Statistics 101: One-way ANOVA, Understanding the Calculation
So this is the next video in our series about the analysis of variance, or ANOVA. In Part 2 we go into Microsoft Excel and "hand calculate" a One-way ANOVA. We then compare our result to the SPSS output and Excel's own ANOVA tool.
There are several types of ANOVAs. In this video, we will be focusing on what is called the One-Way ANOVA and in a later video, we will discuss the Two-way ANOVA. It is important to note that One-way ANOVAs go by other names such as the Single Factor ANOVA and in experimental contexts, the Completely Randomized Design. These are all basically the same thing.
If you are new to ANOVA or are still trying to figure out exactly what it is...this video is for you. So sit back, relax, and let's go ahead and get to work.

This video has been a great help to me especially in preparing my report regarding this matter. Your explanation is very clear, with good audio and easy to understand compared to just reading some researches about it. Even if its my first time to study ANOVA I was able to do it myself in Excel. Thanks a lot. More power!
Very Simple Crisp and crystal clear.. just one word,. Simply Awesome! Keep it up brendon

Thanks so much for this - very very well explained - you've made it so easy to follow - it finally makes sense to me. Please keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You are a wonderful teacher indeed.
This is very reassuring, encouraging and easy to follow. I recommend it to any one having difficulties with basic statistics like me.
I have never taken an statistics class before so at the beginning of these series of STATISTICS 101 video I was a bit concern about how much I would be able to grasp. These videos are so well explained that I found myself able to follow along. They are incredibly helpful. Thank you very much for taking the time to produce them.
THANK YOU, thank you so much for mentioning how different books keeps using different notations. I have always had a hard time understanding the terms treatments, factors, groups, levels, replication, etc because of this.
Hi Brandon. i hope you are doing well. I want to thank you for sharing your tremendous knowledge that helps students like me in their studies. Your statistics series are really helping me in my masters program. I had never seen such a brilliant teacher in my life. Your work is highly appreciable. Thank you very much & keep on sharing your knowledge with us.
I am a professor, and I am now learning stat from you to teach my students. Just Kidding !
Brandon this is excellent. Thank you! Max
Thank you so much. This has helped me immensely. You have inspired me to keep working though my statistics class!
These videos are great on their own, but they're really helping supplement my professors sub par teaching
After 5 years your videos are still useful and will still
It is amazing how easy you have made this, thank you for this
You're the best teacher ever👏🏻👏🏻❤️
Thank you so much. you are a great human being!!
It is quite edifying and enjoyable as well (refreshing remembrance of long-time former studies). Thanks for that.
God Bless You! Such an Eminent instructor :)
Best ever explanation on ANOVA...
amazing videos...love the way you go about explaining new topics....keep up the great work :D
Absolutely great and clearly explained. Thanks a lot. keep up this good work.
I am a Dutch student in Applied Biology and laughed when you said ''You will never have to do these by hand, or so I hope''. Because that`s exactly what they expect from us at finals, to do this kind of ANOVA`s and even MANOVA`s by hand.
@christine_15_26

Same. our lecturer wants us to do it all by hand and it is just arrggh. She even uses her own notations and has a template of her own
3 great videos. Thanks Brandon and greetings from Bolivia!
Thank you for giving me an idea how to teach this topic. You are amazing!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Surprise! my exam is next week and it is going to be all by hand! lucky me this is quite an excelent video!
Thank you for these videos and for sharing your knowledge.
i find your video explanations fabulous. i greatly appreciate it.
I have to do ANOVA by hand for my tests.. so this is helpful. Only wish I found/looked for these at the beginning of my semester.
thank you :) i was losing the will to live and you have really helped me understand anova!!!
While a bit slowly paced, these videos are great! Too many teachers gloss over the nuts and bolts of statistical analysis and test only on whether or not students can identify whether p is less than 0.05.
Thank you so much. I am 55 years old and Grad School. You are making this so much easier.
I usually dont comment on youtube videos ...but I really wanted to thank you for the amazing explanation. You saved me just right before the exam. Many thanks again
awesome teaching skills...dont have words about you!
I wish you were my professor! My professor makes us use the formula and do it all by hand. But your video helped me understand what all the data means. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video, it has helped me understand the concept of ANOVA which was a daunting task to grasp.
Honestly speaking, I've been given papers to read using these statistics concepts to prove their hypothesis, and I wish I had seen these videos earlier, which could have saved me tons of time.
I truly appreciate your wonderful teaching and I wish I could support you one day
Easy to understand! Thank You!!
Hello! To find where the differences are, you would have to do a pairwise post-hoc multiple comparisons test like the Tukey HSD, Scheffé Test (equal variances assumed) or Tamhane's T2, Dunnett's C (unequal variances assumed). These are only a few of the tests available out of many. You do those in a stats program like SPSS and it will give you a pairwise table and flag the significant pairs.
Thanks a lot. You really made statistics very easy. Owe you.
Amazing teacher!
Looking forward to Two Way ANOVA tutorial from you. Excellent explanation as usual
You are a great teacher.
