So, just imagine a destroyer skipper, but now also add in the droid's complete lack of survival instinct for itself or crew. You aren't giving a reason why the droid brain wasn't needed, your showing why they want the droid brain. You know, until they start losing too many ships to overly-aggressive droid brains ramming friendly ships.

A sapient skipper would be able to use their life experience and understanding to discern when it's time to hit hard and fast to best survive, and when it's time to sacrifice oneself to achieve a war-shortening objective. He would also be able to reassure his crew that he is capable of making these sorts of choices. With a purpose-built AI calling the shots, their ship might as well be a manned missile from the crew's perspective.

It is because the Clone Wars movies and TV series are all Imperial Propaganda. Much like how the Original Trilogy is Rebellion Propaganda. All because you are viewing a conflict mostly from one side of the war. And reason why much of the comics that covered both eras are seen as non-canon. Because they attempt to give a perspective from both sides and try to level the playing field. To show how much the Republic was a lot more evil and willing to go to war. Than, the CIS and other allies that would join. To the Empire being rather justice to a sense and offered stability to worlds that were once nothing but war. Still, Empire is still Evil. All because they enslaved the Wookies...bastards.

How so?? The CIS Navy was a coalition of gigacorporate vessels who happened to have a similar trait, they could be largely or entirely crewed by droids. Each member had thousands of their own ships to form the backbone of their combined navy. Additional ship types were commissioned once the CIS was formed. The sum of all these vehicles contrasted with the Republic Navy which had fewer standardized designs in smaller numbers.

Stuff like that is iterative in the real world and Star Wars, and makes waaaaay more sense than the ships scaled up with almost the exact same hull. But when you do start including all the variant ships like the Tector, Imp 1 & 2, and so on that are created because of inconsistencies in the lore, we start getting more ship types than one person could feasibly keep track of, and that’s just funny to me lolol

According to Labyrinth of Evil, the droid brain isn't a universal feature: some Recusants are fully-automated, others partially-automated, some commanded entirely by biological crew. My guess is that this is some combination of local foundries constructing ships according to available resources, and intended mission profile for the ship in question: direct, aggressive tactics were certainly within the remit of the Recusant, but the Commerce Guild also employed them as punchy raiders and privateers, a role in which more tactical initiative is a valuable trait.

As much as I loved the ship, I wish the Clone Wars series didn't have such a huge version of this ship (the dreadnought version of it) that could pound Venators with ease. They should have just used the Lucrehulks as the giant lumbering warships and heavy hitters (they already had the Malevolence as well). The CIS had way too many big ships when we saw nothing but Venators on the other side. I don't see any harm in Greivous using a Lucrehulk as a command ship to pour starfighters and withering fire against a few Venators. Meanwhile, the smaller Recusants would just be another escort ship to provide backup and more firepower against the Republic.

No matter how well trained, a crew numbering in the hundreds or even thousands isn’t going to operate nearly as smoothly or efficiently as a single automated entity would at controlling a warship, not to mention crew populated areas of a ship tend to be massive targets for enemy attacks, as to hinder the operations of the ship, something an automated warship like this doesn’t have to worry about

irl they are multi-role vessels, in fleets they useually form the defensive screen (as was their orginal purpose, which is why they are called destroyers. its a shortening of torpedo boat destroyers. ofcaurse nowdays they are primarily AA and anti-submarine screens, aswell as intercepting other destroyers). they are also used as reconnaissance vessels and for harassing the enemy fleet in general. in modern navies destroyers are also adopting the roles of cruisers as line ships, but this is more because of the dominance of airpower at the moment making line ships less important and thus not worth investing in a dedicated lineship, than destroyes beng better line ships than cruisers.

Huh, it predates the Clone Wars? Always thought it's one of the few vessels comissioned for the CIS. I mean a destroyer has rather little use for a corporation (outside of war in general). I frigate (Munificent) makes more sense in this context.

@LennoxPoodle that is legends lore, in legends it was a joint effort of zealous techno union separatists and free dac volunteers engineering useing commerceguild resources alongside tech stollen from the mon calarmari, specifically for the clone wars. a large number of them were also paid for by thousands of non-corporate worlds quote "eager to defend their independence." in disney canon they retconned it into a pre-clone wars ship without an explanation as to why it was ordered or how it was used pre-war. although we can assume pirate hunting.

It was that mindset that got Count Dooku killed in the end and that is he lost all hope after he learned that Jinn was killed by Darth Maul(The future Emperor's apprentice at the time). I was never a fan of the Recusant Class of the CIS to be honest.

Honestly, not much of a fan of this design, I like most separatist ship designs (Lucrehulk, Providence, Subjugator, etc.) but this one and to a lesser extent the Munificent don't really do it for me, they're just a bit too bulky and vulnerable for what their roles are intended to be, though notably the Munificent is better at its intended role than the Recusant.

The Recusant-class light destroyer first appeared in the 2005 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. The starship was later first identified in the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Complete Vehicles, published by Dorling Kindersley.

So the Recusant class destroyer's armor is only front mounted to facilitate slugging it out with their opponents. Which is nice and all if you and your opponents are fighting on a narrow 2 dimensional plane, but they're fighting in space where it's easy to reposition yourself in 3 dimensions. Did the designers ever leave their planets?

that's just how things *are* in star wars, a lot of ship designs don't make sense for operating in a three-dimensional space. why do star destroyers need such massive bridges? that design made sense during the time of battleships here on earth, as it allows for a greater range at which you can visibly spot your opponent, but it makes no sense in space.

if the enemy can move so can you... (plus shields exist in star wars). space has plenty of space to maneuver. if the enemy attacks from the top or bottom you don't even have to turn to face them, just reverse and they will be in your frontal arc again.

it does have armour on the rear, just less armour. (and shields are a thing in star wars). its actually dumb to put equal ammounts of armour all around your ship. extra weight and cost that you have to lug around that only comes into use when you fuck up badly.
