The 18th of March 2023 would see Statfold Barn open their 2ft narrow gauge railway to the public for their 'Spectacle of Steam' event, featuring a plethora of narrow gauge traction, primarily made up of steam locomotives from across the world, in action during the day. Being an open-access site allowed for a higher variety of vantage points along the running line, which I made use of. The event also saw the opening of the 'Mease Valley Light Railway', but I haven't covered this as I was busy covering the 2ft gauge railway.
Unfortunately, the weather was anything but great. Constant downpour after downpour made things difficult - and yours truly was very wet by the end of the day. Matters weren’t helped when my VX870 developed faults halfway through the day and I had to use my Mi 11 Ultra as backup, so apologies for the changes in quality during the video.
Due to this video's length, it has been broken down into ‘Chapters’ where certain parts of the video have been labelled correspondently. LS = Lineside; all shots taken from stations and vantage points. WS = Windowside; all shots taken from the droplights of passenger trains - the locomotive/s hauling it will be added too. You can view these chapters in the video playback bar or in the description where they’ll be listed with the timecode.
Despite the technical setbacks and uncontrollable weather patterns, it was a superb day and I'll definitely be returning to cover this site in the future when another event like this is put on.
