I think our generation likes this game so much because it's everything we wish our lives was- a tight knit community that served as an escape from the drudgery of life, with plenty of deep personal moments where hard work always pays off. It's everything a Millennial could only dream of.

I just moved into a house and my neighbors been helping me learn about my garden. Shared tomatoes. I shared back salsa with him. It can be - you just have to make an effort. It's easy to shut everyone out and hide behind phones and the internet. But nobody is stopping you from sharing some nice home cooked food with a neighbor and offering to watch their pets and building relationships. That's what's been lost in bigger cities.

I feel nothing but admiration towards the creator of the game, he created literally every single aspect of the game by himself.. music, sound effects, programming, art, writing.. and it´s so satisfying that everything is god damn perfection. Many people don´t know this fact but i really hope more people can see what an amazing and insanely talented individual he is.

Yes, this is very impressive indeed. Not only from a technical or craftsmanship point of view, but also because this game has so much soul and heart. If you compare it to most of the AAA titles that are monetized as hell you can feel how soulless and "corporate" games have become. Stardew Valley is a rare gem and Eric has earned every heart felt "Thank you" and every dollar he makes of this game...as does his long time girlfriend Amber who supported him during the 4 years he needed to develop it.

this is one of those games like Minecraft, Terraria, FTL, Crypt of the Necrodancer (these are my examples, but honorable mentions that I don't have yet would include Hollow Knight, Among Us, etc). The price may seem high to someone who hasn't ever had any experience with the game, but the value you get from playing the game, the feelings you have, the experience, the soundtrack, the intense gameplay, whatever it is for each game specifically; the value of the game far exceeds any Steam price found on it. Zero regrets with Stardew Valley, and I'm just almost through my first year, playing with my girlfriend. Excellent experience.

I created my first actual save two days ago and didn’t sleep yesterday, I literally started playing, and did not stop playing until it was the next day. That’s how amazing this game was, for me to be able to go 17 hours straight without stopping and not get bored is amazing, everything about this game is brilliant and though I’m not *super* far in I’m still having tons of fun

It's so easy to forget the time when playing this game. Every time a new day starts in the game I think if I should stop, but because I already went outside the house and harvested some stuff in the first minute I'm like 'Oh well, now I might as well play through the whole day' Rinse and repeat until it's 4 in the morning.

The «Grandpa's Theme» always have such a special effect on me... In november 2016 i lost my grand father. One of the hardest moment I had to face in my life... Not so long after, when i discover this game and first saw the cinematic with the theme, damn i cried... Most of my memories with him were born around a fire next to the lake where he lived with my grand mother. So the fire sounds in background had so much more for me. I found in this game something that i never had before in videogames

This game is so masterfully done it's almost unbelievable. What I like the most about it, however, is not about gameplay - it's about the atmosphere. I don't know how SV does this (music and artstyle probably play a huge part), but when I launch it, I instantly feel better than before, and I just want to keep playing because it genuinelly makes me happy. Everything is so peaceful, beautiful and welcoming, and you feel like you're not a stranger, but a part of it all. For me SV feels like home, even though I've never lived in a countryside and haven't even played Harvest Moon.

ossi_ yep, that's definitely not the right term, as well as poignancy. Nostalgia do not fit because it refers to the past. The feeling I have in mind is something like that - you know something is not good now (like, you're awfully cold), but you know that's how the world turns and eventually it will be better (the spring is near). Or like you've just lost someone you loved, but you know that person is not suffering anymore so it's kinda good.

+Son et Lumière I'm not shocked by his ability to make the entire soundtrack alongside the other things. Tons of indie game developers writer their own soundtracks. What impresses me is that he didn't use the assistance of any game engines. He made it all from scratch. Speaking as a freelance composer, it doesn't take a ton of time to get a good grip on instrumentation and musicality. But let me tell you: fundamental game design, now that's a jungle that I wouldn't even KNOW how to begin exploring. That takes a lot of time, effort, and patience to figure out.

+Arbitrary Renaissance a basic grip on music can be learnt easily, but to say a good grip on instrumentation and musicality doesn't take a lot of time is overstating it, there's the range of every instrument, along with their colors in each parts of their range, how they transpose, all their special techniques etc. etc. knowing that is what I'd call a good grip.

Ted Zimmermann You're right: there's a lot to be learnt in regards to musical composition. It takes a lot of patience to figure out what sounds good and what doesn't: I still have yet to work it all out myself. All I'm saying is that comparatively speaking, the music is the easy part in all of this, it seems. It still takes a LOT of time and effort to make a 2 hour soundtrack, but it's not the toughest part in the creator's venture in making this game.

As somebody with 250 hours on a single file in Stardew Valley with every single achievement (besides completing Joja, beating Journey of the Prairie King, and beating it without dying), this soundtrack brings me back to all of the fun hours I had, making me nostalgic for a game I played through less than a year ago. I still revisit my beautiful farm from time to time, which I have upgraded with visual mods, and play through a few days, reminiscing about my time in the valley and the perfect life that always awaits me there.

I've played almost every Harvest Moon game so I had a bit of experience in regard to how the game would go, so I was able to complete the community center and get married by the second spring. Even doing that, it still took me 60+ hours because I made the most out of every day. After that, I was still entertained by the late-game content (Casino, Calico Dungeon) for another 20 or so. Insanely good game. Better than any HM game by a wide margin. Really hope it ends up being influential and more games of this genre pop up. And more importantly, it's absolutely INCREDIBLE that one person made this game. I still don't believe it. The music, the sprites, the coding, the writing, ALL OF IT? Kinda depressing, I will never even have a fraction of that talent.

I love the tasteful use of banjo throughout this soundtrack. When done how it is here, I find myself loving it. I'm also really happy that he added sitar to many of the pieces as well. This ConcernedApe guy has something special, not only did he create an amazing game by himself, but he's got a penchant for simple melodies that perfectly fit the setting, and executes them masterfully. Favorite pieces are "The Sun Can Bend an Orange Sky", "Ghost Synth", "Raven's Descent"(definitely my #1), "Dance of the Moonlight Jellies", and "Icicles". Thanks for upload! Also Sam's Band (Heavy) is 1:32:44, not 31, btw.

Eric Barone is one of the most talented people I have ever known of, especially in gaming. He's every bit what Notch is with Minecraft, and honestly I find SDV far more fun to play. It's more endearing and even haunting in places, especially with Barone's fall themes of Ghost Synth and The Smell of Mushroom. Those almost make me tear up when I hear them. They remind me of my mother, who passed away from cancer last October, so fall will always be connected with her.
