Why can't you just keep the patterned fabric in a rectangle, sew contrasting solid bands on top and bottom to make a stripe, and then cut the wedges afterwards with a ruler, alternating with the direction each time? It'll save so many scraps and be way quicker. And also, how come the inserted panels finished with raw edges They probably should have been turned in? Usually your patterns are really good, this one seems just really strangely designed.

I thought the same thing. And I don't see how using the quilt as you go method saves time in this case. It is a small table topper. You would probably have a better result of you just pieced the top, then quilted it.

I can resew the borders on again, however, I do not have anymore material of the fabric I stretched. :( Thank you in advance for your help. Reba

Once you're ready to add borders, measure the length of the quilt through the center, not on each side. Cut the border pieces the same length as your length measurement. Ease them in, don't stretch them, and they will fit perfectly--no waving borders.Repeat for the width.

loriar1027 generally I would....... but this sewing machine is new to me by via inheritance I don’t have a manual with it but the feed dogs can be dropped and I’ve been KZreading everything I can about it my aunt, grandma, mom and myself all used singer foot operated sewing machines to make civil war ball gowns and clothing for civil war rendezvous we also used to spin our own thread on a spinning wheel and loomed our own fabric my main focus at that time was just spinning threads and looming fabric I did some sewing but not a lot at that time..... since the passing of my grandma and aunt I’ve been mainly working with skins and hides but I have bolts and rounds of fabric that is absolutely amazing that was loomed by myself and aunt and grandma I thought it would be great to make a commemorative quilt for my grandpa and mom aunt of the fabrics and threads that we all have spun and loomed and I appreciate your reply very much!!!!
