Stashbusting - Sewing an Outlander Inspired 18th Century Short Cloak

Due to some unfortunate or maybe actually fortunate circumstances I ended up with 1 yard of mustard colored yellow wool. Originally I hoped to make a pelisse out of 8 yards, but had to change my plans. Out of all the ideas given to me by the lovely folks on Instagram the idea stuck that I should make an 18th century short cloak. I realized that the reason I wanted a mustard yellow cloak is because of Claire’s gorgeous ensemble during the Paris past of Outlander. Mine will be much simpler and made out of wool instead of silk but still inspired by it. This will hopefully be a versatile piece in my historical wardrobe, and maybe even for time I want to history bound.

Hey Sophie, I've noticed in your videos that you have problems with having to rethread your machines often. I'm also seeing that you've missed the second last step of threading the machine, which is that little bit of wire near the shank of the needle that you need to pull your thread through just before you thread your needle. It's such a small step and I always forget to do it, but I notice that I don't have to rethread as often when I do remember to get it in there. Just a little tip from another beginner sewer! You've inspired me to keep going with my stays project though! Keep on sewing!

I want like five in all different colors! So cute! And I love under stitching because not only does it make things look really nice and professional but it also makes you sound super fancy!

I say the word chunk so many times way too close together 😂 I really need to expand my vocabulary
So cute. I love it. I love how simple it is and now if I have about a yard of wool I know what I can do.

Love this. I’ve made two cakes in the past 45 years-lined the blue velveteen one with red flannel so it’s as warm and soft as a cozy comforter. Hide the stitches in the pleats with a tassel or a cute little bow.

I was going to but I was just playing around in one evening and put some together. It was so quick and easy I didn’t think it was worth it. I was following SewLouds blog tutorial. You can find it by googling 18th century mitts tutorial. It’s great!

I've made short 18th Century Jackets out of 1 yard of wool before. You just have to piece a lot of the hem. LOL

That would be because it isn't a tutorial video, but rather a video of her turning a mistake by the company that she ordered her material from , into something very useful and pretty.
