watching this to figure out what i was doing wrong and it’s that i didn’t use my handmade knife that i made with a juniper handle. once i figured that out i switched knife and tried again and it worked perfectly! great video thanks 👍

I don't think there is an efficient way of using it to make the initial coal, that's what you need chaga for.

Fascinating. I've been making fire with Canadian fleabane (i.e. Horsetail or Erigeron Canadensis) spindles on northern white cedar hearthboard, but have more cattail and chage nearby. I'll give this a go! Also, I've heard chaga is an excellent coal carrier, any idea how long it would work if you had a softball size chunk for example?

Why is it a waste?
