The ds1/ds2’s design isn’t complicated as long as you play around with it. You can’t dime this pedal in a bedroom setting. Keep the level low if the distortion is up and vise versa, then use the tone knob to shape the sound, lower is grungy and higher is more buzzy punk stuff, and you can dial back the distortion for a nice Beatles lead. All you have to do is play with it.

@@drwoah7242 if you want to play nirvana in the bedroom, my settings for that are tone 10 o’clock, distortion 5 o’clock (max) and level 9 o’clock (you don’t need much volume if the distortion is up)

Kurt barely used the Rat, the only song he ever used it on was Territorial Pissings. Great pedal, but the DS2 or Sansamp are gonna be your best bet.

Obviously it will be MT-2 It suppresses the midrange and increases the treble and bass that are missing in the EQ, BECAUSE THIS GUY DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO ADJUST IT

You need some speaker sim / IR on the line out - doesnt sound representative and has rhat "no cab fizz". JC amps dont take drive super well IMO but a cool sound.

Boss ds-1 tone should be around 10 to 11 o'clock the rat pedal was used on territorial pissing to DI and used on Heart Shaped Box, the boss metal zone from what ive heard and read was used on You Know You're Right but i am not entirely sure so take it with a grain of salt

The JC22 and the JC40 are not much like the JC120 at all when using distortion pedals. Clearly the MT2 and the RAT sound pretty great here so it's absolutely fine.​@@A7Tones

I have the same metal zone. I heard about it and wanted to get a better sound. I couldn't get it dialed right until recently and I got that pedal a little over 2 years ago 😅

I’ve heard the metal zone pedal sounds much better if you run it through efx loop instead of direct. I really Enjoyed your sans amp pedal video.

I feel like the RAT had the best distortion just my opinion, however all of them had great distortion, the Metalzone petal Definetly would sound great for bends

Nice! But I would recommend turning the tone down on the DS-1, around 10 o’clock will give you the grunge sound

MT2 is the right pedal if you have the wrong amp.

this video did not make me miss my jc22 hahaha. rat sounds the best to me. the ds1 sounded pretty bad through that amp if i do say so myself.

kInD oF a mEMe pEdAl, it’s literally the best pedal there just because Kurt played the Boss DS-1 doesn’t mean it’s better, The Metal Zone just takes brain power to dial in and it usually is only disliked by kids trying to play one through their practice amps

Get the DS2, homie. That Roland is too clean for the DS1. Kurt used whatever amp he could use back in the day, sometimes it was a Fender Twin. But if you’re trying to find the sound from the album, it’s literally three different guitar tracks, including a Mesa and Big Muff out of a Blackface Fender. Welcome to the eternal search of tone, it will never end.

Unironically the mt 2 is the best sounding

Try changing the strings and lowering the action on the guitar then combining the Rat with the Metal Zone for a much more intense tone.
