I changed to spare tyre on the bonnet. Also changed the bonnet prop to the solid type. Not worth the risk of a accident with how cheaply you can get a solid prop.

Some stoonad, probably got careless in the rain and took out a utility pole. At least that’s what happens down here. It was smart to put another prop on the bonnet. It’s too easy to hit that joint in the factory, bonnet prop and have the whole thing come down on your head. But that would never happen to me uh-uh no way.

Hi mike, I’ve never had to remove the injector pipes to replace the lift pump on my 300Tdi. Just thought it’s adding another step in the process. The lift pump will come away from the block easily. Also did you have the crank at Tdc? Helps when attaching the pump to the block as the cam lobe is at its lowest point so there is minimal pressure on the lift pump arm.

  • @BritannicaRestorations

Why chew on trying to get the pump out with the pipes on? Only takes a few minutes to remove the pipes.

Mike, can you explain the roles of the lift pump and injector pump and why was it running with a broken lift pump?

Interesting, it looks like the pump arm that the cam lobe pushes on is bent up compared to the two Delpi pumps i just looked at. Hope the cam lobe is ok.

Well that had my blue Peter vibes going.. replace blue hylomar for sellotape and add a dog and I'd be 40 years back in time...😂 Even the'here's one i made earlier pump replacement... On a serious note, why not have jp machine some flat lids to close the hole that the pump goes in and mount a simple electric liftpump there? Het rid of that pita mechanical thing? Any thoughts on that route?

It's a lovely feeling when you are 90% sure you know what it is but there is that 10% nagging doubt, and then you find the 10%, in this case, the pin that has come out. Good diag Mike, I hope it didn't hold you up too long but the man is going to be so happy every time he turns the key now, knowing it will just fire up straight away. It would be interesting to find out if it was low on power and has the power now returned?

IF I can get a few moments free I will take it for a run, but as always, it is - 'when you are at it can, you change the oil and find out why the headlamp is not working…' Sorry, I do not change oil now - the local garage can do that (or do it yourself) and I had a look at the headlamp - wiring is a mess - blown fuses and bad connections. I don't need this

@@BritannicaRestorations You don't need it Mike. You have worked a manual job all your life. Start to look after yourself and just go for the high end work that pays the most money for the considerable knowledge that you have amassed. At the moment, the gearboxes seem the best option in your area. To be honest, rebuilding gearboxes is a forgotten art. In the normal car world they just chuck a new one in or a breakers yard box. The high shipping costs are making your services look cheap!
