It’s four in the morning here in Montana and I’m watching one of your videos. I just want to thank you for all of your wise and consistent instruction. Most especially your organization techniques and your solid ironing emphasis. These are key….especially if you have a small house. I am 74 now and live alone with only one cat🤣….so turning the dining room into a workshop doesn’t impact anyone but me…and my friends salute me. Every day I walk out of my bedroom to my “workshop” and thank the Lord for this chapter of life.💕Cathy

While.i am looking at 2+months of double shifts at my day gig and tax preparation, the small amounts of at home time can be used effectively for fabric and pattern selection to prepare for my next several quilts. Thank you for all your hard work and the help over our hurdles.

My mother-in-law taught me how to start quiting on a tight budget. To finish her quilts she would leave a good 1/2 inch of fabric (top &bottom)past the batting . To bind it, she took edge of the quilt top and folded it over the batting. Then folded the bottom in/under the batting so top and bottom were face to face, raw edges folded in. Once this was pinned in place she gave it a good press and did a zig-zag stitch around the very edge with the outside stitch just off the fabric. This mimics a surging/overcast type stich. You can leave it that way or it makes it easier to add a regular binding. This is great when ur just learning how to sew binding because it holds everything together while trying to attach a binding.

I’ve watched all of your stash-buster quilt videos, and I’m drawn to this one most, but with some modifications for my niece’s baby quilt (first baby). First, I have small juvenile prints with animals on them, each matched with a darker tiny-dot fabric. I have full width of fabric 1/2 yards or more of each (some were remnants). But when I make a 2” wide “window”, it hacks up the animals too badly. Sock monkeys with no heads or no legs, birds you can’t tell ARE birds, etc. Distressing! So I think I want to start with 3.5” strips (3” finished), and have fewer final blocks. Also, I like the idea of a 48x48” baby quilt, so my finished quilt will end up between the sizes of your two. Finally (as if this weren’t enough), I liked 8 pairs of fabrics - each with an animal print and a tiny polka-dot. So I think my finished quilt will be scrappier - more like your Kaffe quilt than the other one. So. My question (finally!) - Do you see ANY issue with doing all of this and kind of winging it? Thanks in advance!

Love the colors in the zinnia quilt! I wanted it! You know it is funny, but I have made so many quilts over the years but no one turns around and makes me one. I was telling hubby this while he was building out house. Well that guy made me a quilt out of marble pieces cut in strips in two different colors and he set it up as a log cabin quilt - one of my favorites! - at the landing at the bottom of our stairs. My binding trouble is one that you probably can't solve. When attaching binding, you have to hold the bulk of the quilt and hold it in such a way that the binding gets sewn down correctly. As hard as I might try, my shoulders are screaming at me from what I have to do to get the binding on accurately.

I was cleaning out the chaos in my sewing space today and was faced with a TON of scraps of every size. Normally I address the scraps created from my sewing each time a finish a project, but lately I've had one thing on top of another and so they've begun to reproduce while my back was turned! So, in an effort to get things under control, I've begun cutting them down to the appropriate sizes and was amazed at the size of my stash! Not to mention my orphan blocks! So, I just wanted you to know that this video has inspired me to set a goal for 2021.... It is going to be a full year of stash busting! The only leaway I'm giving myself is that 1) not everything needs to be a quilt but can be smaller (or other) projects, and 2) the only fabric I'm going to buy is for sashing, binding, and backing. (Yeah, this will be the hard one to stick to!) Anyway, I'm super excited about this! And I will be referencing your stash busting videos regularly. Thank you for your hard work and help in putting these videos out there for us. They are super helpful and useful. Have a blessed day!

I never know how wide I should make the binding fabric and always seem to stick at 2 1/2" but then when it's done I'm not completely happy with it. There are so many ways to bind a quilt. I would love a video featuring your method. Thank you for this stashbuster video. Right about now, I am wondering what to do with Halloween fabric I’ve had for awhile.

I am new to your channel, new subscriber as well. You are an excellent presenter! Clear, concise and well-organized. Sometimes you say you have struggled to present a tutorial - well, from a viewer's perspective, your high-quality results are worth your effort. I have been watching your videos in order but just saw your "good news" vlog and wanted to add my rejoicing to all of your video friends'. I'm an experienced dressmaker but not a very good quilter - I would also like a tutorial on bindings, specifically on keeping a binding smooth. (PS - I'm almost convinced now that I can actually do a successful HST!)

So much less stress on your face and in your voice since your son's recovery. Love your presentation methods. Would love tips on alternate kinds of corners on bindings. I see and understand how to make the turn but it never seems to come out perfectly. I suspect accuracy issues.

Love these! Could you a video on a quilt where the backing is also the binding? I'm a hand sewist (once shops can do lessons again I'll see if I can get help with my machine but until then...) I've seen some videos on making a backing bigger than the quilt and wrapping it around to make a binding on the front. I'd love to see your take on it

Yes, I would like to see you do a binding video. I would like to be able to do an all machine sewn binding that I'm reasonably happy with. I also have issues with ending up with just a little too much binding fabric when I sew the ends together.

Just made this! took the morning and kept sewing and cutting and ironing. i took the left over cut scraps and made a scrappy random border and have less than a handful of scraps. Bright oranges and yellow lemons so fun and easy!! hoping to do a self binding backing to finish it all off.

I have so much fabric, I can start a little shop. Lots of those fat quarters I didn't wanted to use, because I love the print so much, and they are just in my drawers.Where I look at them and think, maybe...some day... But it is time to use them, and you have so many easy to make quilts, I love it. Thank you for sharing and the inspiration.

This would make an adorable table topper for any season. You could use spring fabrics, summer fabrics, fall fabrics and then Christmas fabrics - good grief you could go on and on with this pattern! How awesome!. Would love to see a video and round table toppers/runners. There are tons of vids on table runners in general, but not for round tables like mine. I would love to see how that is done.

If you read the comments below mine, I have some of the same issues as the others. I bind from the top, I bind from the bottom, still the same. I know I will get it at some point, but after a couple of years I still struggle. Every now and then, one will turn out great, but then the next one is awful. I would love to see how you do it and perhaps it will be something that will click for me. Thanks so much for your videos. The lady that does quilting for me gave me a bag of fabrics, and I think this might be a good pattern for them! I'm gonna try!
