Tosh might be excentric but Hanson says afterwards that Nova lied about Spectre instability so no matter which way you spin it siding with Tosh is the good ending: - You get Tosh (Who still is with Raynor's Raiders during HOTS and proves loyal as he volunteers to rescue Jimmy) - You get Spectres (Who are cooler than Ghosts) - You free political enemies of Mengsk and multiple Allies to fight Mengsk Siding with Nova gets you this: - A dead Tosh (Who again, proves to be a very loyal ally) - How to train your Ghost - Nova not looking the other way during HOTS anyway - Mengsk' political enemies remain locked-up. Granted you get a funny Tychus moment if you side with Nova

Maybe the best part of siding with Tosh is that he remains on your side, being your TOTAL BRO. Also Tosh looks pretty badass compared to that skinny chick who is by the by your enemy and the enemy of my enemy is your bro.

One other thing you missed with siding with Nova, she randomly shows up on the ship in the armory if sit and watch for a bit. It's brief, but when she de-cloaks she's sitting on the crate with rifle in hand and cloaks again.

@Diotato Brandomato Don't forget how most of the Ghosts' actual ability arsenal is completely and utterly pointless vs anything but Ultralisks regarding Snipe (which Spectre's can also do with Psionic Lash...and against big mechanical units too) and enemies rarely use Energy caster units effectively for EMP to be useful.
@onatyungul872

@@joshuakim5240 EMP can nuke protoss, Ghosts are anti Protoss while Spectres are anti Zerg/terran. Also ghosts can EMP Kerrigan in the final mission. However i like Specters for them being a better Marine in the combat; (use marines in defence, but use Specters for Aggresion)

At least This Mengsk was alot better than his old man
Actually, it was confirmed by Blizzard that Nova was just telling Raynor what Mengsk had told her; she truly -did- believe that the Spectres were all murderers and lunatics, because she believed Mengsk (having been -resocialized- to take him at his word and always be loyal to him; brainwashing, yay!). But, yes, the Spectres are no more insane than regular ghosts. Except for being a bit more "odd" in collecting trinkets.

The Spectres WOULD be insane if it isn't for the stabilizing agent Jorium (which is why Tosh needed you to get Jorium on Redstone). Terrazine is quite well-known for causing hallucination or just make a person go insane. However some side effect will remain, one well-known side effect is superstition making the Spectres do eccentric stuff like collecting dolls and some other voodoo stuffs to supposedly enhance their power.

I wasn't that big a fan of the Wings of Liberty storyline overall, but I do like this cutscene. The clash between Horner's idealism and Tosh's cynicism is beautifully handled, with Raynor sort of in the middle: personally leaning more towards Tosh's revenge motive, but respecting Horner's dreams nevertheless.

Tosh may have seemed like a real jerk at times but in the end he really was a good guy. This becomes extremely evident when you talk to him while using the Ihan crystal. He seems very concerned about Raynor's sanity.
Loved siding with Tosh. He was one of Raynor's better allies in SC 2 imo, real loyal and a bro.
My father doesn't really like me playing StarCraft or in general any video game, but he likes this cutscene. It's got a philosophical feel like good old movies such as do. StarCraft and all science-fiction stories these days really can use more like this. It's not just about fancy robots, cool spaceships, or bloody aliens, you know? At the end of the day, it feels really good to walk away from the story and smile, knowing you have learned something from it. It's something that we can count on to present 'geeky' stuffs like this to our parent generation and say proudly: "You know what, Dad and Mom, video games don't just teach us violence. They can also teach us a thing or two about life."

I always went with Tosh. He is a pragmatist. He might seem sinister, but instead he's just deeply realistic about humanity. The guy has been a special forces soldier since he was a kid.
I think this is the best cinematic of Starcraft II, it sums up everything quite nicely. It brims with hope, but foreshadows death.

Well that's what this scene tried to imply. Personally Raynor is all for revenge. Not his goal but he's just agreeing that the Admiral would also see a better future.
That's why Tosh promises to only use volunteers so Spectres dont go insane and unpredictable. Tosh is a good person and when he turned into a spectre he's still with the good guys. So the good choice is to help Tosh.
I always picked my crew over other people. I chose Ariel because I wanted to give her a chance to save her people. I chose Tosh because even though he wasn't upfront with me he pointed out the basic fact, "she won't even join you!" He basically says that all your getting is some helpful gear and no loyalty. And tychus because he wanted the freedom the crew fought for. For the simple want of being with his friend and starting a new life. Even though it didn't happen. Raynors crew are the people worth fighting for. Otherwise in Toshs words "Tomorrow there will be a new menks. And another one after that." But that's only if we don't learn from mistakes as a whole

Guys tosh is actually the good guy. Nova's memory got wiped out with the other ghosts to keep the fate ofold family heirs secret. In fact Nova and tosh were lovers just that she does not remember it. You made the ride choice in siding with tosh :)
I always thought that this ending was far more fitting than Nova’s, that Raynor would have never chosen Nova if he’d been put in that situation
I really hope this is the canon choice. This cutscene is such a powerful moment in the progression of Jim's character. He truly believes that there could be a better tomorrow but acknowledges that the future belongs to men like Matt. Men like Jim and Gabriel are fighters, warriors on a path for revenge from which there is no turning back. As amusing as the Nova ending is (Poor old Tychus paying for Raynor's mistakes AGAIN) it doesn't pack the same kind of emotional punch.
I think Tosh would be a good friend if he's real in life. Just always be on his good side tho.

one of the very few legitimately good story moments in SCII.
Also, if you still have Ariel Hanson on board, she explains that Nova lied about spectres being the ruthless killers they were thought to be. Tosh even states that he only accepts volunteers.
The fun part about siding with Tosh is that he will stay on the ship and give you second opinions on things.

But less funny
Tosh is a good guy, albeit a very disillusioned and a very dangerous one. But even if he wasn't, I'd choose Tosh over that Dominion slut any day. If Nova hadn't captured Jim in HotS, Sarah wouldn't have rejoined the Zerg to exact vengeance on Mengsk. She would never have gone to Zerus, and she'd never have become the primal Queen of Blades. Raynor would have found another way.
@Limrasson

Jain Farstrider Ne he would have not. Even if Nova did not interfere, Zeratul would have sent them to Zerus. And actually Nova was willnigly brainwashed, that's why she is a total bitch. @lan.sredojevic
9 жыл бұрын
Limrasson Zeratul might have told them to go to Zerus so that Kerrigan could become the primal Queen of Blades, but Raynor would never have accepted that. Rather, he would find another solution, an alternative. Jim had moved heaven and earth to bring Sarah back, no way in hell would he just give up on her. As for Nova... we are who we choose to be.

Limrasson We don't know that they would have died. It's difficult to see. Always in motion is the future. Jim Raynor had proven on countless occasions that he was a great man and great leader. Maybe he would have created an alliance between the Terrans, the Protoss, and the Zerg that human Sarah could still control. Maybe the UED would have sent their fleets and tipped the scales in Raynor's favour. Maybe that Xel'Naga artifact which had been used to save Sarah could still have been used against the Hybrid. In my opinion, Raynor could have found another way, because he's a guy who can go up against impossible odds and still win. When Raynor is on your side, you know anything is possible, because he radiates this confidence and determination which can keep people fighting for and believing in a cause greater than themselves. Of course, that's just my two cents. You're perfectly entitled to your own opinion. Maybe you are right and I am wrong.
@Limrasson
9 жыл бұрын
Confidence and radiation means pretty mcuh nothing. The only one who coudl controll the Zerg against Amon is Kerrigan. But even so, why would have it been better if they could manage what you have said, story wise? It would be really cheap, everyone wins situation, wouldn't it be?
It is actually better to go with Tosh morally because just like Horner said, it is building a better tomorrow. Also, spectres are awesome, they can do 200 damages after the upgrade and they have the ultrasonic shock thing.
I really like Tosh, and I wish he had a larger bearing on the plot (there were only three missions in which he was doing anything).
Actually, if you side with him he does pop up for a brief moment in a HOTS cinematic, you see him in the background leaning against a rail in the Hyperion bridge and looking out at the ship you're about to attack. Not too mention Horner says Tosh has offered to sneak aboard the ship himself but Kerrigan turns him down.
This sort of scene is what defines gaming. Not some shitty lootboxes
Tosh represents the broken side of humanity in SC universe. If Raynor betrays Tosh it is essentially his decision to give up on the broken part of humanity. The soldiers, assasins, etc etc all who know only how to kill one another, by not giving up on Tosh he is not giving up on them.
Same thing as you, brother. I don't *quit* 'til Mengsk is *dead.*
probably my favorite cinematic. And Tosh is my favorite character as well.
@1503nemanja I like the fact that Raynor saved the colonists, because for one thing it sounds much more like him, because he's a humanitarian at heart. Another is that protecting colonists will rally support for him against the Dominion.
@TheSteamLoller333 well siding with Hanson was what i remember after reading the Starcraft wiki articles for the missions. And note that when you select the mission at the star map, it gives the mission name as Safe Haven (Hanson) instead of Haven's Fall (Selendis). Same for the last Tosh mission. when selected, the mission name is given as Breakout (tosh) instead of Ghost Of A Chance (nova).
@Tumerok22 The song at @2:00 is an old Navy Hymn 'Eternal Father Strong to Save' Track is 'Better Tomorrow' but a better version of it can be found on the Crimson Tide soundtrack.
Loved how the song "Eternal Father Strong to save" just starts.
Nice touch with the Naval Hymn ETERNAL FATHER.
Best campaign choice ever
@MessagerOfHell Of course and that's why I'm never surprised on what happens to those people later on anymore
It is funny how 1080p was such a big deal back then. If it was released today, it would be in 4k.
What part of Character Remaining count did I not state (Note this is not out of anger) Because of the limit of what I can put down I have to somtimes shorten words and such and this is about the previous one I made 2 weeks ago, No one is perfect and with limited characters you have to give a guy a break (And note that even with the errors it can still be read and understood so why are people giving me grief over a few minor errors Plz explain)
One time in class I was in a debate with another student. I interrupted him by throwing a butterfly knife and sticking it in his desk leaning over and speaking in a Jamacan accent. When the teacher called the police I turned on Cloak and smiled real big. I won.
this is one of the best cutscenes in the game in terms of sheer emotion and deepth.
best cutscene in the game. so much more meaningful than the alternative.
at 2:00 the music that plays, is that on the official soundtrack? if so what is the title?
Man, red Spectre cloak looks so damn cool.
@sairoku If it's for the right reason, is killing wrong?
@Rotaermel Perhaps. Perhaps not. "We all got our choices to make."
this give me tears
Did anyone notice that some of the names and pictures of released prisoners were actually blizzard employees?
@doom2sgt actually Dr Narud is Duran spelt backwards, and he have same facial hair as Duran... i also read from starcraft wiki that in one of the novel Naurd sent an expedition group to do some research... turned out they released the dark voice for a brief moment...
@1503nemanja Yea, this ending and the one siding with the colonists just make a lot more sense after watching each....
this is my favourite song from the soundtrack
@Narania234 howd she confirm nova was lying?
@1503nemanja Pretty much. The reason saving the colonists is canonical is probably because it's more in character for Raynor to try to help them. His revolution has always been about "saving lives."
@Dragonmaw We can't be sure of that yes Narud spelled backwards makes Duran but this could be a prank by blizzard to make us think how the story gonna turn just to surprise us.
So what happened to Nova in this version?
And from that day forth whenever he was alone, Jim Raynor would occasionally pull out an old music player and jam out to Ghostbusters to freak out any eavesdropping ghosts.
Yay I'm not the only one who thinks Duran is coming back! I wonder how they r going to show him in the next 2 campaigns, kinda hope he is in the HOS at least a little.
This is by far the best ending of the two. Plus, Spectres >>> Ghosts.
I've never played a SC game and I was reading the wiki earlier. It's kind of sad/bizarre about the beginnings of Tosh/Nova (if you read up on them)..and how the endings play out here.
Tosh i choose you.
@Rotaermel reading the descriptions of the vehicles at the armory and tychus' history it really was the best choice The prisoners were just locked up becuz mengsk hated them, but since mengsk is "bad" and the prisoners stand up against mengsk just like raynor and horner, the prisoners are the "good guys". aswell as people in the mechanical suits and vehicle are,so this is indeed the right choice from the view of hyperion :D
@101fmp well they tried to with Starcraft:Ghost if you watch the trailer for that game, you can see that Nova is actually in it :P Btw I choose for Tosh too, like the guy more and it seems that Nova was lying about the specters being psychotic. Also releasing prisoners wouldn't be a problem since if you read in the armory the Firebat and Marauder description, you'll notice we have been using them quite a lot :P.
@bulletcase19 It was said in the art DVD from the collectors edition that the cannon choices will be siding with Tosh and saving the colonists. I am kinda neutral on the colonists dilemma, but I strongly support the fact that they are sticking to the Tosh ending, it is just so much more meaningful than the Nova ending.

sorry, I've never played starcraft, but is nova with Mengsk?
nope I was rushing with that last message and I was shortening certain characters names (Kerri=Kerrigan) because of character remaining count, the only mistake i made was abouttosh= about Tosh
Where did all those BattleCruisers come from? The Raiders only have the Hyperion.
任務失敗トッシュは救わ (Mission failure Tosh saved)
um, i fail to see how a bloodthirsty backstabber is the good guy.
@sairoku Yes, but that is entirely dependent on your view point. Killing yourself or Alistair/Loghain is unnecessary, but even though I did Morrigan's ritual, I fully expect it to bite me in the ass at some point and some people would deem it necessary to kill a warden to protect Thedas. Annulling the Circle can be seen as unnecessary, but it can also be perceived as necessary.
does he still die from nova??
@Rotaermel Indeed it was. All Tosh's kind were guilty of was being different.
@chinnygan Thats true, though if you still got Hanson with you, she tells you that Spectres are not psychopaths as Nova said. At least not more than normal Ghosts are.
@bulletcase19 Dont worry, I checked, Breakout is the canon mission
"Tomorrow it'll be a new Mengsk" "You'll see that better future Matt, but it aint for the likes of us" At the end of SC2: Valerian Mengsk is the new ruler, and Matt stays as grand admiral of the new terran empire... and Raynor and Tosh just dissapeared.
@bulletcase19 I'd like to say all the choices that were Left (I.E Protect Colony, side with Tosh and the Nydus Worms) are canon
Touche, my friend.
Matt Horner is so goddamn awesome.
I love spectres...i just wish they could implement that awesome neon flow in their suits in game and that badass red cloak field....spectres>ghosts
Doctor hallen straight up says that the specters are no different than normal ghosts.
when I see this cutscene, I wonder why I decided to choose Nova, however that cutscene was hilarious with Tychus being thrown around the room :P
I first choose Ariel, Tosh and Warfield missions... Now I'm redoing the campaign to try Selendis, Nova and Tychus missions...
@STarCRAFT4BRITS when ur made into a spectre u lose them for some reason. utr eyes go that milky white color

Tbh, the first time I played this, I chose Nova. The 2nd time, I chose Tosh and haven't regreted it. :D
I know why Blizzard didn't do it, but it'd be nice to bring Tosh into the Nydus worm tunnels with the rest of the boys, or gain him as a mercenary you could hire for the mission.
"There's a spectre(spy) creeping around here !" (TF2)
@MegaClam1 Maybe the second one is Mengsk.
This cutscene was one of the few that has the feelings of Broodwar left with. Not that much, but still this was deeper than most of other stories of SC2.
I played WOL campaign twice with both options an I felt genuinely bad after crossing Tosh
@LightofLand Nova told Jim and Matt lies about the Spectres to bring them up against Tosh. Spectres aren't psychotic killers, as Doc Hanson tells you if she's still onboard the Hyperion.
