One thing about the Naboo Starfighter in the original Rogue Squadron on N64: you did not have access to that ship at launch! You didn't get to see the Naboo Starfighter six months early. The original run of cartridges produced required you to enter two codes to unlock the NSF. Those codes weren't published until after the Phantom Menace came out in theaters. It was absolutely shocking in 1999 to find out the game I've had for months had a whole ship on the cartridge that nobody knew about! Even people using GameSharks didn't find the ship until the code was revealed to the public. After the codes were revealed online, they produced more cartridges for the game, and the new cartridges had the NSF already unlocked and didn't require any codes.

I swear no one mentions that you can play as a TIE Interceptor in Rogue Squadron 1. NO ONE! XD

The Naboo N-1 Starfighter hidden in the first game was badass. The fact that it didn’t get revealed until 6 months after the release of Rogue Squadron 1-coinciding with The Phantom Menace releasing

In rogue squadron 1 when wedge gets captured by the tie fighter I flew around the map for a long time looking for him and was genuinely upset to have lost wedge. The next couple of missions where you have to save him from the prison train I was so ready for revenge and to get my wingman back! I would have been around 8 or 9 when playing the game and remember how much I loved it. I was stuck on the level where you have to bring down the at-at with the snow speeder for like a week or two and my dad who had never played video games even tried to help me lol. Such good memories.

Wow that is crazy! I had a very similar experience on that snow speeder level. I remember my dad trying to help me too! Such good memories indeed!

@@ithinkitsvizbi that's pretty cool, it's a memory that really stands out for me because of my dad being a stand offish guy who certainly wasn't into video games. After seeing me very upset after my 15th time of failing, while I was at school the next day he tried for a couple hours to get it as well. He never did manage it lol but I appreciated him trying to help.

Oh yeah rogue squadron for N64 was hella fun. I even rented it plenty of times before buying it back in the blockbuster days. It was one of the best star wars games ive ever played.

20:32 this level was in the mario kart bonus disc and totally loved it. This game was my third or fourth game in the gamecube, and like 10 years later y could play rogue leader. Good and simpler times

14:50 That feature actually originated in Battle for Naboo which is basically a fourth Rogue Squadron game.

You know, you don't actually have to use the cheat codes to get the special stages and ships in Rogue Squadron 1 (except the buick.) The special stages unlock as you get medals. The Beggar's Canyon race unlocks if you get all bronze medals or above. The Death Star mission Unlocks if you get all Silver Medals or above. The Hoth mission unlocks if you get all Gold Medals. And if you Gold Medal all the bonus missions *too,* you get access to *all* the ships in *all* the stages. Except the Speeder, Hovertrain, and Taloraan missions, where the Speeder is essential, the train requires an Ion Cannon, and Taloraan has no ground for speeders to hover on. Beyond those instances though, take an X-Wing into a Y-Wing level and a Speeder into an X-Wing level. Hell, the Y-Wing levels are no longer Y-Wing levels. It's just regular levels and Speeders. Also, there's a cheat that takes you to a level where you play as an AT-ST, years before Rogue Squadron 3 made it a core mechanic.

I really love the first game. I was a kid in the 90s and was about 12 when I bought a copy in 1999. I must have sank hundreds of hours into those missions and now, I can pretty much beat them through muscle memory. I am barely playing Rogue Squadron 2 as an adult and it's pretty frickin rad! X-wings are my favorite ship, followed very closely with the snow/airspeeder.
