I remember watching this episode for the first time, literally yelling at the TV "Do it Crosshair! Kill him!"

I love how crosshair got the lieutenant's attention before killing him so he knew he was killed by the clone.
I straight up lol'ed at you talking about the lieutenant's punchable face. When we first watched this ep, my friend said, "Do you think they had production meetings where Filoni just said, 'No. Go back and make it more punchable.' ..." 🤣
Crosshair _is_ the ice vulture. "They find a way to survive." Crosshair has always survived alone throughout many awful experiences. But much like any bird, he's safer and better off among a flock. The best part of this imagery is that shot at 12:08 where Crosshair shoots Nolan. The shadows of the rock formations behind him look almost like wings coming from Crosshair himself.

its a little more twisted than that. The ice vulture is a scavenger, and is waiting for Crosshair to leave so he can eat Mayday...

@@claytonepich2132 What you're saying is true on a technical level but I think you've missed the point I was (and by extension the showmakers were) making.

@@Xackadeeif that was the point then it is easy to miss My take away, as was hinted at earlier in the episode, is that the sight of the ice culture makes crosshair realise the Empire will literally leave mayday to the vultures, and will do the same figuratively to any other clone, which pushes him over the edge, you can see him become enraged at the sight of it's shadow. It seemed like he was going to begrudgingly comply before that realisation.

@@RB_Eldritch See, I think that's probably absolutely true as well. There's no reason the vulture can't serve multiple purposes and the versatility of interpretation for it is part of what makes this episode so so good.

The symbolism of the ice vulture feels like a major hint to Crosshair's final fate in S3. He'll survive the show but at a very high price. He could very well be the last Batcher standing besides Omega - if they don't kill her off.
The music The animation The writting The Redemption This episode is superb, not for nothing Dee Bradley Baker said this episode is one if his favorites

"Mayday's awesome!" Attention to order! Salute!
4:30 Crosshair’s sniper rifle is equipped with Thermal scope or optic that detects heat signature. Making it super easy to see any visible targets at night. These exist & are frequently used by the military. Very expensive to buy those things. We do have Night Vision Goggles but also for military. Very expensive as well. Both can’t withstand bright light sources such as fire, explosions or just turning on the lights. Any bright source will blind & disorient the eyes of anyone wearing either thermal or night vision. Not fun. The fact that his sniper scope can magnify for any snipers to zoom in on their target & something like that happens while using thermal or night vision, will hurt the eyes. Never use them during the day.
How it began: "Good soldiers follow orders." Where we're at now: "We're good soldiers. We followed orders. And for what?" Leave it to a "kids show" to ask serious questions about the use of force in geopolitics.
One way to see the ice vulture is as a symbol for the Marauder. His brothers are still there, and they would be there for him. His past life with the Bad Batch still throws a shadow he can't escape.

The ice vulture represents Crosshair
@sicarii545

for me it represented the opposite of what crosshair was. in the beginning mayday says there viscous but always find a way to survive. and that's opposed to the ideology of sacrificing everything for an empire that hates you. Crosshair might be a sociopath but he's still human and the ice vulture is what he became in this episode. the "bigger picture" attitude didn't work for him when he realized him as an individual and everyone who has shown him true kindness hates it. he might believe in the empire but he also is not a robot and realized he had no place in it
this eps and the ones to come are so good.
Casual Avalanche would be a great band name!
no, it’s so good to have *you* here! This one’s an absolute banger
Love how her first reaction to Nolan was "he has a very punch-able face" like preach
Vultures are scavenger birds, the fact they were circling the base of clones was an excellent medifore for the the clones losing everything. As for Mayday, RIP, his line about following orders still hurts. He was an ARC trooper like Rex and Cody meaning he served a Jedi and the fact he was alive meant the general he served was dead. All of those clones looking for meaning and validation after all they endured and suffered only to be abandoned is the empires greatest crime.
The problem is that those do happen in real life. There are usually 2 kinds of officers. 1 who plays with his/her ego & is more authoritative. The other who’s willing to cooperate & treat his/her subordinates fairly. These Clones have been through real combat vs someone fresh out of the academy or college who’ve never been in real combat situation. Yes, Military Academy is a college specialized for military purposes that also does exist in our world. However, if we can’t respect the man, respect the rank at least. The prejudice/racism/disrespect towards Clones does make sense after the Emperor gave the speech about them inflicting carnage without hesitation. Wiped out a whole civilization and Clones are blamed for that which I think why LT. Nolan treated them as such. Making Clones the ones to fear in the eyes of everyone only to question their safety because of what they did to Kamino. Who would wanna trust Clones after they did something like that? Given that the whole world knows about this twisted truth.

IMO there is a lot of filler in TBB but this was my favourite episode of Bad Batch so far. Crosshair's reasons for betrayal were entirely justified and well written.

You need to see/read All Quiet on the Western Front, which directly inspired this episode.
The previous episode felt more like Aliens rather than ghosts to me
While some reactors will watch the 'spinoff' ( for lack of a better word) shows, I was happy just watching the movies. I guess my only exception was the Obi-Wan series.
These Crosshair episodes reminded me so much of that great Rebel's episode in which Kallus and Zeb were stuck on an ice planet together, sowing the first real doubts for Kallus. This one was much more drastic, and some of the best media in Star Wars overall imo.
Nope, That ice vulture is waiting for crosshair to leave so he can eat Mayday.
Will You record s3
10:15 - Emme: "If you took a shot every time I said Ice Vulture, you'd be in the hospital by now." Me: "You underestimate my power!"
I just want to make a point beyond this show. The redemption arc here is a terrible human affliction that we all suffer from. The desire to forgive evil. Someone as evil as crosshair can do hundreds of evil things, yet he does one good, and we want to forgive him. How about all the innocents he murdered? On the other hand when someone good makes one mistake we hold it against them for the rest of their lives. You see this in personal relationships and in politics all the time. Voters are eager to vote for the worst candidate after they do one good deed, but a candidate who had never done anything wrong, but then makes one mistake, is vilified and hated for the rest of their life. This is why we have so much evil in the real world. We are too eager to forgive the evil, while too harsh on the good. And it's caused us thousands of years of misery and suffering.
