Well I guess it depends on what you have for mounting, there are quite a few types of mounts out their to use, and that can be fabricated. If you have any problems installing these mounts then call someone who can do it for you as there is a myriad of problems that can go wrong if you don't do it right. Most of your regional satellite installers will be able to perform these tasks quite easily and give you peace of mind that it was done right.

@@AllMediaServices1 you're not understanding what the original comment is telling you. He is saying that the stand is NOT for use in mounting on a roof. It would be for standalone use on the ground. Like you mentioned there are several mounts (even custom fabricated ones) that you should use to mount on a roof. But this video is not good because your telling the public it is okay to use that base to mount on a roofline. Which is false.

  • @AllMediaServices1

@@alexayache8556 thank you for your comment. Your partially right and I agree that the mount Starlink comes with is not ideal for roof mounting and does require extra work to make sure it’s mounted correctly without damaging the roof top, hence the video. But more to the point, It has worked very well for us and has been very reliable. You can spend more money and get a mount that is designed for roof mounting, and I would say if you have the money then do it. If you’re on a budget and want to use what you have then this works well. We’ve looked over the Starlink installation instructions and haven’t seen anything saying it’s “not” to be mounted on the roof. They just offer varying mount options for purchase. If you have this literature from Starlink then please share. What it does say is that if your uncomfortable mounting then call a professional contractor to get it done. I’ve mounted a lot of dishes over the years, and this mount passes all the checks needed. It’s rigid, sealed, and causes minimal disruption to the roof top. It might not look the prettiest(arguable) but it works very well. So when we end up on a site that a customer has the system and they want it up and running that day, then this is just one of many solutions for mounting. Thanks again for taking the time to communicate your concern. I hope we’ve addressed some of it for you.

Interesting that you would mount the ground-tripod-stand to a roof. I believe that stand was really designed to go on the ground for initial testing, or for use for folks who may need to move the dish, hence the sort of pointy feet to dig into the ground a but. The holes in the feet were for temporary staking down on the ground. There are/were roof and wall mounts designed for roof mounting the round dish. Currently, there also different options for mounting the rectangular dish to a roof, a wall, or a pole.

  • @AllMediaServices1

    2 жыл бұрын

Hi Kimberlie thanks for watching. When using the starlink app, and checking for obstructions, you want to aim your camera up (wherever you plan on putting the Dishy) and it will get you to scan the edges of the view in a 360 degree rotation, once all the "dots" have been collected on your devices screen it should then tell you whether that location will be optimal for mounting. Essentially you want to have the Dishy mounted somewhere accessible that is also as clear as possible in all directions, as the system will self adjust to the low orbit satellites, and it doesn't always stay in the same position. You can also check out our "Starlink App" video for a more in depth explanation. We are happy to help if you have any more questions.

I put 2" pvc in ground for conduit and was planning on running the starlink 150' cable in it along with romex for power out to the pole for a light. Will this be OK you think? Starlink does authorize direct burial or putting in conduit.

  • @AllMediaServices1

    2 жыл бұрын

Hi Kip Nix I don’t see why this would be an issue if it’s ran through a conduit, we have done a couple 1st gens this way. My recommendation would be to have a pull string, or a way of getting the cable out in the case of a failure. This potentially allows you to pull through a new length of line without having to dig up the conduit. All generations of the Dishy cabling has a robust shielding. Cable runs like the one you described tend to last longer than outdoor exposed runs due to being out of the elements (sun, wind, etc). Just make sure when running the conduit that water is unable to flow in to either end, if the water is trapped in their and freezes it may cause a break in the line. Hope this helps!

Hello Alex, there is a lot of movement even in the factory mount when the Dishy is locked(clicked) in. I was very surprised at how much, as with your typical Satellite install even incremental movement can cause large amounts of signal loss. But due to Starlink being a self finding Satellite and a newer technology this has not been an issue. The mount we used actually has less movement then the original Starlink mount. That being said this is the 1st generation mount so the new rectangle dish might have a little less wiggle room then it's predecessor I just found out today that there going to 4 arms instead of the 3, so the mount has been redesigned. We could definitely take out some more gapping if needed and we have been on our latter installs, but my service was so good after we did the video that I really didn't think I needed to worry about it. Thank you for the comment.

Do not use silicone!!! It's a poor choice for a roof. Use a Lexel or a polyurethane gutter caulk. Silicone does not adhere anywhere near as well. Also, start those gasketed roofing screws, but don't initially cinch them down. Then remove and slip a rubber washer that has a center hole just a bit larger than the screw over the screw and under the bracket. This will seal the roofing screw. Then when the bracket cinches down, you will be providing a seal for the roof penetration. If you don't, you create a 6 spots for a leak.

With that being said, I have no problem putting the tri-pod mount in place of the Volcano, as the base is wider giving more stability for Dishy. Albeit neither the Volcano or the Tri-pod mounts have any adjustments on them, so if you have a steep roof and can't meet the 40 degree maximum from vertical (as stated on their website) your looking for another solution.

Hi Bryan, We often do custom installs that in majority of cases include mounts that we provide and/or wireless links, meshing routers, etc. So you are correct with a variance of $300-$600. If you are doing a basic install of the Starlink equipment included (no extras) $200 is a safe bet (assuming the install will take a couple of hours) if you want to do a flat rate. We have done flat rate work with the Starlink systems as well and assure the customers that the price won’t go up unless they need/request extra equipment for a good network. It’s usually easier (if you are busy enough) to offer a free site survey (in your area) and send them a quote with a breakdown of costs, labour and supplies needed. In your case it sounds like a casual side gig so I would say $200 and under is reasonable. Hope that answers your question! Let us know if you would like further clarification.

1:00 -- this is why you don't use the standard feet for a roof mount. You replace the base with a roof-mount base. Those feet are NOT designed for roof mount.

uh... I dont think those tripod mounts were intended for roof applications. You should be using the volcano mount! My gosh folks, please do NOT install your Starlink like this video shows :(

Hello Danzig, your right as far as the mount goes. Definitely consider buying the volcano mount from Starlink for roof applications. The mount it comes with is designed more for flat surface or ground mounting. That being said the tripod mount does have a larger mounting diameter then the volcano mount, and has the exact same base connection. so in theory a larger mount should also mean a more stable and secure mount. If installed properly and that is the key for any mount, it should be just fine. Are intention for the video is to help people make the best with what they have, and most of our customers that have order dishes didn't even think about getting secondary mounts for there home. So we improvised and show others how they can too.

You complain about the angle of the mount, but Maybe you should spend more time checking your spelling 😂

You’re using the ground mount to mount to the roof, not the roof mount, that’s why it didn’t look like it was designed properly, because it wasn’t designed for that spot. And you used the wrong “their”. Strike two within a minute…not very confidence inspiring.

Just a bit of humour is all. But to each “their” own ;) Check out some of our other videos and you will find we have a lot of respect for the SpaceX team, Elon Musk and what they have been able to accomplish. And that is why we have tried our best to grow our video collection with free and insider information on the Starlink system.
