Starting Winter Van Life | Freezing Pipes & Epic Snow in the Czech Republic 🇨🇿🚐❄️
We've spent over two years, living & traveling in our tiny van, Jits! We've experienced the warm summers of Portugal & Spain, and we've been exposed to moments of cold, in Switzerland & Scotland. But until now, we haven't fully embraced winter in a van. This is the first film of our winter van life series and we explore the often overlooked destination of the Czech Republic, and soon discover it has a lot more to cover beyond Prague. Whether you're a long-time subscriber or new to our travel community, we're excited to have you join us!
Lots of love, Tania & Adam!

Hello Friends! 🥰 We are so excited to share with you our first film in our Winter van life series. 🚐 ❄ As we mentioned, we have experienced the cold in Scotland & Switzerland but this is the first time that Jits is truly embracing the winter. Please let us know if the comments if you’ve enjoyed this film. Did you think the snowy hike up to the tower was worth freezing our feet & hands off? Have you been to the Czech Republic before and would you now consider visiting? Lastly, who do you think we’re meeting up with, in Austria? If you’d like real-time updates then be sure to follow us on Instagram & Facebook. instagram.com/jits.into.the.sunset Sending you lots of love, and wishing you a happy & healthy New Year! 💛 xx Tania & Adam

I’ve no idea about campervans but in a house you’d turn the water off, open all the taps and drain the system so that there’s no water left in the pipes. You’d also leave all the taps open. Hope that helps

I'm glad you visited Czech.😊 Coz it's my home.
John, from Ontario, Canada here again. What can I say? I just lost myself in your wonderful trip and with all that snow, I felt quite a home. It was -21 degrees celsius last night so winter has really begun. At age 95, I can no longer be out in such weather but my late wife was Canadian (I'm a Brit although a proud Canadian now) and we used to love to use snowshoes to walk in the deep snow you showed us. Our dog used to wisely follow in the compacted snow tracks we made. A moonlit snowshoe walk is an experience you'll never forget. Of course, you can't find space for everything! Thanks for this., and I hope to see you next time. John, Ontario, Canada
What makes your films really stand out from the rest of the travel videos on KZread is the balance between the sights, views etc. and the knowledge you share. Really well executed!

Home-made mulled wine in the back of your van, doesn't get any better than that.
Full-time RVers for 5 years. You need to leave the water on a slow drip when you are in freezing temps. Also, never have your holding tanks more than 3 quarters full, water needs room to expand if it freezes. It is much easier to change a cracked waterline than a cracked water tank. Mike and Peggy from Arizona. Cruzin the Cut sent us. God bless and stay safe
Went to Czech Republic couple years ago and like you say, is so underrated and has alot more then people think. Was bloody gorgeous during summer but after watching this i want to go back in the Winter and well done to Jits. she continues to impress me
This trip was magical and enchanting. Your cinematography takes my breath away. Thank you for the joy of this lovely voyage.

This means so much to hear! The winter wonderland hike really did feel like magic, and so to hear you describe our film as enchanting, means that we managed to share the overall essence of our trip 🙌🏼💛 Thank you very much for watching! Xx Tania
Beautiful video and what a pleasant change to the usual, where we watch vloggers stuffing their faces in restaurants in various parts of the world. Well done.
HD drones have added so much to videography and are accessible for us normals. Great to watch and beautifully edited.
I'm a new visitor from Cruising The Cut's latest video. He really pumped you up that I thought I made the wrong choice for a jumping in point. Love the narration with history and the classical music. Now, I'll pick one of your most popular videos to watch...
The glass factory was super amazing. The fact that you made your own pint glasses was pretty cool. Would love to try it one day. Have to try the beer bath. Excellent video (5 out of 5 stars) and can't wait for the next one.
Um, Beans sent me, they thought you were seasoned winterers, don't let them know you're winging it, but HOW. Blown away by Czech Republic, but how masterfully presented, a winter wonder land in every respect (not excluding other seasons) Many thanks. I'm enthralled by your story and schedule allowing .... Awl Be Back. (your narration is wonderfully expressive and compelling, intelligent, enhancing music choices too)

David is right, you guys are awesome and the sheer quality and effort of your cinematic vlogs is fantastic, many channels would have made a series out of this single vlog. Your story telling, editing, and just overall entertainment value are spot on, we are riveted. Mike & Trish.
Wrap water lines in a heating wrap. Or just drain the water line(s) before you expect a freeze, but again use energy so the fresh water doesn't freeze. There are 12v DC water heaters, to keep a tank at 5-15C(40-60F) to avoid that issue.

Canada here: leave a few small, safe candles burning. You just need to keep the temp over 0. This only works if the pipes are all interior (not running outside of the body of the van.)
I’ve no idea about campervans but in a house you’d turn the water off, open all the taps and drain the system so that there’s no water left in the pipes. You’d also leave all the taps open. Hope that helps
Love your channel! Me and my husband just bought an off-road car converting it into an exhibition truck. I’m from the Netherlands and he’s from Poland. Thanks for the inspiration specially your Slovenia and Czech Republic video rocked! Can’t wait to see more of you! X
New to your channel so this is the first one I've seen yet I saw you guys on Kingin' It I believe. To keep pipes from freezing, wrap with insulation tape and drip on below freezing nights. 🥶🌃
Wow! Your vlogs are therapeutic magic! So beautiful.

wrapping the pipes with the foam 'pool noodles' gives you a bit of safety, otherwise a little heater coil and circulation pump on a thermostat to keep water above zero and moving. We had the gas pipes freeze to jelly when we were in Dumfries, Scotland - that wasn't much fun either. The viewing towers in Czech are definitely worth it, did one in Beroun and it was a great view - winter would be amazing if the weather played along (great little walled city, Black Dog is the best burgers anywhere, and their _kids_ playground has a brown bear enclosure). Gorgeous videography, well done!
David on Cruising the Cut is our long time favorite. He suggested we take a look and you channel is fantastic. We are now subscribed and look forward to checking out all your videos. David gave your channel and 11; we agree. Thank you.
Was thx 2 the Beans I found you, altho I had already heard of your name several months ago. Love your style and positivity, very refreshing. I also like the fact of you putting in the bottom left corner place names and above all, the communcation of entrance fees etc., don't tink i've seen that elsewhere here. Will help with my planning for next year in CZ. Jits and Beans in Austria...., think this is an idea for a full length feature film!! Keep up the good work and stay safe, greetz from 🇨🇭, Steve. Oh, and yes of course I have subbed you, and look forward to the future and your the past..., coz I now have a lot of binge watching to bring me up to speed (hope I find a van tour).

Loving your work guys !!! Lovely blend of sights / facts / day to day life & fun. Excellent quality editing, and subtle music choice. My one point would be ........ a handheld gimble cam for the walking footage ( to make it smooth and watchable) 🙂

Wow guys!!! That was the MOST stunning piece of filming EVER! Thank you so much for showing us such a beautiful winter wonderland. We live in sunny Queensland,Australia and so to see those gorgeous snowy walking trails was a real treat! The beer looked great too! Go Jits!
I think this is my favourite vlog yours, amazing and the music is beautiful x Happy travels x
I think the only way to stop the pipes freezing is to empty the whole system and just use bottles until the temperature rises. Anything that suggests using electricity to heat the tank or pipes will flatten the battery very quickly. Anyway, great vid as always. Also, the thing the glass blower was making was highly suspicious looking.
I have only just started watching Beans and of course they mentioned you guys and I’m glad they did .

Great video! I would love to hear more about the practical sides of van life in all the different countries you visit, where do you camp, tips and differences between the countries.
Greetings from Poland. This is my first visit to your site. You come highly recommended by Cruising The Cut. who said that your channel is exceptional. WOW! - I'm not disappointed. Fabulous camera work especailly the drone shots. Your commentary is very informative. I've been to many of the places you visited. My favourite bit? - your hike through the forest. Reallt spectacular. I'm going to go back to the beginning of your vlogs and enjoy your wonderful films.
Thank you for giving us a dose of the rural area. Loved it. I also super enjoyed your hike.
David was spot on about your channel. Some of places my daughters traveled. Capt. Randy US Navy Virologist (Ret).
You were lucky on true winter weather. Most of the time is just mud, grey sky, fog or wind and raining and temps 0-5°C in Central Europe in the winter.
Wow, this video work is so beautiful!!! Glassblowing is brilliant to do when the weather is cold out.❄ How great that the materials for it can be found locally! We plan to glass blow in Florida but now second-guessing since it will be hot out. You two are just so adorable together! You can feel the excitement you have together in this video. New to the channel and happy to subscribe! We just hit our first 1k and have so much to learn from you two. 😊
I came to your channel based on a recommendation from Dave’s “Cruising the cut” channel. He was right - your videos are beautiful - great job!

Look forward to following you in your future travels. PS loved your Ireland & Scotland trips and the video of following Adam's mom's travels. Thank you.

Wow I´m from Prague and now feel a bit ashamed for never actually exploring the Czech Republic outside of it! You guys really did make me fall in love with my own country :) Hitting the subscribe button right away!
Hi, great vid 👍🙏 With regards to the frozen pipes, I appreciate it would be tricky leaving heating on all the time so not sure how you go about stoping the freezing. However, you could research a using a Floe device. We have one in our static caravan and it is used in winter to pump all water out of the system when you leave the van for periods. You then don’t have to worry about freezing temperatures. I believe they have a portable version too for tourers and campers. It would take you less than 5 mins to clear your water system before you leave the van for long periods. Really easy to use and install, good luck with the rest of your travels 👍
🤩👍🏻 everything was amazing!

Thank you very much for this video, guys. I´m from Prague and I´m so happy you showed some other places of our country, because it is just shame to see only Prague (even though I love it so much). The video is stunning and it made me feel to explore my own backyard more again :D. By the way walking through rainy covid Prague is actually the best time, because it is very crowded otherwise and to see Charles bridge you have to come there like at 8 am. :) Happy Holidays (and travels) and looking forward to your next videos! I went to Prague in 1996 on a work trip.we stayed in a fancy hotel and when my boss said he was a vegetarian they gave him a chicken dish. They seemed quite baffled as to why this wasn’t vegetarian. Glad to hear things have changed. Very enjoyable video.
Concerning the water pipes I'd propbably close the water tanks with a valve and blead the system from the lower point leaving water only in the tanks.
Loving the New Devon Army sticker on the rear of Jits. Greetings from Sidmouth Devon.
As you're almost next door to my place, let me recommend you Krakow in Poland and Wieliczka Salt Mine, plus Zakopane of course. You'll love these places for sure. Consider running into Poland please on your way back from Austria maybe. Cheers!
Such a great video. Your videos are of the highest quality. Loved this so much!
Enjoyed it, a lot. Waiting for the next part. BTW, I have adhesive heating pads that stick on the liquid tanks and on the elbows of pipes that keep the system frost free. They are connected to a thermostat and work on 12V. They get activated once the water temperature is below your set temperature. They key is to heat the tanks from the lowest point possible (meaning stick it to the bottom of the tank) and heat a couple of elbows on the main line. Rest (probably) won't freeze once these are heated. I'll send you guys a link on Instagram once I remember the brand I'm using :)

The music during your wine mulling sounded like Rick Steve’s Europe. 😂👌🏼👍🏼
I have so enjoyed watching you travels in Jits and I must say your narration is outstanding and amazing. I have so enjoyed watching this segment of your travels in the Czech Republic. F*ck yeah guys :D :D Can't wait for the Austria video, it is an amazing country! Great choice!
Keep the temperature above freezing, which does require the heater to be running. Prevents freezing your water pipes and damage. Also if your waste water tank is underneath add some antifreeze in it or it will freeze as well. Also lithium batteries wont charge below 0c, most are commonly set to 5c. Batteries are a huge mass to warmup so it will take hours before they allow charge. A 2 hour drive is not enough so youre eventually end with empty batteries. Keeping the van above freeze will charge when driving, also on a shorter trip
Thank you for that lovely tour . Beautiful country

One of the most environmentally friendly heating options is the mobile home heating with electricity. Because: As the only motorhome heater, the motorhome heater with electricity is completely emission-free and does not produce any CO2. From our point of view, a clear advantage. And actually almost reason enough to recommend a mobile home heater with electricity, even if electricity is usually more expensive than gas or petrol / diesel. However, suitable electric heaters only run on 230 volts shore power and are not exactly economical. Even if you have integrated a suitable inverter in your motorhome, the amount of energy required would be too large to be operated by your utility batteries for a long time. Therefore, electric heating for your motorhome is only the right choice if you are permanently standing on campsites where you can connect your camper to the power supply. The mobile home heating with electricity does not need a long start-up time, but immediately provides the desired heat. To take full advantage of this, you should install an electric heater with a fan. In this way, the generated heat is distributed in the room as quickly as possible.
Absolutely beautiful! I always look forward to your videos!
