State of the Watch De-Braceletization

Unable to resist the inclination to replace all of my watch bracelets with straps, I sit down and do my State of the Watch De-Braceletization and look a the highlights of my Seiko SLA051 Uemura, my Seiko SPB151 Captain Willard, my Seiko SPB143, my Seiko SPB147, my Seiko SLA055, my Seiko SLA023, and my Seiko Tuna SBBN049. My book The Watch Survivor: A Guide Through the Traps, Pitfalls, and Strange Habits of Watch Enthusiasts is on Amazon Kindle:

I will forever remember where I was when I first heard the news of the Great De-Braceletization. I hope that one day my kids will go on to pass the story to their kids of where their father was on this momentous day. I can picture it now, as little Giacomo, Cosimo, Lucrezia, Leonardo, even unfortunately named Adolfo, and Michelangelo too, all gaze with wonderment as their father retells the story of their Nonno during Great the De-Braceletization. Their faces all lit chiaroscuro style while they try to huddle and keep warm around a fire in the post apocalyptic waste land of the new coalition of remaining 21 United States. A hellish survival of the fittest world that is ruled with an polymimetic alloy fist of the reanimated head of Nixon in a giant jar atop a terminator endoskeleton body, where the kids dream of one day having such problems as what strap or bracelet best go with a wrist watch.

I'm a strapaholic myself Jeff. No single watch ever remains on a bracelet for too long. I buckled recently & bought the Marine Green GMT. The bracelet is actually not too shabby although the extra weight is particularly noticeable on the wrist. I reckon it'll be a tougher proposition to pair with straps due to the dial colourway. Perhaps he black rubber OEM that comes with the 147 will do the job.

Totally agree with the de-braceletisation thesis of your last few videos. It's something I've found with my own "bunch" of watches. For example. I recently - over - stretched for a new Explorer. The most understated of their watches, an oxymoron if ever. Yet it is still too much. It's going on a tatty adjustable fabric. I love watches on bracelets, but I can't cope with the pushyness. They shout too loudly. Fun videos. Please keep it up 👍

I'm going to tell you a funny story: I'm watching your video and enjoying it while my wife asked "what are you watching?" I'm watching this guy's cool Seiko watch collection, do you want to see it? She says (sure let me see those watches). After 10 minutes in it, she asks me: (why is he showing the same watch over and over again?). Guess what my answer was? Woman, I love you very much but this was your last video about watches that you had watched with me!!! So, I rewatched the video again by myself. Now, I end up with a question. Is it only me or is anybody else who see significant difference in your watch collection???

I’m all aboard the de-braceletization train. I think steel bracelets, for the most part, all look alike and are so boring and they do take away from the purity of the case and dial. There are so many nice strap options available including rubber, sail cloth, NATO, etc. that come in so many different styles and colors. I wish there was an option to just purchase a watch without a bracelet. For the price of most stainless steel bracelets I can purchase multiple straps in various colors and materials.

Everyone has their preference, but I do not like divers on bracelets. I wear my divers on either Uncle straps or Divecore. I like the Uncles because they are period accurate. Their waffle, chocolate bar, and GL831 are my favorites. Divecore straps are a little overpriced, but they look and wear great.

You are not wrong at all McMahon, i too lost the love for bracelets some years ago. They feel oxymoronic when paired with the concept of a dive watch. I also think that a large part of it is lazy design on the part of watch brands, just pairing everything with some turd of an imitation oyster bracelet.
