    5:23 it looks like the tower segments are being permanently attached to those shorter stands that they were placed on at Sanchez. there are lots of good pictures on various sites that if you pay attention, you can see those little extensions being attached and painted. They are even installing a wider cross brace that’s how the towers getting taller each segment is growing by a couple feet.

    The ablative survace below the actual heatshield looks genious. It would absolutely remove most risks involved with plasma passing through the heatshield as well as missing tiles, but since it's just a backup layer that hardly would take all the heat it wouldn't need to be replaced everytime like other capsules, making it reusable.

    A centimeter off at one, two or three of the corners at the base can lead to a huge issue by the time you reach the top of the tower causing leaning or massive stresses on the structure.

  • @knowledgeisgood9645

    @knowledgeisgood9645

    I am sure they will have better tolerances than that. 1 cm difference between two corners (about 150 cm apart) would become 100 cm at the top of the tower. No engineer would ever accept that.

    In Ver2, the nose ones will be further back and out of the slipstream. However, Elon said that one the camera was on, was actually the only one that burned through. _(which makes me wonder if it was intentional, like the other test points where they removed tiles in order to see how resilient things are, but they're not admitting it 🤷‍♂️)_ So with thicker tiles AND ask ablative mat, this might be enough to prevent it from happening on the tail flaps.

    In regards to the taller tower situation, I don’t think there will be any extra “modules”, if they are going to be building a flame trench could it be possible to resemble the one over at the test site (but way bigger)? And if it is it will have a much lower profile to the ground unlike the current OLM, bringing the base of the stack way closer to the ground. So instead of going up there going down? Just a thought. 🤔😁

    Idea why don’t Space X build 4 towers and run High tension cables in between the four towers creating a square in the centre of the four towers to catch the booster. So the booster drops into square and the four cable close using a horizontal mechanism. Then once the booster is caught it can be lowered by releasing the tension on the cable onto the moving platform and then moved back to the tower to be lifted by the arms back onto the launch pad. Seems a lot safer than risking taking one of the towers out. I don’t know what the physics implications would be to construct something like this but it seems it would be hell of a lot safer that what their going to attempt. Don’t be harsh on me if you think it’s a stupid idea, just would like to know if this would be possible by someone who’s in the know.👍

    China is working in this idea but with a much smaller rocket. They created an animation for it. Would be far more challenging to build it in a scale needed here. The easiest solution is to add landing legs like the do with Falcon 9 booster. They are not looking for anyway to land it but rather a way to land it that maximizes mass to orbit and minimizes turn around time.
