Music By: Kevin Macleod (Stomp Dance, Movement Proposition, Chipper Doodle) incompetech.com/
Project Inspired By:
A co-worker mentioning her boyfriend once burned a hole in a pice of paper with a water bottle. On that idea, I practiced until I could prove it worked, and then until I felt like I'd mastered the technique.
Project History & More Info:
Computer paper with black ink is the tinder of choice for practicing this technique because anyone should have access to it, and it's fairly consistent and reliable.
The bottle needs to be filled with water, and ideally should have no air bubbles inside. By turning the bottle upside down and using the rounded convex part at the top, we can use a water bottle as a make-shift magnifying lens.
The curved water refracts the sunlight, and give the ability to focus it. The closer the rounded lens is to resembling a liquid sphere, the better it will work. If bubbled are trapped in the bottle, they will distort the sunlight and weaken the intensity of the beam.
This technique isn't easy, and takes a lot of practice to master, so don't wait until you're in a survival situation to try it.

    So remember, if you're a psychiatrist out for a walk with a briefcase full of ink blot tests and a bottle of water and you get lost in the woods and you're cold and the sun is still high enough, you might be able to start a fire before bedding down for the night, after which you could find your way back to the office and call for help.

    Dried out grass or moss is better, you have to put a tiny dark stone (like 2mm in diameter) in a pile of it and heat it up until it gets the grass to smoke.

    Also works with glasses, even easier with a drop of water on the lense. Particularly useful if you happen to have a water bottle with with you, but it's not transparent. @ people wondering what if you don't have paper with you, well obviously dry grass and leaves work aswell. Black paper just happens to be much easier option. :D

    ... and if you're in nature, you might start it with some dry leaves ;) Americans might carry black paper with them, but the rest of us don't.

    These instructions are just so typically american, that makes you giggle ... No harm meant, just looks a little silly (illogical) to give advice on how to survive in 'wild nature' by suggesting you should carry black paper with you while not even mentioning the natural ingredient (which would be dry leaves, for example).

    TheTina888 Okay? Still, my question stands. What do Americans have to do with ANYTHING!?!!? Why do people bring Americans into everything?

  • @thetina8889

    @thetina8889

    10 жыл бұрын

    SKATER29334 I can't answer you for 'people' and I just did for myself. I don't bring them into everything, just when they do the a typical 'thing'. As I would bring the polish or italians or whomever. Maybe they are just extremely typical with their behaviours. That could be it - there is your answer. But if you are an american, you probably can not see it from this angle, and if you're not, you would know what I mean by now ... :-)

    All the people in the comments below who tell themselves they don't even have 3 sheets of paper in their glove box? - Really? And if you go camping or something without water bottles you're dead anyway. That being said I have tried it quote a few times and only get the back side of the paper to turn black, but I suppose that's why people need to practice, to get better.

    so it's the same as lighting it with a magnifying glass, just using a water bottle instead. not much more complicated also, it will work with anything flammable, it will just take longer depending on the material. use the same rules as you would for fire starting for a camp fire, as you can manage with tinder, but not as easily with entire logs (you might manage, but it would take a few hours of perfect focus)
