I have worked in the horticultural industry for around twenty five years including in plant nurseries and garden centres where I bought the houseplants in from suppliers in Holland etc. I just wanted to say that I really admire you for setting up on your own and I appreciate you sharing your experience.

I think this is one of your best vlogs. Wife and I now have a very successful online store, even though we still have our day jobs. I listened to this as I cycled today and I laughed and smiled all the way through as we've been there, done that God gone through and we're still here.
Thanks for all the great info!! You were a joy to listen to!
This is honestly the best video I've seen about the process of opening and running a small plant shop (or ANY shop)! Thank you SO much for sharing your experience. You really covered everything! 💚

Thank you for your honesty!
Really enjoyed the long chat and all your tangents! About half of people learn best in a kind of roundabout way or through seeing other people so it, so don't worry. The right people will get you and understand you completely :) I've always had plants, like trailing ivy everywhere as a teen -- but now that I'm in my first own apartment, I brought lots of tropical houseplants in and of course now I need to deal with pests! So I'm learning all I can to care for the plants in the best way. I found you through your thrips video yesterday... Yes I finally know the name of the little bugs on half of my plants, uh oh that sounds like a challenge... But we conquered the gnats too so we've got this :) Sorry, now I'm rambling too -- really I just wanted to thank you for your videos and letting us in on your life like this! ❤️

Thank you so much for that lovely comment! Thrips can be such a pain, but I really hope you manage to get them under control soon 💚
You are being so thorough!
Just came across your video. Brilliant! You are so beautiful inside and out. I haven’t yet opened a plant shop but like you I had/have so many ambitious ideas. Answering all those questions came at the proper time for me. Loads to think about. Thank you so much! I paused the video and popped over to your Instagram page. Beautiful as well. I am now subscribed on KZread and following on Instagram. You helped me feel so much better when you said that you’ve dealt with times where your heart just was not into plant care for the moment. A bit of burnout. But when you push through you find the joy in it all over again. I get that. I’m looking forward to catching up on all your videos and seeing your plant shop reopen. I took a long way around to say thank you 😊 Thank you! 🌱

Thank you for such a lovely comment Tina, that's so sweet of you to say! Yes I still very much have days (sometimes even weeks) of slight burnout, but I know it's totally normal. Good luck pursuing your plant shop, I really hope it all goes well for you 💚
Very helpful. I’m getting into selling aquatic plants, but this info and your experience can be used for building any small business. Thank you.
I am a new subscriber. Really enjoying your videos. Thanks!
If u plan to restart a plant shop, I recommend u sell flowers or plants that you can eat. Lately, a lot of people have been buying fruit and vegetable plant seeds. With price inflation, food is more expensive so people have decided to grow their own food and canning it. You’d probably make more money if you just sold the seeds actually. Idk what’s happening in the uk, but in America the inflation keeps getting bigger and bill gates owns the most farmland in the world
This was an amazing video I been wanting to do the same as far as opening up an online shop for plants and invertebrates thank you for sharing your experience with this ❤

There's no reason you couldn't start with cuttings and work up to larger plants over time once you have more space... I think I'd definitely do this if I were to start again and find a balance with it all before diving in headfirst 😂

@@TheJungleHaven yeah I do this a little now just need build up with more plants 😁
Ive wanted a little bit of extra pocket money so very recently actually ive been gearing up on my setup. I bought a sturdy 5 tier shelf, some shop lights, ive taken so so many propogations. Im just gonna be a basic aroid Etsy shop eventually branching out into more fun things. I took up a side job just so i could splurge on rare plants recently. I got a second Monstera Albo cutting with a high variegation, and three types of monstera Adansonii; Indonesian Mint, Aurea, and Albo cuttings. Im gonna use every trick in the book to grow these out A.S.A.P and eventually start selling some cuttings of my own.

I've decided to sell a certain plant I've fell in love with and went overboard with buying seeds of a large variety. Lol. I was in the process few months ago of opening up a shop on etsy for other stuff and I won't even need to redo the banner as I used giant flowers I the branding lol. I'm pretty excited to do it all. I'm gonna have to make a greenhouse by next winter tho haha. Gonna have so many beautiful plants that I'm sure my boyfriend would not like them taking up the whole house when he has so many as well haha
you seemed to really like these "industrial humidifiers", do you mind sharing with me which one it is? Also thank you so much watched this whole thing and really quite insightful, thank you!!
Just an afterthought about not being able to claim for perishables. Could you not offer the plants for say £30 as a plant plus pot package to the customer. Then break the cost down as £1 for the plant and £29 for the pot (not sold seperately). Package is then insured for £29 and if anything happens to the plant then you aren't loosing so much money?
Hi! Love your channel. I’ve learned so much. This is probably a stupid question, but why do you plant to one side of the pot? I was taught to plant in the center, so I’m just want to know why I’m changing to your way which I’m sure I’d better lol 😉☺️
would love for you to open again really enjoy your channel :)

Hi there! Thank you so much for this video and for sharing your knowledge and experiences with us
I have started my business last year by propagating and investing in some plants. I'm glad your business is doing well. The best thing to consider is to schedule your time for the plant business. It can be overwhelming. Maybe you need some help. Cheers. Thank you.,

How on earth are you dealing with plant passports and certifications? I’ve speeded up the video to go through it quickly to get to that point but she seems to not talk about that. Pls help me how you can deal with that if you want to sell plants as a side hussle. In my country it doesn’t seem affordable
How do you arrange private sales? (Intrigued by the variegated deliciosa 🤩)

How was the plant passporting process? Looking into things and sound like a total headache and could turn out expensive, what was your experience? X
@TheJungleHaven
2 жыл бұрын
I don't know exactly how things have changed since I was trading, but I never had an issue. My suppliers tended to deal with that directly in conversation with the growers and then I'd just receive the plants. I think it depends on who you use/whether you go straight to the source 💚
Very insightful video! How did you become partnered with One Tree Planted? I think that’s SO amazing !!
@TheJungleHaven
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! OTP are such a fab organisation and you can just contact them to become partnered with them. Once you're partnered you pay $1 for every sale you make (if that's the way you choose to do it) and each one pays to plant a tree somewhere around the world!
how much money did it take to start?
I have a lot of propagations from the monstera adanonsii. I don't want to throw them away. On facebook nobody wants to buy it, what should I do?

You may have to revise your listing or just sell at a lowered price. Throwing good plants away in the plant community is frowned upon😂
Are there any laws around what plants you can sell in U.K. and do you need any licences or insurances or anything for selling plants?
@TheJungleHaven
2 жыл бұрын
I've never dealt in endangered species of plant, but I'm pretty sure there'd be laws/regulations there if so. I know there's also certain non-native plants (particularly aquatics) that aren't legal to sell here (there's a list on the gov website). I personally never encountered any problems though and didn't need a license for anything I was selling - I did insure my business, but again I feel like if you're doing things on a relatively small scale this probably isn't 100% necessary 💚

@@TheJungleHaven thanks very much for taking the time to reply 😁🙏 yes I think I’ll just test the waters first with just the odd plant here and there and see where it leads.
How did you afford selling plants if they need to get certified and tested before you can sell them? I can’t imagine selling plants as a side hustle because here it’s not affordable
@TheJungleHaven
2 жыл бұрын
All of the checks were done with my suppliers before they came to me. I bought the plants in for less than I sold them for (usually fairly cheap) and just accounted for postage and packaging 💚
