Starving cancer away | Sophia Lunt | TEDxMSU

Just like our healthy cells, malignant cancer cells need energy to survive. Dr. Sophia Lunt explains how she intends to cut off cancer cells' survival potential, and pioneer a new way of halting their growth.
Dr. Sophia Lunt began her training in metabolism at Princeton University, where she received her Ph.D. studying the metabolic consequences of the antibiotic drug trimethoprim. As a postdoctoral fellow at MIT, she focused on cancer metabolism, and was awarded the CDMRP PRCRP Visionary Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Department of Defense to support her research. She currently runs a research lab focused on cancer metabolism at Michigan State University.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

    Doctors do tend to be idiots, but so is this lady. Cancer cells not only use glucose and fructose sugars as fuel sources, but also ketones that also promote cancer metastases, lactate, fatty acids and some amino acids. Therefore, cancer cells cannot be starved. And cutting out all sugar, even if it could be done will not make a difference. Furthermore, around 95% of cancers have origins from viral infections. To a lesser extent bacterial infections, mycotxins, radiation and in extremely rare cases parasites. Cutting out sugars do not address the causes of cancer either.

In addition, fasting has been shown to suppress thyroid function, which is why the metabolism slows down during periods of starvation. Laetrile (amygdalin) does not cure cancer. The concept is supposed to be that the cyanide formed will kill the cancer cells while the healthy cells enzymatically break down the cyanide in to a harmless thiocyanate. The problem is that the healthy cells break down the the most of not all the small amounts of cyanide formed long before it can reach most cancer cells. This is one of the problems with testimonials. They tend to leave out many facts, such a other things the person did that actually do work. When people get a cancer diagnosis they often do multiple things such as changes in diet, supplements, etc. Then if they get cured they pick one thing to give credit to.

    I wrote this blog for my facebook family back in November 2015... November 13, 2015 Just got back from the Docs office, had some blood test done as part of my regular check-up. Could not be better, all is in working order :) . I work really hard on diet and exercise as a part of my daily life in an attempt to stay healthy, and hopefully slow down the aging process. At my age to avoid sickness and disease one must apply all knowledge and understanding of such things. I have seen to many of my friends fall prey to these things, to many that which are dead, dying, or just plain miserable. It sickens me at the thought, and if I could help someone to better their life, even avoid death, I am more than willing to help. I have taken several fitness, and nutrition courses over the years, and I am continually doing research to expand my knowledge. Personally, I have overcome many obstacles in my life. I cannot express enough of the importance of fresh, unprocessed whole foods along with exercise. Know what you are putting into your body. Start reading the ingredients of the products you consume. If at all possible stay away from foods with things like high fructose, aspartame, GMOs, enriched flour, etc. I was taught that if you see sugar in the first three on the ingredient list, don't buy it. Things like Cancer feed off of fats and sugars. You want to kill the Cancer, starve it. Better yet, avoid cancer altogether. Most people have a lower than normal PH balance due to the acidic foods and beverages we consume(sodas, coffee,etc.). Your PH Balance should be 7.0 or higher to avoid getting sick. Alkalize your body by eating high alkaline foods(Greens). You would be amazed at the amount of toxins you have in your body. Drink lots of water. Don't be afraid to get a colonic and detox. Take the time to educate yourselves. Pay attention to what your body is doing. It will usually tell you when something is wrong. Don't wait till your sick or dying, make that lifestyle change now before its too late. I do this out of love for all simply because, I Care. I understand that for many it is difficult to make such a lifestyle change even when facing death. I remember a time when I was trying to get my father to quit smoking, he was suffering, and I wanted him to be with us longer. He told me "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink it". He was gonna live his life the way he wanted to whether or not it killed him. I know many make this choice but think about the loved ones you leave behind. Nobody wants to see someone suffer, and leave sooner than need be. A good tool to learn is that Google search box, use it...Love and Blessings...

    The comment above is very right I would rather stay above neutral at 7.00 pH. I would rather be alkaline. Being alkaline you will not catch most diseases sickness ailments cancer and more. An acidic body is a body that is starving for oxygen and full of carbon dioxide which could eventually kill you. An alkaline body is full of oxygen and will not catch and get most diseases sickness ailments cancer and more. An alkaline body is excellent perfect health overall. An acidic body is in poor failing health. Needs drastic life-changing ways immediately health and diet turn around. Sure you don't catch cancer but stay acidic long enough and cancer cells will grow eventually along with a bunch of other problems. Like someone I knew that was in very poor health and their health was failing. That person said you got to die of something and the person is gone now. I tried to help him but it just wouldn't work. Their mind was made up. Because it was too hard for them to change what they eat drink and exercise was just too much.

    The truth about sugar and cancer has been out for a long time. But we don’t always get the proper information or assimilate that information into our diet and lifestyle because it means living a different lifestyle than most around us. It really takes getting a cancer diagnosis for many of us to be awakened to our diet habit and lifestyle. We are also surrounded by the unavailability of healthy foods and promotion of unhealthy foods. Being healthy is still our responsibility, and we ourselves have to do the hard work to fight misinformation, ingrained unhealthy lifestyle and diet choices. We can’t sit back and wait for Congress to pass laws to help us in this cancer fighting effort.

    Nyabaro Benson, actually I am changing my tune. I watched this again and actually, this video was great. She did a great job on this. The main thing I took away was, how very very important it is to stay away from sugar - always. Also, since we know that carbs turn into sugarl, then we need to also try to eat minimal carbs. But also, it was very educational how she showed us how the medical industry uses glucose to light up a persons body in order to detect cancer. That was very educational and brings her whole speech home. She completely backed up her "cancer loves sugar" statement. She did a great job! : )

    You won't learn this because the information is incorrect. You cannot starve cancer. Cancer cells can use glucose, fructose, ketones, lactate, fatty acids and some amino acids as fuel sources. Many of these are produced in the body, so again, cancer cannot be starved. Ketones are not only a fuel source for cancer cells, but they also promote cancer cell metastases by activating enzymes such a hyaluronidase and proteolytic enzymes that allow metastases.

Simply cutting out sugar, even if this was possible, will not stop cancer.

  • @oolala53

    @oolala53

    Жыл бұрын

    I don't think she talked about sugar intake at all. I was expecting that but didn't hear it. The body can make sugar from protein anyway, so I can see that sugar intake might not be that impactful. She never talks about starving the patient, either, Dr. Valter Longo has worked with doctors in cancer treatment to develop a "diet" that mimics starvation because that DOES affect the efficacy of the drugs. After 4 days of water only fasting, noncancerous cells are not affected much by the chemo but the cancer cells are. The patient gets much less sick from chemo. He figured out a ratio of nutrients and a number of reduced calories that can mimic what happens durijng water fasting. Of course the company that now markets the product sells it as a weight loss tool, which is a real corruption. And it is not low carb, though not high carb, either, IN fact it is low protein.

  • @Hveragerthi

    The vast majority of cancers have been linked to viral infections. Cancer is not from diet. And cutting out sugars or fasting will not cure cancer in part because these do not address the cause. I addition, cancer cells can use glucose, fructose, ketones, lactate, fatty acids and some amino acids as fuel sources. Since many of these are generated by the body, you cannot stave cancer.

    Recent research has stated that for some type of cancer, the PET scan definitely give different results about sugar consumption. To me, pancreas cancer is a bad example of such a topic as I have seen some researches concluded that pancreas cells metabolise sugar very differently from other organ cells, which is the same situation for the pancreas cancer cells. In short, other types of cancer may not need as much sugar as pancreas cancer, but more dependent on protein intake.

    One major problem is that healthy cells and cancer cells use the same exact methods of energy production and thus the same exact fuels. And there is no reason to go through such lengths. Many proven cancer cures already exist, but they just are not allowed to protect the profits of big pharma and non-profts such as the American Cancer Society and the American Leukemia and Lymphoma Society that would not exist any longer if cancer was allowed to be widely cured. The safest and most effective cancer cure ever found is ozone therapy. It not only selectively kills cancer cells in a chain reaction, through a peroxide overload. it also increases anti-cancer cytokines and superoxide dismutase, boosts immunity, destroys cancer pathogens and destroys many carcinogens. Since ozone therapy when properly administered increases levels of antioxidant enzymes such as catalase and peroxidases, it is self protective not harming healthy cells. Ozone therapy has been around since 1892 and in the U.S. since 1898, which means under the law ozone therapy has a gandfathered approval status. Still, the FDA uses illegal means to suppress this legal therapy since the FDA is on big pahrma's payroll. If you do some real research on the FDA you will see what i mean. The FDA has been caught in so much illegal activity for self benefit and to protect pharmaceutical profits, such as the generic drug scandal where the FDA was caught approving untested drugs in exchange for payoffs or ignoring a 1969 Court order to remove 710 FDA approved prescription drugs from the market that were found to be worthless or too deadly for human use. Many of these drugs such as dextromethorphan (DM) used in many cough medicines despite being found in multiple studies to be worthless, are not only still on the market, but also no longer require a prescription. Even ex-Commissioner for the FDA, Herbert Ley, testified before Congress that the FDA was using governmental police powers to protect the profits of the pharmaceutical companies, and in turn were being rewarded with high level jobs, payoffs and gifts. Such outright corruption within the FDA has been reported for many decades, but nothing is ever done about it since big pharma has the money and power to control politicians, and pharmaceutical executives are often put in positions of power within government. For instance, President George Bush, who owned stock in several pharmaceutical companies such as Eli Lily, had several pharmaceutical executives in his cabinet. Ozone therapy has not only been proven in numerous medical studies to be a safe and effective cure for cancer, but also for many other diseases and conditions such as heart disease, covid, herpes infections, burns, spinal degeneration, stokes, to stop gangrene, etc. making it a major financial threat to the pharmaceutical industry. This is why the FDA goes to so many illegal lengths to make sure ozone therapy cannot be widely used as a therapy in the United States like it is in some other countries. Again, there are all sorts of studies proving the efficacy of ozone therapy for a variety of diseases and conditions in the medical journals. These can be found through various sources such as PubMed. medical databases and books such as The Use of Ozone in Medicine, which was written for doctors on how to properly use ozone for different things.
