I could kiss you! I’ve spent literally several years fighting my fireplace with what I thought were the standard practices. Yet it was always a battle and so frustrating. Discovered this video two days ago and have done two fires and it is life changing. Very low maintenance and now I can actually enjoy the fire with my family instead of spending an hour desperately scrambling trying to keep it going. Thank you!!!

Excellent video, and very clever. I'm having an issue with the fireplace smoking and this method appears to better direct the smoke up the flue.

This was an excellent tutorial! I recently moved into a home with a fireplace and have be learning how to use it. I was doing the bottom up method but my wood was burning too fast. I’ll be using the top down method moving forward. Thanks so much💕

while you obviously don't need help, i've noticed it easier to tear the end of the newspaper so its got more surface area when starting the draft. You want a big push of hot air to get the draft going.

I lived in CT for my entire life, and I have to say that I never heard of Pomfret until today lol. I had to look it up . You're never going to light your fire any other way whether it's your stove, fireplace, or fire pit, the Top Down Method is king. Thank you for viewing Robert!!!

That all depends on you and how long you need it to burn. You're gonna have to continue to feed your fireplace with wood. Once you do it a few times, you are gonna know how to time it and feed it. And if you buy those bundles of wood for the stores, buy you a chord of wood from Facebook Market and let it season for next winter. You will save a shit load of money in the long run.

I'm from CT and I could tell you were too when I said to myself "This guy's accent doesn't sound weird. Must be a local." Thanks again for teaching. There's a lot of old 1800's stuff around CT. Not so much singing...too darn cold for that.

If you are referring to the ashes, nah. Just shovel it out. However, it's good to keep some ash on the bottom. My fireplace is ashy as hell, but i got this magnetic cover that hides the ashyness and keeps the draft out. I use this method when i need the fire to burn for hours without adding wood to it.

pretty wet wood on bottom? should not smoke that much
