Shadows of the Empire Synopsis
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire is a 1996 multimedia project created by Lucasfilm. The idea was to create a story set between the films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and to explore all commercial possibilities of a full motion picture release without actually making a film. The venture was intended to reinvigorate interest in the franchise ahead of the theatrical Special Editions of the Star Wars trilogy released the following year.
Several products were released, including a novel, a junior novelization, a comic book series, a video game, a soundtrack, trading cards, role-playing games, posters, model kits, Micro Machines toys, statuettes, vinyl dolls, and a series of action figures and vehicles.[1] The story introduces Rebel ally Dash Rendar, who aids the heroes in their attempt to liberate the frozen Han Solo from bounty hunter Boba Fett. Meanwhile, Darth Vader continues the search for his son, Luke Skywalker, whom crime lord Prince Xizor attempts to kill in his plot to replace Vader at the side of Emperor Palpatine.

The PC version of this game has some very, VERY wonky controls. As such, I struggle quite a bit each time something new is introduced and gradually get better. Like walking forward for example. And looking up and down. Don't even get me started on the space combat controls, lol. None of it works as you think it would or should. Also, the cut scenes are oddly in the top left hand corner of the screen. It says before you fire this bad boy up that setting the game above a certain resolution would do that. But even setting the resolution at the recommended setting did nothing to stop it. Anyway. I hope you, whoever you may be, enjoy the walkthrough regardless. Although a more accurate description may be a fall through. Since I'm stumbling most of the time. lol

I pulled this game out on 64 today just to play it again and all the childhood memories came back lol however watching this I'm wishing I would've played it on PC it looks totally different the music is the same but it's like the actual music from the movie not just a short clip of it. Graphics 1000% better. Only bad thing I have to say about this game is they should've provided more ammo for the weapons especially pulse and seekers throughout the levels it's too rare to enjoy the weapons you do get. I understand making the disrupter rounds rare but not the others.

My brother got an N64 for his 14th birthday in October ‘96. I was 17 and some of the best memories I have with him are late night gaming sessions on SOTE. The 90s with something of a golden era for a lot of Star Wars games on PC and console, having played Rebel Assault, X-Wing and Dark Forces and the SNES “Super” Trilogy in the years prior. Jedi Knight would drop the following year in my senior year of high school and most of the games after that were a distinct drop in quality. The graphics and gameplay may be a bit dated now, but the level of immersion, and all of these games, was incredibly heightened by the fact, they replicated the original film soundtrack perfectly, which is a huge part of the experience. My brother and I are 45 and 41 respectively, and for his 40th I was able to track down an old N 64 and this game. A lot of great memories revisited!

Believe it or not, I still have an N64 and after all these years, I play them once in a while. My daughter and fam are amazed how well I've kept them up regarding the condition especially since I've had it more than 20+ years, plus all the games I mentioned above. I keep everything well maintained with a special monitor to boot, as well as PC CD backups I've made of everything until the old system finally goes kaput. Especially since it was in the early days of 3D engines. Even after these 2+ decades those ship models still look pretty good. I would carry on that tradition with Star Was Battlefront and Battlefront 2. There's just something really fun about playing on Hoth.

I love Star Wars. Now, to me Star Wars is a metaphor for life. It's story centers around the dysfunctional relationship between a father and his son. The other story at play rotating around that central story is the conflict between society, and individual personified in the movie as the light side and the dark side of the force. I love this game. I always will. I always come back to it. For some reason. But, you know. I think the reason why I come back to it is because I am unsettled in my own life. I think people love Star Wars, and video games in general because it gives them an excuse, escape from reality, so that they don't have to work at there lives but can just win in video games. Regardless, I love this rendition of Star Wars. It feels so Star Wars to me, even though it has hardly any Star Wars characters. I think Star Wars should have just made movies of this game, based on the lore, and others, rather than make weird story lines that don't make sense, like from Disney. George Lucas, should take back his rights to the franchise, and create some more memorable movies. He can do it if he wants to! Man, I love this game....

Here's a thing: for some reason I love so many of the sound effects in this game. And I don't have that for any other game since. I don't even know if that's the right way to put it, they simply stuck with me all my life. To this day, I still sometimes randomly just hear the AT-ST walk in my head like a song. I love the sound of the blaster hitting an object. The main reason I prefer the Outrider over the Falcon, is the heavy, effin relentless sound of the turrets and the grinder-like cruise of its engines. There is something so activating and satisfying about all of these, like hearing a mean vintage car flooring it. /weird memory fetishes ... Yeah, I guess that was some sort of breakthrough telling somebody :) Have a peaceful day everybody

BONUS HOT TAKE: Anyone else think that Dash' design looks a lot more "complete" with the jetpack? Plus with his multitool-blaster, that it would have made him a lot more unique to make him sort of a good guys' equivalent to Boba Fett, rather than Han Solo? If you think about it, Kyle katarn also has that cocky smuggler personality, but the differenence in how he "operates" sorta makes him stand out from Han, even before his connection to the force. Okay, these were all my old thoughts from school about this game :)

Alot of these old games have the FPS tied to the physics. I didn't have to do anything for this particular run to work. However, I want you to try something. Go into your video card settings, should be able to right click right on the desktop and you should see Nvidia control panel or whatever graphics card you use. From there you should be able to apply forced video settings for particular programs. Find Shadows of the Empire and force it to run at 30FPS. See if that works. I wish I could break it down step by step better than that but I just don't know what kind of set up you have.
