Star Wars X-Wing Alliance - Defend Shipyard (Cinematographic style)

This is a video of a custom mission I created for the game X-Wing Alliance. I followed my technique of cinematographic style that I used in my other video "The Best of Star Wars X-Wing Alliance" • The Best of Star Wars ...
Several things are unique about this mission; things that I've never saw in other custom mission, nor in original missions.
The idea of this mission is to enjoy a more realistic battle, having as most AI fighters the game supports on Jedi difficulty. But don't worry, you can also count on Jedi-level Rebel fighter friends to help you.
Unique things about this mission:
- Includes as many objects at the same time as the game allows.
- All enemies and allies have the maximum AI skill possible (Jedi).
- Capital Ships will be traveling at more realistic speeds according to their real specifications (not the fake slow speeds the game has by default). This has been achieved without modifying the game.
- You start inside a real hangar with a few of your wingmen.
- Fighter waves come individually, 1 by 1, meaning it is a lot less likely that a bunch of Imperial fighters will come after you at once (that is not fun). So generally you will not have more than 2 TIEs trying to kill you at the same time. Keep in mind even 1 TIE Interceptor can kill you easily, so always check for fighters targeting you. Also, many fighters can attack you at once if you are not close to your allies.
- Team effort is rewarded more than individual effort. This means you get points for ships destroyed even if you didn't directly help. Results are what matter.
- For the first time in a mission it is really helpful to attack capital ships' engines so there is more time to destroy them before they hyper out. Without damaging the engines they will get to their hyperspace points relatively quick.

Special game features used:
- Shift+F Record replay
- Filming Room to watch the replays
- Crtl+END toggles HUD on/off
- C to drop camera in film room
Why I didn't use all upgraded models of the X-Wing Upgrade Project?
Because this video was intended to be about the original game. Another reason is that using upgrade models makes drop fps in my computer (not sure why, because is a new computer).

This was at a time when I still had hope for the Star Wars saga.
4:05 THIS IS FREAKING EPIC! How the heck did you manage to get some of the ships to do exactly what you want in order to create some very nice footage..?

In the mission editor I can set what each ship will do, and when they will do it. For the x-wing, I just play the game. Like 4:05, I wait the ship to explode and I go at full speed toward it and avoid the debris. All this while recording the replay. Later I can play the replay and select where I want the camera, and move the camera with the joystick.

***** On this video, no. All you see is what was capture by the recorder. I only join all together and add sound effects, music, etc.
absolutely amazing job!! This video felt like watching a real sequence from a Star Wars movie. This is the best Star Wars game ever imo. I installed it again recently and play it a lot, and I'm hoping to be able to make my own add-on ships for it soon, if I find the stuff I need.
Great job! Gosh a remake for X-Wing Alliance would be groundbreaking, maybe one day

That would be nice, but ONLY if they made it in the same style and spirit as the original. However, knowing the way game and film makers are these days, I fear they would just ruin it by trying way too hard to make it "cool'.
X-Wing Alliance is still the best Star Wars sim -- both gameplay wise and graphically. I actually like this low poly style more than Unreal 5 engine graphics. Reminds me of my other favorite -- Quake.

I misread the upload date, thought it was Oct 6th 2020. Imagine how epic this mission would look paired with the Xwing Alliance Upgrade project mods.

That's awesome man. I love your videos. Did you ever play balance of power. They had a really cool level where the Liberty was being pursued by a imperial battle group and the rebels were waiting to ambush them when they came out of hyperspace. You should make video like that! But anyway great job again!

KABZProductions Yes, I play all missions on balance of power extension of XvT. Don't remember that mission in particular because I play it long ago. Would be cool make more videos, but takes too much time and effort. This was my last video of this kind. But thank you for your words of support. Cheers.
Seriously awesome. It would even even more awesomke if you could do it again with the XWA Upgrade graphics. Would love to see it like that.
The rebel plot armor is thick in this one! The carrack class cruisers are designed to kill x wings yet they didn’t fire? The Star destroyers didn’t fire. The Star destroyers didn’t launch their full wings of fighters each. I can go on and on.

I think this will be an alternate scene for TIE fighter
epic I already forgot that there are such fights) The question of filling the imperial ship is so big and so useless and ineffective, this is really interesting.
Those poor TIE fighter pilots, getting slaughtered like sheep
Having lost an entire Imperial battlegroup I doubt the Empire will be coming back any time soon.
The score from 2:08; what's it called? I used to play Xwing v Tiefighter and whenever I paused the game it used to play very intensely over the speakers.

Sadly that is it. The two cinematographic videos I made about this game is all I wanted to do about this game. Is too much work to keep doing this kind of videos, and are not as popular. Right now I am into other projects. But thanks. I am glad you like it
Great working putting this together! But 30 odd X-Wings defeating 3 star destroyers, a squadron of Ties, plus supporting ships, is a stretch lol
I wish they would reboot the X-Wing game franchise. They were better than any of the crap EA puts out nowadays.
I don't recall ISD being that flimsy, but nice work.
Do you need any extra Programs to make those Cinematographic Videos? Or can it be done with only the base game?

I record the game replay with Shift+F and watch on the Filming Room.

The game has a built in recorder that records any gameplay so you can replay it with all freedom. I drop a camera in the angle I want and play the sequence while I record the screen

Nicely done. Not sure why that Mon Calamari starship couldn't get in there and mix it up, but otherwise well made.
