I remember it almost vividly; it was 2014, MK8 just dropped, one day after I got back from school, my mom had the game in her hands, and as we got to my room and booted the game up, I knew that I was gonna have the time of my life.

Matthew Solar Kenta Nagata was the sound director, but he had little to do with this soundtrack in terms of actual compositions. Also, he isn’t this “new guy” that showed up out of nowhere, he’s been around since the Nintendo 64 days, providing all the music to Mario Kart 64 and was sound director and main composer to Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. He did arrange a few of the DLC tunes like Big Blue, GCN Baby Park, and GBA Ribbon Road, but the original compositions were handled largely by Shiho Fujii and Atsuko Asahi, with Ryo Nagamatsu and Yasuaki Iwata mostly handling the arrangements of old tunes. In terms of the music in THIS video, it was handled by Atsuko Asahi.

@@LeotheTiger1234 Hmm, why? I think the melody is B♭ B♭ C B♭ A F / C E♭ D C D E♭. There's a small transition to E♭ then F# in between the phrases, but I can't hear the main melody as E♭.

@@jchi I think E-flat is the I chord of that section. This song modulates all the time, so perhaps that's what's causing the confusion. I happen to have perfect pitch, so I am confident about this. It's not worth having an argument over, though. Music is music, and we're here to enjoy it for what it is worth.

My pitch lets me immediately recognise what notes are, but I have trouble with key signatures (don’t know very much theory), so these discussions are helpful for me. I can hear the E♭now; it becomes obvious listening to the baseline ( C F B♭ E♭) and associated chords - my misunderstanding came from focusing on the melody. I agree with enjoying the music; I just wanted to hear your perspective to help me understand better :)

Mariokart 8, Wii, Mariokart Double Dash, and 7 have great title themes the others do to but i like these better

Part of what makes this so catchy to listen to and remember for me is that the section after the intro is call-and-response, but the response is sweet guitar solos with something new every time. I also love the background piano in this part, especially as the first and third little solo parts are ending (e.g. 0:12).
