I LOVE this!! All this time listening to the soundtrack I had no idea how funny it was played onstage! Ahh, the villains really are awesome in this show.

"Let's get ready to crumble" is great, but I do prefer the version where they inexplicably kiss

ANDREW RELEASE THE VILLAIN KISS CUT

In a nutshell, it's a story about a steam engine (Rusty) who enters a race against the Diesel Greaseball and the slick Electra and several international engines. His girlfriend joins up with one of the newer engines. His 'dad' another steam engine, teaches him about the Starlight Express which helps him find his strength and he has the faith to win the race.This song happens after these guys crash on the last race.

I haven't found a performance on the internet better than this one.

Drue Williams - I can recognize him under 20 Greaseball´s - he had made a great job as Greaseball in Germany.

Went to see this last night and absolutely loved it! Amazing musical :D

David Archuleta has definitely seen "Phantom" (I read it in an article). David Cook is actually took musical theater in college so he at least knows the shows. The guy with the dreads picked "Memory" simply because it was the ONLY song he knew and apparently, didn't even bother to research.

I’m a new fan of Starlight Express. I really want to see it. I know that its running in Germany, but I want to see it in my home country U.S.A. Does anyone know if there is definately going to be another revival. I thought I read an article that was released back in January that Andrew Lloyd Webber was planning on making one and adding some “female” engines to join the race as well as new songs. If this is true, I hope they are just adding and not rewriting the story. I don’t want anybody to replace Rusty cause he is my favorite and so is Greaseball.

I'm also American but I'm a huge fan of German musicals so I know about the German production (never seen it, though). I really doubt it'll ever come back to Broadway, American audiences didn't take to it, though we had a few tours over the years. My late grandfather really enjoyed this show mainly because he was a railroader and understood the train aspect. ALW actually made changes which were implemented in the German production along with new costumes (for example, Pearl is COMPLETELY white now, no pink and they gave her a tiara that's not rhinestones, but looks like part of a train). Some that I remember off the top of my head are Poppa is now Momma (currently played by Broadway's Pearl Reva Rice), Ashley the smoking car has been replaced by Carrie the Luggage Car and the French train is now a female train and her name is Coco (and she looks pretty badass). As far as I've seen, Rusty and Greaseball are the same. I'm currently in a regional production in Pennsylvania playing the title role. Our script is the 2012 UK script (first time the theatre did it a few years ago, they got a different version, though) so no changes are in it. However, one minor change the production I'm in is doing is we're using heelys instead of roller skates. They'd NEVER do that in a professional production but the people skating love it, I get to stand and sing and I'm okay with that lol The theatre I'm doing the show with REALLY likes this show, mainly because no one is brave enough to perform it except them, and it's their second time doing a production of it, though first with young adults because the first time they did it with an all children cast and those kids ADORE the show now.

OMG how old is this video? I saw Drue Williams play Greaseball in 86 AND 91!

I bought an electric blue catsuit, red kneepads and red legwarmers from various dance stores, I found red+blue quad skates and red bike gloves on eBay. I'm in the process of re-doing this costume (shoulder stuff, front panel, adding the sequined circuit-board look) at the moment but it'll be ongoing for a while because I'm busy. I'll see if I can dig out a pic of how it used to look.

No, he didn't. I believe you're confusing him with Jason who said he had no idea that a cat sang "Memory". He picked it it because it's only song he knew and has heard of because there are so many pop covers of it. "Think of Me" didn't have any pop covers. The only way he could've heard or known the song is if he watched the stage show/movie or listened to the score. I watched the clip, there's no indication that Archuleta didn't know that it was originally sang by a woman.

No, he didn't "ruin" it. He sang it differently. I'm SURE he knew a woman sang it originally. That's why he sang it differently with a different arrangement. Hell, I think it's an even BETTER, more emotional song than that bland soprano Sarah Brightman version.
