He actually wrote the lyrics of that song and he did an interview with johnny about this in Music Space, it is like a new nct segment posted here in youtube and he talked about child there and performed it live.

This is the kick off for the new NCT Lab Project!!! NCT is going to be releasing songs through SM Station by either individual members or units or groupings with songs that are either self-composed, self-written or just to show more of the members personality/musical creativity. Super excited!

Mark actually wrote this song some time ago, he said himself it's not a new song, so I feel like it really reflects a lot of his internal thoughts as he was getting bigger and bigger within his kpop career. He was really nervous to release it, he kept saying he hoped his fans liked it and is so humble about all the praise he's been getting! I'm so glad you all reacted to it, Mark Lee is amazing and his solo is so amazing!!

I spat out my water at "Kai's 'do rag." I thought the same - we must be on the same wavelength. The song is a different vibe than what I was expecting as well but unsurprisingly, it's SO him. He's one of the members that you'll find playing the guitar on a livestream or wherever he finds one on set. I wasn't surprised that a guitar would be the main instrument here. What surprised me the most was that he sang for most of the song and the rap parts were a little more subdued than what we are used to hearing. Lyrically, it's quite poignant when you think about how he entered SM Entertainment at 12/13 years old, moving to a completely different country. Like you said, he was a pro-debuter being in multiple groups, having over 50 songwriting credits to his name, and is one of the hardest working K-Pop idols out there. I'm sure there was a lot of pressure on him to live up to a certain standard or present a certain image at a young age. The song reminded me of his verse in YESTODAY. He participated in composing the song, he was also involved in the making of the music video and he wrote the lyrics to the song

he said he wanted to drop it last year but the opportunity only came recently with the whole NCT LAB w/ station thing, he said it was written during a time he was struggling, he said he needed support and got it, and a lot of the video, clothing, lyrics and sound are nods to things like other music videos, clothing pieces that mean a lot to him and ofc his guitar playing (why it sounds like a lil grunge rock beat plus "i pull at the strings when im p1ssed") so definitely a hands on project from him, excited for upcoming lab releases bc ik they're holding back A LOT of stuff

I don't know if you guys have seen Mark's SuperM trailer from a couple years ago but that's definitely something to check out as a fan of him. His extra verse of "Super Car" should've been in an extended version or something. Lol

Radiohead was my first thought, too. That instrument part reminds me them. Everyone was surprised by Mark. That only proves how we actually don't know him, Who is he in real life, what he love, etc. I think he got what he want with this song. Make people think. Think about lyrics. Really good. 7:23 - exactly! I was thinking along the same line -- you sometimes get caught in a 'role' so much that you end up forgetting about yourself. Or that you never knew how to bring yourself out because you've been asked to fulfil a role at such a young age that you end up not not knowing who you are, thus his line... "Who am I, Who I'll be" So, you've got this 'inner child' that may never be able to express itself; you can only hope that you realize it before it's too late.
