    If the Standard Starlink is akin to Fixed Wireless, would this Mini be more like a portable hotspot? Such as will it have a built-in battery or must it be plugged in to external power? And if so, how much is the Mini going to draw? Will it be USB-C, DC, or AC? Could users make-do using a high-capacity battery bank or would a larger Power Station, possibly with PV panels, be required?

    If all you need is a dish, what's the difference between the roaming and residential services? What prevents me from taking my "residential" dish to wherever I want?...

  • @island97

    @island97

    14 күн бұрын

    You can move the dish to a new location ( change in resident) but you'll have to chance the service address on your account. The roaming option allows you to use the dish in motion . Eg on an RV

    @@island97 Thanks, I see... so, they're intentionally locking the residential version to an address, to be able to charge more for the roaming service. Otherwise, there shouldn't be a limitation to use my dish anywhere...

    @@imaginative-monkey the roaming dish has a different design as well. Of course roaming will cost more , bc its a higher cost of operation for the service. Just like roaming fees are higher for cellphones.

    This is just speculation but It may have a real cost to them for roaming, because they have to plan the density of their satellite coverage, and if users are roaming, it’s less predictable and therefore less efficient.

    Do you even know how much more satellite alternatives are? For a much worse performance? With data caps? Starlink has unlimited data, way higher speeds and way lower latency. Instead of criticizing everything Elon Musk makes you should be grateful that the USA still has people like him, pushing it forward.
