Statistical Tolerancing using Monte Carlo Simulation

Dear Friends,
One of the weak areas in designing parts is deciding tolerances of various parts. Most engineers are familiar with Arithmetic Tolerance stack up analysis wherein they check impact of maximum and minimum values of various tolerances on assembly of parts. However, this can often result in high manufacturing cost. Thus, it may be more appropriate to analyse tolerances using statistical tolerance stack up approach. This can be performed using Monte Carlo Simulation. In one of the previous videos, I had shown how to predict reliability using Monte Carlo simulation.
In this video, I will explain how to perform statistical tolerance stack up analysis using Monte Carlo Simulation. I have used Simular software to demonstrate this with a practical example. Simular is a free software (emailware) which can be downloaded from www.simularsoft.com.ar/. However, one can use other software such as Crystal Ball, @Risk etc. for such analysis. Statistical tolerance stack up is usually an integral part of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) projects.
I hope viewers will find this video useful. Feedback is welcome! For more videos on such topics on Six Sigma Quality and Reliability, please do subscribe to our channel “Institute of Quality and Reliability”!

What if I have many of A, B and C, say 30 of them, and they are arranged as a ring. How can I do a Monte Carlo simulation to calculate the gap as an area? Thank you for your helpful video!

Thanks for interesting question! What is the outcome expected? If it is circle, the radius of this circle can be simulated. Don't know whether this answers your question.

Hello, thanks for the video. I'm a bit confused about tolerance, so I'd like to ask a question using a pratical example. Let's say the goal specified in the project charter is to reduce the lead time of a process from 40 to 20 days. Can I consider these 20 days as a tolerance limit?

Hello friend, usually tolerance refers to specification by designers for some components or assembly. In your case, you may consider the target and upper bound as a tolerance.

Hello friend, I thought I had shown the procedure to APPLY Monte Carlo using a particular software. As you need to generate thousands of random numbers, you need software to generate these. I did not understand your comment which I am finding unfortunate. Please explain what you mean and expect from the video.
