Have loved this song from the first time that I heard it way back in '76. And I still to this day absolutely luv hearing this great tune. 👍

Massively underrated song. Incredible harmonies. Reminds me of the Bee-Gees.

Married in 1968...this was one of my husbands favorite songs. He's gone now and playing it makes good memories of a wonderful man❤

Man! 47 years ago. Still a great song taking me back to a more wistful, romantic and hopeful time.

I saw the Starland Vocal Band and John Denver in concert at the Capital Center in 1976. I was 14 years old at the time. It was amazing - an experience I will never forget.

What a group and pure musical talents! Margot is a beast....

Yes, Margot Chapman was outstanding!

Takes me right to the summer of 76. I moved with my family to the Bay area. I was 7. We explored new places, behind our house etc. It was one of my best moments then. It was heard a lot on the radio then.

I loved this song when i was 12 in 76 and i still do, and I'll always love John Denver xx

How did they hold those incredibly tight harmonies without ear pieces? Even one of the Bee Gees had to at least block one ear to maintain form. Amazing vocalists!!

I was 11 in 76 ,my dad give me a little transistor radio and this tune was always playing.. I like the 12 string..thanks

Bill Danoff and Taffy Danoff nee Nivert, wrote "Take Me Home Country Roads" and "I Guess He'd Rather Be in Colorado" for John Denver.

8th grade summer when I met my husband it was his song to me ❤

At 2:09 the two girls sing that part alone, in that register, for the one and only time. I always used to wish they did it again but I now see the genius of that arrangement.

On Denver's "Country Roads", that was Taffy singing soprano. She hit an astounding note in the chorus.

I know it's hokey, but it brings me such joy! On every level.

To get technical with you, you already graduated when this song became popular in the summer of 1976. It was my Class of '77 that was prepping for our senior year that could say it was a popular song for the class that September.

Not a big fan of this particular song, but man oh man, did they write two of my favorite songs - "Country Roads" and "I Guess He'd Rather Be In Colorado".... Masterpieces!!!

I'm from a non english speaking background. I love the harmony of this song but I didn't know what the song was about... until he few years ago ! A British female I was chatting with online asked me what I had been up to that afternoon. I innocently replied : "I enjoyed an afternoon delight with a friend" I meant enjoy the beach and a swim in the ocean with my friend. The British female then wrote back: "That's disgusting, I'm not into that, goodbye" Haha 😂😂😂

It was a HUGE #1 HIT!! They were nominated for four Grammy Awards in 1977 and won two: Best Arrangement for Voices and Best New Artist, the latter award over the group Boston.[4] The song was also in several films.

A classic summer song with the gorgeous harmonies letting the listener float along. I never understood why a Rolling Stone poll voted this the 2nd worse song of the Seventies.Maybe if the Mamas and Pappas had done it 10 years before it would have been received differently..

Although "Afternoon Delight" reached # 1 in Billboard's Hot 100, Starland Vocal Band became a one-hit-wonder; Later discs failed to make the Top 40. Starland Vocal Band was made up of rwo married couples. The band broke up in the eary 1980's when both couples divorced.

Margot's voice is a little too hot in the mix, probably because she was closer to her mic than the rest. Mix engineer should have caught it. Still nice harmonies, though

Girl at camp dedicated this song to me , when i was 14yo . i thought she wanted to watch fireworks ?? she laughed and laughed , and said " NO silly i wana MAKE fire works , with you .. i though WOW cool , another pyro.. like me !!! later on that evening , she clarified , apparently that's NOT what she had in mind .. I learned a lot that night .

@@tommytwomommy They added a flute part to the chorus after they sing the words AFTERNOON DELIGHT. Maybe that is what you are hearing that is different. I have heard them singing this song live many times (no lip syncing) and they sound absolutely amazing, most recently in a video from 2007. So, I'm not sure why this particular performance is done to the original track.

I just played it side by side with the original and it's actually slightly slower. After awhile this one lags behind.
