I totally agree with everything you said. He is amazing yet disappointing at the same time. I just assumed there would be a place for the extra face plate. The weapon storage has been an issue with a lot of figures in the line. But to miss that on a soldier is criminal. I’m a little disappointed that they won’t confirm this character as old man Rex. But it is also cool to leave it up to the individual’s head canon as well. So I’m going with that’s Rex. Lol.

I agree on basically everything you say in this video. And I have a feeling that most others do as well. Such an expensive figure they know we want to army build, Shame on you Hasbro. So naturally I had to have two..... shame on me. :-)

I always enjoy your reviews mate. I agree with your assessment of the figure, but it’s still a welcome addition. I’m an American living in the U.K. and as such we don’t seem to have as much of an issue with figures and preorders. I had him preordered a month before he arrived from Star Action Figures here. They do deliver to the U.S. and sometimes we get figures before the U.S. looking forward to the next review mate, cheers!😁

I’m pretty sure it will go on sale somewhere. Two are enough for me. Spot on with backpack. I am modifying one of the packs to see if I can dremel enough out to put the extra head inside. I’ll look for Endor Han to go on sale too for his jacket. It’s a good figure. It’s just not as fun as it could have been.

It will be replacing Star Wars Black Series as the scratch for my 1/12th scale sci fi itch. I’m with you, if I’m going to pay deluxe or premium prices, I would like premium sculpt, paint, and accessories.

I did not expect to like Cosmic Legions as much as I do. Olek Thygar may be my figure of the year.

Like you said, since they reused the blasters, I think repacking the preexisting Hoth rebel’s goggles and bandana would’ve added more value and customization, even if they don’t fit

I would like to see a second version with the full jacket as well, but not at the price of this one. After the Hoth Trooper, this feels overpriced. If it was at the regular release price I would be more likely to buy a couple. I have at least three, perhaps four of the Hoth Trooper. As it is, the one I have will be my Endor Rex. Thanks for the review Mike. Always enjoy listening to your take on figures.

I love the figure I hate the price. I feel like you get more with the hoth rebel soldier, then you do with the Endor . Also with the hoth rebel soldier, you can mix-and-match 16 different luxe. This guy only gives you two, which is great, because I only need to buy two and not multiples. I got one and I’m just waiting till I see one in the stores to get the other. Great video as always. I've been putting off getting this figure because of everything you've mentioned but finally got him today at gamestop thanks to 3000 points I had, being a pro member & getting 10% off for a slightly damaged package. After tax he was just under $28. Not great but don't want to miss out

All I am missing is a holster for the blaster. I don't have to add every weapon to the figure but one should be possible at least.

I have heard that paint apps are expensive. So that's the reason Hasbro add bugger all to most of their figures! The knees look atrocious when bent. Like you said Mike they could've been cast in one of his trousers/pants colours. They have metallic plastics. Why not cast the weapons in one of those? Going back to the "deluxe" price. Jada Toys addded shade paint to the bodies and clothes of their Street Fighter figs. Two sets of hands. Two heads and an effect piece. Now that's value for £25/$25.

Yeah, I would guess that the street fighter license isn’t nearly as pricey as the Star Wars one is. But I’m not gonna take away from how great Jada is doing with those SF toys.

Totally fair assessment! I'm still glad to have it because it's OT and a rebel soldier...but I would've bought two right away as opposed to just being satisfied with one if they would've just took those details a little further. -Justin

I will go ahead and vote I like having the figure over paying the little bit extra to have it. It's far from perfect, but at the end of the day I look over and smile when I see him in my collection.

I ordered 5 Hoth Rebel Soldiers. I only ordered 2 of these. It's hard to believe Hasbro set the bar so high with the first ones that they would drop the ball so badly on these. New management, I guess...

Hello Mike thanks for sharing your thoughts on this new "deluxe" Return of the Jedi figure. I believe he was only available for preorder on BBTS, at least that's where I preorder mine from. I completely agree with your assessment of this figure's good and bad points. I myself call BS on Hasbro for not being able to make this "deluxe" figure compatible with the Hoth figure face plates and vice versa. I also have only purchased one of this figure so far, I hope that I'll find a second at a fair price, because this "deluxe" figure is over priced for what Hasbro has chosen to include with him. No storage for the alternate face plate and no weapon storage, not even a strap for keeping the rifle on his shoulder, wow. Thanks Mike for putting this video together for us. I always appreciate your reviews and thoughts on Black Series figures. Take care, Tom

Thank you for at least acknowledging that the large amount of paint and the complexity of the paint on the pants is what makes this figure deluxe. I am so sick of seeing the community refuse to recognize that paint costs money and it is one part of a figure that can contribute to a higher price point - especially in todays figure lines which pretty much are just colored body parts across the board with barely any paint on them at all. I think the piece count is there on this figure as well. 2 faces. 2 guns. a backpack. And a bandolier. That’s a decent piece count. The bandolier is removeable so in my mind that is definitely an accessory and basically replaces the scarf and goggles from the hoth trooper. The lack of face storage is frustrating as is the inability of swapping the faces with the both trooper. No arguing there. But when I look at standard black series figures now that have basically NO paint on them this figure stands out to me. He’s an upgraded figure because he is PAINTED. he just looks nicer on the shelf than most modern black series figures. I understand what you are saying with the cosmic legion figure but as you know that line isn’t losing license Fees per figure to an IP owner like Disney so they don’t have to account for that in their MSRP to meet their margins. the comparison is not apples to apples. I do agree with you that Perhaps hasbro should consider pricing deluxe black series even higher and even adding more to them. I would pay more to get more, but I have to admit with the amount of whining and complaining from most in the community at even the $33 price point, I don’t think higher price points would go over well with the majority of collectors. I think this is a shame personally.

Yep, that response is exactly why I wanted to make this video. Paint is pricy because it involves both materials AND labor. I think you’re probably right about the parts count, I just think the package over all of the Endor soldier is “messier” than the Hoth rebel soldier so it’s harder to keep it into perspective. Not making the faces compatible was a huge miss. I would have bought 4 has I had Hoth faces as an option. I also know that the Mythic Legions/black series comparison wasn’t apples to apples. But I was mostly using it to get at the fact that I would have 100% paid $40 if they could have fleshed out some of those perceived cut corners. Over all, i think your assessment largely matches my own. And despite my critiques of this figure, I still really like it. It looks amazing on the shelf and looks great when paired with others.

@@MikeKaess yup. Agreed. Like you, I’d be extremely pleased if the black series went a bit higher end like the mythic legions stuff even if the price went north of $40. I think TVC has pretty much caught up with black series in almost every respect and I’d be fully supportive of the black series really making a leap to get back to the “comprehensive, ultimate version” level for Star Wars characters like it was originally conceived as. I think it’s lost some of that at this point.

So I still like the figure, but some of my dislike may be on me. Like I got toooo excited in my own head. Then I opened him and I was ummm Oh this is it. I like him but kinda plain. Boy if he came with wrist gauntlets that would have been epic. His knees are rough. I got one. But I will wait on a second if I miss out on a 2nd I will live. I don't regret getting him but does not live up to my personal hype. The potential of this figure is what's hard for me. Great review Mike.

I agree. I’ve got five or six Hoth rebel troopers there the best. The Endor trooper a huge let down. I feel like they thought they would bank on this troooper since the hoth trooper did so well but then they gave us less and charged more. Im not not getting five of them unless there on clearance. Lol

I think I'll wait for some type of sale, there's just no way to justify the price when it seems to be a downgrade from the hoth rebel soldier. They should have molded the legs in a green color to eliminate the knee problem but it looks like they cheaped out with that too

I dunno if it’s cheap to mold the legs in gray over green. I don’t think one color of plastic would cost more than another. I think it was just a bad choice.

It bugs me he has dark hair on the back of his head at the bottom of the helmet which looks out of place when the rex face is on

Great Review

These are all solid arguments. However, as soon as you showed that bearded face, I fell down and ordered him right away. My brain simply stops working when seeing anything Clone/Star Wars Temuera Morrison related. And this guy, in a sense, belongs into that category.

At 1.29 you actually spat on him such was your disappointment.

I hate the revisionism in modern Star Wars. They keep messing with the cool, mysterious badass characters from the OT. Boba Fett's a clone, Nik Sant is a clone, Palpatine is a clone.. Chewie knew Yoda, Darth Vader built C3P0.. 😝

I talked about this on a Black Series Cantina episode. It’s weird to think how many current Star Wars fans just don’t know what it was like not knowing anything about Boba Fett. He was a mysterious character who has a cool mystique about him.
