As a huge fan of Agatha Christie, Zero Escape, Umineko, and Danganronpa, seeing this movie at first made me excited, but having finished it there's a few things I've realized: 1.) The detective killing game genre doesn't work as a movie. Viewers need more time with the characters. This should be a genre exclusive to a TV series, book, or visual novel. 2.) If the prize is money, the absolute worst option is to throw the money away. Either give it to a charity, use it for a dying loved one, or use it to fight back against the enemy (ie. the Institute).

After all that i definitely wouldn’t have threw that money away

Always good content. I remember reading this play (called "and then there were none"), in Jr. High-school in the 70s.

So I'm a huge Agatha Christie fan, and as soon as you mentioned/showed the 10 dolls on the table, I immediately thought of "And Then There Were None" and all of the madness that unfolded on Soldier Island.

I'm not throwing that money away... That's compensation for the last week 😭

I wonder if the game turned out differently if there was also a rule "Not to kill or even harm a fellow gamer". 🤔 1week is not that long and since they're a group, it would not be lonely and mentally challenging and they would have all shared the prize-money.

But this was not what the psychopath who created this game had in mind. If the group would live that week peacefully, it won't be exciting neither for the game designer nor for the viewers who watched it on the Internet (probably paying quite a lot for this, so they must get "something" in return for their money). Nobody is creating such shady games with the intention that the participants just live peacefully, as this is "boring". They are expecting blood and horror. Notice that they intentionally placed two agents among the participants (Hero and Anna) whose task was to cause tragic events.

To think that Light Yagami after controlling life and death ended up on that bunker fighting for his life.

In truth, this is based on an OOOLD Agatha Christie mystery, 10 Little Indians (hence the Native American statues on the dining table), also known as "And then there were none" - excellent movie/story, and I liked this modern adaptation too!!

Even people that still things have to make up a personal excuse to be okay with it. "I need it more than they do" "I'm a hustler, the person was just unlucky . Nothing personal". If you can't come up with a good reason, an excuse to do something...you most likely wouldn't do it. That was probably the case of the protagonist

This movie strongly reminds me of Danganronpa, especially with the whole voting on who they think the killer is part.

I love how some lines are read like it is the first time the narrator is reading it. The best one here was when he says that one guy 'brings out a crossbow' and slightly chuckles like 'fuck that escalated quickly and randomly'

You would think he would have learned his lesson from Battle Royale. And of course the seemingly easy task and you'll get so much money, they always come with a catch.

This story is actually based on a real life thing that happened where a bunch of people entered a raffle to be on Japans big game show. The man who won was immediately taken to a small room and stripped of his clothes, and he was only THEN told what the rules of the game show would be. It’s actually a very interesting and fucked up story, the show had to be shut down for torture

Actually, I think this more recalls memories of an old movie from back in the early '80's called Clue, with Christopher Lloyd, Tim Curry and a few others. Slightly different method, but it follows along similar principles.
