The article on the website kinda describes this as like a hybrid of the ideas of Star Wars Destiny (leader and base choice, alternating player actions, shield counters, so on) and the ideas of the old WOTC Star Wars TCG (multiple fronts to fight on). I like the art, it's a unique spin. The card backs are cool. I didn't want to be excited, I wanted to be cautious given the history of FFG and card games... but I officially am excited lol

The decipher TCG is part of what got me into star wars in the first place. Hope this can live up to it!

They should just remake that, with more streamlined rules, get rid of some of the walls of text on some cards.. could be glorious. Don't know if anyone can use the SWCCG system or if Decipher still holds right to it, even though they are dead company and will never do anything with it.

That game had dice for suspense and is far better than this bland vanilla offering.

Doing one action at a time instead of a whole turn reminds me of Legends of Runeterra (LoL card game) which was my favourite thing about that game. Excited to see how it plays out in a physical game. The advantage of this is that it increases player interaction without having to have awkward "do you have a reaction/response?" phases.

Interesting choice, using The Planets for a Star Wars game as John Williams used it for inspiration for the Star Wars themes

I really REALLY didn't want to collect another card game after being burned a few times . . . But this genuinely has me excited. Are we looking at a SWCCG / Destiny hybrid here that has elements of comic and games for source material. Collectable IF you want it to be . . . . what a clever move but they know we'll be suckered in!

Sorry, we underestimated how popular this was going to be. There will be no new boosters put into the system for 2 years while try to meet demand.

It doesn't really look like an appealing game. The artwork just feels off for some reason, like it's trying to be comic book art, but has the feel of running movie stills through a cell shading program or AI art program. The frames don't do the cards any favors, and the backs don't really feel evocative of the setting. I remember fondly the days of playing the old Decipher card game, and the cards felt like Star Wars cards.

Damn I kinda agree. I was really hoping to love this, as I have been looking for a new physical Star Wars game to get invested in... But I also kinda hate the art, and card designs as a whole. They look... cheap and cheesy.

Agree, it’s fine if you like that cartoony style. But when you look at the card artwork for all the other Star Wars games FFG has made like like the rpgs, x-wing, and armada? It’s no contest.

Off topic question: When are more Genesys TRPG System dice sets going to be available? I really need a third set.

I wonder how this varies from the Deck Builder game, I liked the self contained nature of that one

ive got star wars game fatigue. i still cant play my lambda shuttle in X-wing tabletop because they still havent gotten around to making it 2.0 legal. even after i had to buy 5+ conversion kits for all my minis so that i would become dependent on an app to make my squad lists because the cards give no indication of point value or equipment loadout, then the app loses support. now we have to download a bunch of PDFs every couple months to play the game, or use 3rd party site, even as a basic casual player. now there are 2 more star wars card games, deckbuilding and CCG, im still trying to find room to store all those giant dice from Destiny. youre going to have to show me why this game is any different/better than the other dozen card games i already own, which this video does not do.

The article says it will have draft and sealed. So I expect them to be available from day one.

The top left number is “mana” cost but the symbols underneath could indicate a threshold symbol cost which come from locations like your base? Vader and luke seem to be providing dark side and light side tags and faction tags in the top right while not costing symbols just a boat load of “mana”. Usually in systems like this you need locations that stay in play or throw away “threshold” characters that are generically costed and just provide tags. Whats up with that vader art though? Lol.

The resource cost is the cost to flip them to their other side so they can brought onto the battlefield. Similar to the Ruler/J-Ruler mechanics in FoW.

The promo article from May 16 says "SPARK of Rebellion" is the first set name.

I love the art style! Got to say what I am hearing so far makes this an interesting second game to my Tragic the Saddening addiction 😍. This and the fact that decipher star wars actually got me into Magic and all things tabletop.

Just make a coop LCG game is SW universe like Marvel Champions or Arkham Horror LCG. THAT would be great not a TCG that will die the same as Destiny.

@@garthantash asmodde took over the production for both games, and since them they are shitting on the customers. it was all better before when FFG was in charge, you could have replacement ships, and they were keen on making sure everything worked. since asmodde took over, there are no reprints (in/for europe) and new ships are scarce as they can be. if Asmodde intentions are to kill both games, they are doing a great job at it. for me it's 3d printing since they won't reprint the few ships I'm missing and since the new ones don't get to most hobby shops. and shipping from the us it's not a option since customs screws you over

Ya, but the LCGs are massive and require a significant investment. A TCG, you can just buy singles you need for a deck. Yes, inevitably you'll need to buy chase cards etc.. but at least you'll use the cards you buy. Some of the LCGs like netrunner required buying multiples of the same box just to get 1-2 cards in x3 amount. Either way FFG has found a way to screw the customer. I loved SW Destiny, wonder how this game will hold up against it.

@Chosen One mtg has gotten strange over the past few years. Stranger things, transformers, D&D, etc... at least star wars is just star wars. Agreed, all the different artwork in star wars would make for sweet cards. Would love to see some comic book art treatment variants.

@Chosen One i sold all of my mtg last year never to return. The pace of releases is impossible to keep up with and the amount of reprints ruins any collector value. Aside from draft and casual commander that game is for people that spend $500 a month on a hobby. Not for me.

Oh look! Another game FFG will drop inside 2 years. Pass. Given FFG enough money, every time they drop the game like a hot potato. Zero commitment.

Ugh why can't they just buy the Decipher Star Wars CCG rules/system (or can anyone just use it now, it's been so long) or make one like it and fine tune it to be even better. This looks so "been there, done that" from SW games the past dozen years. Even the name "Spark of Rebellion" just sounds so generic like an Episode Title from some crummy SW Disney+ TV show. Art looks from uninspired to just...hideous. And of course being a FF game, tokens and baggage galore. Sigh. It might boom out of the gate, but this won't last more than a few expansions, better rethink this one FFG. Good luck.

Ok, FFG, please just use the art from Destiny. That games art was beautiful. I’m really not liking the look of the cards here.

TCG? Hard pass. FFG has a shady history of discontinuing its even more promising LCGs. I can't see how "Unlimited" this game will be. I'm sure the gameplay is fun. I just don't trust FFG anymore-especially when it comes to Star Wars.

@@lukemayhew7113 Fair point on good runs, and I would argue some like Netrunner could have kept going (which still is thanks to community/NISEI). As for whether I'd like this more as an LCG: yes and moot. I would know what I'm buying into as opposed to needing to spend over $100 for a box and still not get a complete collection let alone enough to field a set of cards. Thus the T of TCG to trade for what I need which isn't interesting or valuable to me but of major monetary value to FFG as TCGs make more in profit (for the store especially if you look at MTG, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh!). Also, matchups in an LCG is about one's ability to construct and pilot a deck without the nuance and (often quite decisive for casuals) the need to have collected a set of higher rarity cards. The moot part is that it's still FFG so-whether it's LCG or TCG-the SW franchise is at the whim of Hasbro/Asmodee and quality has been a bit short from FFG. The recent release of Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game gives promise to the TCG, but I'm not holding my breath. I will say this is something I want to be totally wrong about as I still have my SW:CCG collection by Decipher, Inc., which I enjoyed.

Another one? Really? FFG is the poor man's shadow of the greatness board game company it once was. Such a shame...

Two things: 1. You spend all that money on the license and on new art, and you don’t spring for 59 seconds of John Williams’ music? 2. Yay… more tokens. In a card game.

The artwork and graphic design will be this game’s downfall I’m afraid. Just doesn’t feel like an FFG game.

I'm going to pass on Star Wars: Unlimited Profits. Does FFG not realize this game's design is 30 years old? Not a single innovative mechanic in sight. We've seen attack vs defense card games since the 90's.

Unlimited but its limited to the original trilogy.

My guess is that it will start with the original trilogy with the core set/wave. But then expand to the prequels, sequels, and everything in between with other waves

@@skinflutey Kids do not constitute the "whales" that these games rely upon to survive. That's my only point. The "prey" in this scenario are adults with thousands of dollars in expendable income. I refuse to believe that people who spend hundreds of dollars on a product they want are victims. I do not believe it. And neither should you because it encourages these people to do anything they want in the moment and have no accountability. They can just blame the company. Hope that makes sense. I hope you feel this was productive and not reductive.

Shame it's not an LCG like Marvel champions. Wish it had been about Clone Wars, Rebels and Mandalorian as getting tired of the same old Star Wars characters being trotted out.

Totally agree that we should have gotten clone wars! FFG just cant get away from the galactic civil war. But I don't think the LCG model works for competitive games. The only LCGs that are still around are Co-op games.
