As this Wraith Queen points out, the balance has changed. The Wraith are no longer the supreme power of the Pegasus Galaxy. Todd however is the only one to fully grasp how much things have changed. With the threat of Earth ships in Pegasus, the Wraith can never go back to sleep and there's only so long they can be awake before they run out of humans to feed on, and starve. It's why he's willing to consider Keller's gene therapy but he's grim at the thought that it means the end of Wraith culture as it has existed for ten thousand years.

@@DomWeasel And also with the modified Hoffan Drug going around at that point which makes humans poison for Wraith. Especially since he doesn't know how many worlds have humans with that drug.

If the Wraith were unified enough to do it in shifts, where some of them hibernate while the others are active and protecting the hibernating ones, it could be feasible, but the reality is that they're too fractured by this point for that to work out. They wouldn't be able to hibernate just from the threat of other Wraith deciding to knock out the competition, much less from the Daedalus and any other human ships poking around.

China didn't even have aircraft carriers until 6-7 years after this episode aired. Now, granted, the hive's primary goal is to function as a Dart carrier, but that's any carrier in general. Sure, it's got its own weapons, but the vast majority of a hive's strength is dependent on the Darts it can deploy.
