    I saw the Starland Vocal Band and John Denver in concert at the Capital Center in 1976. I was 14 years old at the time. It was amazing - an experience I will never forget.

    Takes me right to the summer of 76. I moved with my family to the Bay area. I was 7. We explored new places, behind our house etc. It was one of my best moments then. It was heard a lot on the radio then.

    How did they hold those incredibly tight harmonies without ear pieces? Even one of the Bee Gees had to at least block one ear to maintain form. Amazing vocalists!!

    I was just in my first year in High School when this song came out in 1976... I remember the same buggy and bell-bottom pants I wore, the same hairstyle, and my first love... nothing compares to the melodies of yesteryears... love this song...

    To get technical with you, you already graduated when this song became popular in the summer of 1976. It was my Class of '77 that was prepping for our senior year that could say it was a popular song for the class that September.

    I'm from a non english speaking background. I love the harmony of this song but I didn't know what the song was about... until he few years ago ! A British female I was chatting with online asked me what I had been up to that afternoon. I innocently replied : "I enjoyed an afternoon delight with a friend" I meant enjoy the beach and a swim in the ocean with my friend. The British female then wrote back: "That's disgusting, I'm not into that, goodbye" Haha 😂😂😂

    I was 3...i sont remember this song .however spirit of 76' i do remember driving into Dallas from Frisco to buy a swing set that was red white and blue with a spirit of 76' theme. Had that swing set into the mid 80s

    Although "Afternoon Delight" reached # 1 in Billboard's Hot 100, Starland Vocal Band became a one-hit-wonder; Later discs failed to make the Top 40. Starland Vocal Band was made up of rwo married couples. The band broke up in the eary 1980's when both couples divorced.

    Girl at camp dedicated this song to me , when i was 14yo . i thought she wanted to watch fireworks ?? she laughed and laughed , and said " NO silly i wana MAKE fire works , with you .. i though WOW cool , another pyro.. like me !!! later on that evening , she clarified , apparently that's NOT what she had in mind .. I learned a lot that night .

    @@tommytwomommy They added a flute part to the chorus after they sing the words AFTERNOON DELIGHT. Maybe that is what you are hearing that is different. I have heard them singing this song live many times (no lip syncing) and they sound absolutely amazing, most recently in a video from 2007. So, I'm not sure why this particular performance is done to the original track.
