Staying in the Tension | The Jonathan and Melissa Helser Podcast

In this podcast episode, Jonathan and Melissa Helser dialogue with Chris Miller and Phyllis Unkefer-two of the core leaders from our community- about staying with God in the tension of life. The conversation centers around why we believe that creativity is essential to life with God.

I'm so angry and heartbroken by the Church in general being so foreign to vulnerability...but God finds ways like this platform to redirect us...

Wow! I’m 53 years old. I have been a “Christian” since I was 5. I have done all the Christian things, mission trips, leadership etc… I have never heard this before, about staying in the tension. When Melissa was sharing her testimony about the perfect painting she had painted and how then the teacher wanted her to mar the whole thing with the sharpie, I wept. I have this feeling all the time. When I get in conflict laden situations, I fall apart inside. Thank you for sharing. But what do I do now? I’m to old for your school. 😓. But I seriously need this, to leave in Jesus name.

I’m 63 myself…praying Grace over all of us to be led by our Good Father to the available tools for us. Thank You Lord you’re NOT restricted to this retreat alone to help us. Whether it’s a book to read, a counselor, a local art class taken with a friend and Holy Spirit…whatever…show us how we too can learn to be “learners again” and give us courage and a safe place/relationship to risk being vulnerable. Make a way Lord!

So many people feel like they can’t even be themselves at their church. It’s like we’ve got some type of fake Christianity going on where so many aren’t even being themselves to themselves or others. We think somehow that we’re supposed to be these perfect people doing perfect things, we can be a little imperfect here and there but not too crazy not too messy. We don’t wanna talk about that. God wants us to be real. Only then can we learn to be a place of healing for others. Where people actually feel safe to be real and can actually learn to be real, like the things you’re talking about. Where people can like you said come to the end of themselves and learn that it’s not about trying to tow the line and learn that they’re really safe, that Jesus really is their safe place and that other brothers and sisters in Christ really are safe. Jesus help us to heal. You are the Lord who heals us. ( the way we perceive life included) Put us back together again whole. Teach us how to be authentic and to live authentically. To learn who you really are and what this is all about.♥️Thank You for sharing your natural way so we can learn too💖restore us from this plastic version Jesus. 🙏☀️

This is such a fantastic way of reaching people who can't be a part of their schools or their retreats, either because of age or finances or time. What another excellent gift from Cageless Birds to share the great deposits they have from G-D and share with us in a way we can experience wherever we are. Love and blessings to you all from Indiana! "How do we not lose heart?" Jonathan says this at 29:15 or so and that would be wonderful question to hear them talk about more. Because many, many people lost heart over the past three years. So good.

This is beautiful, and I’ve been really enjoying these videos. Thank you for sharing. My question would be: Yes, people at the 18 inch journey stay and choose to not reject us in a time of our tension/breaking down, which is beautiful and necessary. However, how do we prepare for the world that rejects us or judges us in a messy time (ex. when we work with so many who deny Jesus)? How can the 18inch journey prepare us for that, if it’s not already doing so? I mean this with the utmost respect and appreciate what you guys do. Love you guys mucho.

I’m 54, and I know exactly where you are, Tammy…I’ve done all the “Christian things”, but it has left me still questioning is God really there? The Lord continues to use the revelation that Jonathon and Melissa have been walking in with Jesus to help me see He IS with me and has been all along since I first said at age 7 during Good News Club, “Yes, I want Jesus!” This teaching gave me a fresh revelation of Psalm 23…that the journey with the Lord will eventually lead you to the table of tension and that’s where we learn our dependency on Him, His faithful to us and we get “oil” in that place for the rest of our journey. His presence is there!!! Yield to that process of learning and it will be so worth it!! I bought a large “history book” like the 18 inch Journey sells and I am creating with Jesus regularly and it is opening up my heart to Him in new and beautiful ways!! I suggest everyone gets one of these and meet Him at the table of tension!! You will learn how it feeds your soul!!

New Covenant Whole Gospel: Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him. He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth. Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis? Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart. Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36) We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24. Watch the KZread videos “The New Covenant” by David Wilkerson, or Bob George, and David H.J. Gay.
