Basic down to earth video. Not all the usual extra unnecessary BS. Great job! You just saved me a mechanic bill. After watching this I am convinced I can do this. The hardest part for me being 70 years old is getting down on the ground and working under the car. But if I get the car jacked up high enough and secure I think I can pull it off. Thanks!

Super video, I might be doing this on a friends 99 Pathfinder in a few days. I thought you did an excellent job of showing how it's done. Note a 14mm (edited) is the same as a 9/16" socket if you didn't know. Also a cheap stubby ratchet or a ratchet wrench works wonders in those tight spaces, you can also use a long extension and go over the top the 4wd axle. Thanks for the video loved it. Good camera work for tight spaces

Like others have said, this is a great video and I'm very appreciative! A quick look at the forums had me thinking this was going to be a massive pain with people saying they refused to attempt it and others saying it would take all day. I watched this video and knocked out the job in less than an hour with minimal difficulty. Hardest part was getting the power cable nut threaded back on, but a ratcheting wrench made life quite a bit easier there.

There is no better way to do this. Your video is perfect. 10 plus

Thanks excellent job. I changed mine out about 4 years ago and I wish there was a video like this at that time. My starter went out again today so I'm going to replace it tomorrow with this video as a guide.

Also, this kind of job si why I paid $150 for the milwaulkee m12 FUEL ratchet. It usually has enough juice to break nuts like this free. Buy the FUEL, not the cheaper one. I like the m12 cause I can get into smaller spaces with it's smaller battery profile.

Here an Idea, as far as removing the positive battery cable, just crack the nut loose , then go back to removing the starter and once the starter drops down then you'll have all the room to finish removing the cable same thing same thing going back in , but just finger tighten the nut on the cable in case you have to make adjustment , and once the starter is in stall go back and tighten the nut

I was thinking the same thing. Also since the new starter comes with the small harness from the solenoid why not just cut the small harness wire and then remove the plug once the starter is out of the way?

Just move the wiring harness out of the way, it's actually not that bad, but the wires above the starter hang down and don't allow enough room to get the starter in@@ronlind1757

Best video I've seen for a r50 starter. what starter brand you using? Don't know if I should go Ac Delco or Denso? definitely don't want to do it twice

Nice video, thank you. Some other tuber pretends to show how to remove the starter by taking out the two main bolts and then says "then there's some other stuff" lol. Chicken shit cop-out.

curious what symptoms were you having that made you replace the starter? my car is intermittently not cranking (just makes 1 single click when turning the key). replaced the HP solenoid and my problems went away for a few days and it happened again this morning but only once and then it cranked and started up just fine after turning the key once more.

Two symptoms would happen for me: starter would free spin (it would not engage with the ring gear and you could hear it quietly spinning) or the starter would grind on the ring gear when starting. Root cause was a coolant leak (likely from the coolant crossover pipe) soaking the starter.

I have the same exact symptom and have replaced a couple of solenoids, etc. - Your problem WILL get worse. For me, the problem still persists and is random. In the past when it occurred, it would only take a few seconds to a minute or so with a few tries of the key. Sometimes when it was being belligerent, hand cranking the front pully bolt to get the motor off the compression helped. A couple of days ago, this sucker left be stranded for an hour before it finally started. Pretty sure with worn fuel injectors leaking and slightly hydrolocking an already high compression motor wears a spot on the starter's brushes that randomly comes to a stop at the start point. I'm going to replace the starter and will report what I find. May also tear apart the starter to see if the problem is obvious.

Thanks for this tutorial. I found the space was so tight that I had to also remove the nut off negative terminal as well. I could not remove the old one or install the new one without doing this and I literally spent an hour trying to twist it into place. Once I removed that nut it slipped right in.

Just got this car for 400$ and my dumb ahh 18 years old can’t fix it 💀
