Stargate Universe: Cloverdale Organism | Explained

Ойын-сауық

The Cloverdale organism is a massive, highly aggressive and virulent plant-like entity first encountered by the Destiny expedition while exploring depths of the unnamed forest planet in the second galaxy, an organism which seemingly belongs to an entirely novel kingdom of life.

    It is quite possible that much of the other life on this planet are immune to the organism. It is also possible that they are on a different continent that is inaccessible. A large desert with extremely high or low temperatures on one side, a very high mountain rage on one side, or a massive saline ocean or lake could be blocking the spread of the spores. It is also possible that the plant is seasonal. The vines and flowers die off in the winter, but is comes back to life in the summer.

    Isn't it possible that the organism is some form of bio-engineered ultimate weapon? And as Chloe's blood gives her an immunity, it could be possible that this is something engineered by The Nakai.

    I think its size is the result of killing it competition. It consumed most of the animals until the Destiny crew arrived. It has survived so well because it had 2 food sources.

    Perhaps the Cloverdale organism was known to the Nakai. Something they had encountered before and wanted to alter their DNA to become immune to its effects.

    The Cloverdale organism is a lot like mushrooms with the actual body of the organism below ground which is called the mycelium. I love this episode. Probably one of my favorite SGU episodes. The writing, the style, and the direction of the episode is top notch. Showing what happened with Lt. Scott not in reality but in his dreams in 3rd person using a scene in the movie theater is a very intriguing style. Not to mention the organism itself is fascinating. There could very well be a planet out there with an organism very similar to this. It's not far fetched.

    In the episode, Rush estimates that their group has around 15 minutes before the creature advances to their position. Eli considers this and quickly calculates this to be 10 minutes. It's a very subtle moment, but it helps to show that Eli is becoming smarter than Rush.

    Have you concidered the possiblilty that it was defending itself. Chloe's bload might have been adversly affecting the plane/animal. I't might even be the last servivor of a species that was wiped out by the Nakai. It only started attacking once Chloe came into contact with the organisim.

    if it is plant or plant-animal, then it would likely be smack in the middle of it's ecosystem's food chain with just as many predators as prey. To defend itself from predators and out compete for food, it was forced to become the most lethal threat on the planet but plants cant escape the food chain and somewhere on the planet it still has several predators. The stalks rising up served to scare off herbivores from trying to eat the flowers, which would serve as reproductive organs and the center of photosynthesis if anything like flowers on earth. If this didn't deter the animal then the animal would be stung. Pursuing the stung animal shows an intent to do something more with it after this, perhaps the blue growth would later break down into an ideal fertilizer prompting an explosion of growth?

    I don't think that the organism used animals as food. I think it was fully photosynthetic. It seemed to simply have a well-defined and evolved system of defenses. Evolutionarily speaking, if the organism depended on other animals for 'food' then it would have run out long ago, and then the selective pressures to continue with those defenses would have waned and likely disappeared. Most logically, it would have grown to inhabit as much space as it could, and whatever other creatures or lifeforms would have occupied other niches or represented no competition for resources with the plant.

    Would setting the trees on fire not be a natural inhibitor.Perhaps the planets orbit or local sun changed and therefore regular fires stopped and the platform was able to spread without regular reductions. In theory artifical fibres and metals are impervious apart from its stinging barb. Like a world full of spiders. Like the Borg but not learning anything. If it could be contained it would be a great natural barrier to another hostile animal life. What it lacks is any autonomous behaviour or ability to change behaviour in the face of unexpected counter behaviour. Seeding the planets atmosphere with an inhibitor (acid rain?) might impede it.

Two, halo. spores that can be inhaled and cause mutation almost instantly, along with direct contact, is just like the flood. Three, X-Men. When a group of aliens invaded and tried to make rouge the queen and the rest of the planet aliens though spores wolverine just happened to be the only one that could neutralize the infection, and he just happened to be right there. The first thing that bothered me the most about SGU was the fact Destiny was going to places no Ancient had been to before, but yet so many planets in these uncharted galaxies had Stargates already on them. How did those gates get there if the Ancients had never been there before? We know the ancients built the gate systems in the Ori, Milkyway, and Pegasus galaxies. So if these new galaxies were unexplored by the Ancients how did those Stargates get there. Realistically Destiny would have had to use its shuttles to get to any planet in these unexplored galaxies as they would not have any Stargates yet. Secondly, did anyone at the SGC think to try and contact any ancended ancient, or even Daniel, to see if they had already found the answer to this riddle Destiny was searching for? Knowing the Ancients, they could go to any place and time they wished at a whim using the gates, which apparently they had already placed throughout many, many galaxies. Surely they Could have used the gateway network to travel the distance they wanted to go to easily and then once there gone back in time.went back in time to see who set up the message in the first place. These 2 plot holes seem quite obvious to me. Do they seem obvious to any others?

    I had forgotten about the seed ships, but still the ascended could have simply used them to get to the end of the line, assuming there was an end, and going back to where it began. Would ti have hurt to try? Go to Atlantis data base, and ask it if Destiny's mission had been achieved by the Ancients or Ascended? Atlantis was on Earth so not hard to just go there and ask. We know the Ancients are keeping an eye and ear on Humanity just from the whole Ori situation, who is to say they are still not watching and listening to us? Daniel was one of them. Skara became one of them and still is. Getting an answer to "Did you guys find out what this was?" is not giving away information of what the answer of what was found actually is, just that it was discovered. We know the Ascended Ancient are willing to at least that far, as seen by Morgan Le Fey, And Oma Disala even Merlin in his own fashion. Baring that try asking the Nox. There are two very old sayings. "It never hurts to ask a question", and, "There are no stupid questions, just uninformed people."

    Atlantis is located in the Pegasus Galaxy, not on Earth, and their computer might not even contain that information. Skaara Ascended, though with help, and is not an Ancient, nor would he really be of any help. Generally, the Ascended Ancients are not very helpful (like pulling teeth) and ultimately there would be some sort of limitation in doing so anyway because the plot would require it.

  • @Shaden0040

    @Shaden0040

    First off Atlantis is on Earth floating in the Pacific ocean west of San Francisco as per season 5, last episode and series closer. I said Atlantis' Data Base, the one left behind by the Ancients, not the laptops brought by the Atlantian mission members. Skara might be an intermediary willing to ask the question of the Ancients. They are not very helpful, but they do help in limited ways. Even Daniel when ascended was able to bend the rules. Would the ancients answer? How ever improbable there is a remote possibility that they might give up some information on the subject. Not incredibly useful information at first glance, but enough where we could figure it out given time and information resources.

    Well gee, Doug. Maybe you should devote your life to burning libraries and bombing TV stations? Perhaps you could start a crusade against music and sports? Heck! If you agree to start and stop with trying to stomp out the myths that unleashed religion on this planet I might even volunteer to help. I'm a retired engineer and, other than a month every year doing everything I can to help people in third world countries (I still aven't decided where this year's trip will be but I have several options.) and poor people here at home whenever I can, I don't really have much planned for the next year or two. At least; not much other than fishing, flying RC airplanes, and watching things that catch my interest on KZread. BTW. A mind that doesn't get enough stimulation will fail just as surely as a muscle that doesn't get enough exercise. The funny part is that there doesn't seem to be really matter which intellectual pursuit one chooses. You may not see any value in fiction but it's still good exercise for the brain. You might want to give it a try before your's completely fails due to lack of use.
