Stasis, Boomerang, Serra angel and alot of counterspells was one of my favorite decks during Revised era.

…you need howling mines so you draw a lot of land to support the upkeep and a card that eventually lets you shuffle your graveyard into your library. You eventually mill their deck as they’ll run out of cards. Use force of wills and arcane denials as counters is nice too. So it’s primarily a blue deck (using boomerang on your stasis) with artifacts and just like 2 kismet and 2 disenchants and like 0 creatures. Don’t let your opponents know but for them to beat it they need to destroy your howling mines (not your stasis) in the hope for them to eventually untap.

Forsaken City can pay the upkeep cost indefinitely. Chain of Vapor or Rescue can bounce Stasis at the end of your opponent's turn to give you an untap step. Howling Mine makes sure you hit most of your land drops and have plenty of counterspells (Force of Will, Force of Negation, Misdirection, Daze, Thwart) ready to protect Stasis. The symmetrical draw effect also combines with Black Vise to chip away at your opponent's life total. Orb of Dreams gives you a hard lock so your opponent can't "save up" their untapped lands to play around Stasis. Pithing Needle protects Forsaken City from Wastelands. Urza's Saga can grab Black Vise or Pithing Needle.

Going further, Stasis decks now have access to Forsaken City, which is a land that doesn't untap on your untap phase, but you can exile a card from your hand at the beginning of your upkeep to untap it, and it taps for any color. So, you untap Forsaken City by pitching a card, and then you pay for Stasis, so you will be able to keep Stasis around for as long as you have cards in hand. Another card for modern Stasis decks is Eon Hub, which makes everyone skip his or her upkeep. So, now no one has an untap step, and you don't have an upkeep, so you never actually have to pay for Stasis. It is still very interesting to get insight into how these cards were played back before we had all the cards we have today. Thanks for adding this as a segment for your channel!

I actually really like this video. I didn't really start playing until Onslaught, but i like the history lesson, what decks were and how they were played back in the day. I would definitely tune in for more retrospectives on oldschool decks.

It looks cool to me i have only been playing for 3 months and i have m15 and Khans cards so those cards i guess will be either expensive or hard to find to do that "combo" of a sorts

Time Elemental was the absolute best way to lock them down. I can't believe that creature was not mentioned in this video at all. Play Stasis + Kismet and bounce the stasis back at the end of their turn. 2B+2 Colorless was semi expensive, but it was damn sure better than this 3 color abomination you're showing. Blue/White is Stasis....I'd challenge any other iteration of the Stasis deck with my old one. Of course, I'm sure some of the cards I used in that build are banned or restricted now.....Force of Will, Mana Leak, Land Tax, Zuran Orb, Ivory Tower.....deck was nasty.

I absolutely despised people who played Stasis decks back during my Type 1 days. I had some decks that drove people insane like my mono-black control deck (before Hymn To Tourach was restricted) but I would never make my opponents suffer against a Stasis deck.

  • @ToddReynolds420

+HBSanta That mono-black Necropotence deck was the very reason I started paying Blue/White Stasis. If you can manage to counter that turn 1 Hippie or Hymn, you're golden. If you let them start taking cards, you're dead.....

My buddy plays an epic mono blue stasis combo deck that functions much better than this, although this is a good concept, but all you need to do is return stasis to hand end of opponents turn, and drop in the enchantment that makes all lands opponent plays come into play tapped, and then they are locked out

True, but a lot of people weren't playing back at the start of Magic. It's fun to see (or in my case reminisce) of how things "used to be done" way back at the beginning of it all. Keep up the videos, openboosters!

***** Well said. I also quit during Ice Age (although I'm just starting to get back into it now). These "combo" videos are a cool way to show newer players how magic used to be played. You have to admit, though, that the combos that openboosters presents in his videos ARE outdated. Same category as Channel+Fireball, heh.

***** Magic is FAR more complex today than it was back in 1994, though. I can understand why newer players would see these combo videos and not be very impressed (to say the least). I like the videos, though, because they remind me of the good ol days of Mtg.

Stasis has to be the weirdest art work in Alpha. That card is just the worst to play against.
