalypse", we are presented with a character much like ourselves; a man constantly on the verge of collapse, inside and out, due to his crippling isolation. His strength, however, lies in the same attributes that the robots constantly berate him for - his ability to persevere and remain optimistic. The interactions between Roach and the robots mirror our interactions with everyday people; we don't know if anyone is REALLY like us, we just have to trust them. We are confined, and also defined as human beings, by our isolation - i.e. we can only experience what we ourselves can observe and perceive. Roach is always optimistic about the robots he meets, and consistently attempts to trust them despite the overwhelming odds that they are an imposter. Plague Roach is an ideal that we strive for in everyday life, to expand and empathize beyond ourselves, to trust that others are just like us. Plague Roach has the polar opposite of trust issues, he is consistently willing to allow others into his life an gain their perspective (whether it be for his viewers or otherwise). Plague Roach is a relatable character to a very basic part of our being, we have a need to socialize and to understand others. Roach is not desperate for interaction, but he most definitely craves it, just like any human. He broadcasts not to appease his isolation, but to attempt to branch out and share who he is with others, in the hope that survivors can heed his message and understand him in kind.

Really enjoyed watching this- wish there were more episodes. Especially love how tired Plague Roach sounds- as if it's exhausting him to be this positive. Or it's so much a part of him that he can behave like this even when he's at rock bottom.

"An empty mind is like unto a freshly turned sod, if not sown with the seeds of love, duty and honour, the insidious weeds of heresy will take root" Super low key inspriting image of the human spirit not giving up, Doesnt matter if you're sad its the thought of a bright tomorrow to strive towards. Thats not stupid in my opinion its uplifting and righteous.

Anytime people are negative and rude I immediately think of this honestly this shit is right up my alley and there are few things I say I wish I could experience for the first time again and the staying positive in the Apocalypse would have to be one of them. I need more
