I love the idea and good-looking poultry houses, but I'm not sure about putting layers and broilers in that close proximity. Usually such is done on separate farms to reduce disease transmission to broilers which are easily prone to disease.

Cages are designed to allow for free movement of the hens' heads. However, in cases of accident, maybe there is a defect on a part of the cage or an automatic feeder moves across the line of the cage, the pen attendant can hear the struggle of the chicken and intervene to rescue if not too late. I have seen few accidents like that over the year, but usually, they can be avoided.

So extremely sad and disappointing in this day and age to still see that people have no problem in keeping animals in narrow cages. Of course, the chickens are stressed no matter what you say, they are couped up in tiny cages. Try free range, your plot of land most definitely is big enough. We people have to learn that even though we want to make money, there should be a limit to what we are willing to do to achieve it 💔

I see you have only 3 tier cages , why did you not choose a cage with 4 tiers , ( more birds , higher cages ) I’m just wanting to formulate a rational for my farm in progress also ?

It's a matter of choice. 4-tier cages are better used in automated houses because it places a demand for taller workers, unless you want your workers climbing your cages. It is also important that your chicken house is very high so the chickens in the uppermost tier will not be subjected to too much heat from the roof

@Chinomso Onyenekwe no, raising them with their happiness in mind even if slaughtering is the outcome is far better. It's not misplaced emotion it's having empathy for the suffering of a creature. Short suffering at death is one thing, a lifetime of misery is something else. If you cause this I am sorry for you as well as the chickens.

Broiler chicken and layer chicken in 1 compound. .that is not good idea..

Cages are inhumane. Developed countries are moving away from cages to free range, pasture raised
