    Man, it’s been 30 years already I was just 8 years old going from Bondi Junction to Kingscross Station with my old man after soccer training. It was the first week after the SRA rolled out the Tangara set and to me this train is the pinnacle representation of the 1980s. The smell of newly installed plastic panels & slash-prof fabric seating, access to the next carriage via the dual sliding doorway system, audible opening/closing of doors and the drivers electronic control panel. Yep, I was blown away as an 8 year old!

    Aww, good old Tangaras! They were definitely my favourite when I was a little girl. And they certainly have stood the test of time (faulty Destos aside; I don't think I've EVER seen one that actually works), especially up against certain infrastructure-shy state governments neglecting our railways. Living on the T1 line, I still ride on these all the time.

    They have aged very well. They are almost indistinguishable from an Oscar or Waratah if you are in daydream mode. One time about 15 years ago I overheard two American gents commenting how smooth the ride is and how "these sure take a lot of beating" and they were right.

    The first train I went on in Australia. Airport to Town Hall. Thought they were fantastic, still do. Been on loads of them now on subsequent trips over. Those that think they're crap, you want to endure what us had in the North of England since the 1980s were shocking. Most of the new rolling stock went to the south east of England. Only more recently have new trains been delivered to the North of England. And we are no different with most of them built abroad or brought over from abroad as a kit of parts and manufactured in the UK. Those tangaras still look good now and I've never felt the ride felt shoddy.

    Been on this train twice South line Sydney Town Hall Station to Liverpool via Granville. If you want to know what is the closest American made train that has a similar age as this it's going to be your Long Island Railroad M3 1987-1988. G set Metro-North Railroad M6 1993-1995. Keep in Mind LIRR C1s do look like CityRail L,R,S & V sets because of the Comeng design

    I don’t know why everyone hates the Tangara personality it’s my favourite. The Tangara was the train that started my obsession I remember sitting at the train station back in 2008 (5 at the time) seeing all the Tangaras in service I remember the pure joy it gave me when it would arrive at the station I don’t see Tangaras that much anymore. Does anyone know what lines they run on more ?? :)

    Alisha trains are done in Sydney by sector. This means you will most likely get the tangaras on T4 and T1. I’m not sure if they run on T5 or T7 and either way, most of them are scheduled on the prior lines. You probably thought you saw them more as tangaras used to run frequently on the T2, T3 and T8(although at the time the T8 was part of the T2) which means that they used to run the city circle.

  • @nicholetheotter1957

    @nicholetheotter1957

    Alisha It’s mostly the T1 Northern/Western/North Shore and T4 Eastern Suburbs/Illawarra lines. They’re definitely a lot more common on the latter, because they’re the only thing on that line.

Soon, they'll be getting new features such as CCTV cameras, information screens, digital voice announcements, new controls and LED destination signs. It'll be their biggest round of modifications to date, and is certain to keep them in service for at least another 20 years.

    What arebyou talking about?!xthe tangara was a success. The first trains to have airconditioning and just because it had a history of crashes and derailment. That was caused by humans and the tracks twisting and warpingbin the sun. Personally the T set was a modern marvel for trains in 1989 as ither trains in different country where just like the silver sweat box you love
