I love how the ending of this movie is just fan service for every kid who’s ever been bullied. He gets to show up his rival with much better skills, gets crowned a monarch with his new girl in front of the one who treated him badly. Also they imply Humphrey is going to cheat on her anyway. And then you get a happily ever after. It’s a bit different than the ending the book has, but I love it.

Well done for spotting that Una was a princess so early - most people don't. I don't know if you picked up on the names of the Royal siblings, especially as most were only mentioned once near the start - Princes Primus, Secundus, Tertius, Quartus, Quintus, Sextus and Septimus, and Princess Una. It's a subtle nod to just how little the king values his children. The boys are all the Latin for first, second, etc., while Una is one in Latin. So the king didn't bother to name his children, he numbered them.

I totally didn’t think about the princess thing until the end of the movie lol. It just felt like something people say in fantasy settings, so it didn’t stick in my brain that she was a princess.

If you look at the princes' outfits, they have their number on it. Septimus has 7 on his buttons and Secondous has a roman numeral 2 embrodiered on his coat for examples.

Such a sweet movie, right? Charlie Cox was ridiculously adorable. There’s a lot of changes from the book that I actually prefer. They made it a warmer, kinder story.

Ian McKellan was indeed the narrator. Well spotted! I didn't realize it the first time I watched it. I love Captain Shakespeare and how his men "always knew" and accepted and respected him all along.

To be fair, I think I only noticed because of my recent reactions to LoTR - I doubt I'd have recalled the voice otherwise. 😊

This was my introduction to Charlie Cox and the reason I watched Daredevil. He is just the best! When Tristan leaves Yvaine at the inn, he gives a message for her, which the shopkeeper half-assed in the re-telling causing Yvaine to misunderstand.

I'm hearing a West Country accent, so it might interest you that the village of Wall was filmed at Castle Combe village, near Chippenham. Lovely little village, although I've only been in the village a couple of times, most of my trips there have been for the motor racing nearby. It's been used as a setting for a lot of films, including more recently (than Stardust) War Horse.

The one thing that I don't understand is: how come nobody reacting to this movie knows Peter O'Toole anymore? He was arguably the best actor we've seen, ever... nobody recognizes him anymore. He's there for a minute and that's more than enough, that's all he needs to make a scene better... it's bloody Peter O'Toole!!! (all the rest I agree: fantastic movie).

I did recognise him - I just couldn't remember the name! (Not sure if that makes things better or worse)

Some of my favorite movies are quirky and not popular. This is one of them. Willow and Time bandits is another two. I really loved this movie. Thank you for choosing to watch it.

Really enjoyed your reaction. Well spotted for realising it was Ian McKellen narrating. And it was fun seeing you realise how many "name actors" were in this. Some of them quite early in their careers, like Charlie Cox (Daredevil) & Henry Cavill (Superman). BTW, the original version of Stardust was a "book with pictures" with beautiful illustrations by Charles Vess. It was later released as a prose-only book. I very much prefer the version with the illustrations. This movie adaptation changed a few things, the book didn't have the Robert de Niro character (or thingy as you called him) but both the book & movie are a delight.

This is one of if not the best movie to come out that year. It just had barely any advertising. It's Mathew Vaughn (Dir) before Kingsmen 1-2, Kickass. People didn't know he was awesome yet. Can't wait for the new one with Henry Cavill.
