Well, by this point the Rebels still had yet to kill Brom Titus and Slavin, who I guess is more average-ish than the rest of the Lothal command staff. Slavin at least succeeded under Thrawn’s command, while Konstantine, and later Skerris would fail horribly.

Yeah, it's a shame how the other rebels are portrayed. Many of the clones were recognisable, but these guys are just canon fodder. There numbers are also so inconsistent, it kinda feels like there's 20 'random rebels' in the entire phoenix squadron.

@@raddishone92 Separatist victories were often off-screen, sadly. More on-screen victories would have added to making the Clone Wars feel like a truely titanic war. The seemingly endless tug-of-war between the Republic and the Separatists often only got passing mention, we just get Republic victories on screen 99% of the time.

Good tactics on Thrawn here, using fighters to harrass the capital ships and bait them into getting closer to his larger ships, where they can easily be destroyed. Plus, they have to get past his big ships anyways to get to their Hyperspace jump-point, the fighter attacks just remove the option for the Rebels to simply stay put and wait for reinforcements.

Star Destroyers have the same problem with their main batteries beeing made to hit big, slow targets... not frigates beeing close to them and moving fast.

This rebel fleet sucks ass by EAW standards. The Rebel fleets I fought in the Imperial campaign were able to down ISDs in their sleep; I usually had to bring in reserve ISDs or use Vader and the TIEs wisely to bring them down. These guys are a joke. Thrawn defeating them isn't a sign of his genius, it's a juggernaut stomping out ants.

Don't forget that with their shields down, their critical systems are vulnerable to attack once their armor is bypassed. We know that Dodonna said his ships were already under heavy fire. It's likely we were only shown the killing blows on his flagship before he evacuated.

Only access to the hyperspace lane is through the blockade. If they tried going any other direction, they would expose the rebel's ship weak points. But head on is harder to hit.

Well, I would say that this makes sense....but in the films, how often did Han Solo randomly seem to 'attempt' to jump into hyperspace out of desperation? OK, so his hyperdrive was out most of the time, but it's not like he tried to fly to a certain point in space to get into a 'lane', he just tried to activate it asap.

1:12 this is why the rebels lost. They made a tactical descision to switch their shield generators for marshmallows and let their ships get destroyed after one crappy TIE barrage.

Was it really?? The rebel fleet was being harassed by bombers and running out of fighter support. The empire had an interdictor preventing then from fleeing. I think he did the right call as eventually the bombers would churn out most ships. The rebel fleet pushing the interdictor at healthy capacity to create an opening for their escape was the best choice imo.

the nebulon b frigates are no match for the star destroyers,the mc80 and the b wings yes,check the battle of endor,the battle of scarif or the missions of rogue squadron 2 and 3 ,the nebulon b just are supports in the battle

Nebulon-B are frigate with more than 30 turbolasers turrets (they're escort-class vessels). Correlian corvettes have 6. 3 Nebulons would make an ISD's shields have a run for it's money and CR-90 SHOULD be able to manage a few Tie fighters given that's the role OF A CORVETTE. Given that the the rebels had a bomber wing (that they sent without any support), they COULD have at least taken one Star Destroyer (I suppose those are Victory I class) if the animators had any budget. It's just a shame that STAR WARS doesn't know how to make a good space battle anymore.

Nope. There are 6 Imperial Star Destroyers and 2 Interdictors, with a couple of smaller Imperial ships (I believe they were Arquiten-Class Light Cruisers). Since the strongest warship-threatening ships they had were Nebulon B Frigates (which were barely a 10th of the size of a Star Destroyer), the Y-Wings, and the Ghost, the most the Rebels could do is take out the light cruisers. Everything else could barely take on the TIE Fighters.

I think the real reason is that the show writers are too lazy to put the effort in to it or WORSE their ships don't actually have guns.

This is one of the *only* exceptions of me watching Star Wars Rebels... when Thrawn arrives and doesn't use *Imperial Disney Employee* tactics. He actually isn't afraid to start absolutely WRECKING the Ghost Crew and its rebel cell... Thank Heavens Thrawn was introduced, as us fans now have at least 1 person to look forward to in Star Wars Rebels.

"I hope Kanan has better luck than we do." Seriously Ezra, you still make a joke after seeing a ship full of your own allies get killed like that. Not even Ahsoka when she was younger would say something like that.

Thrawn must really know Sato’s playbook very well in order to counter and inflict close to 90% casualties. Thrawn knew Sato was going to try and bait his capital ships in order to leave the interdictors lightly guarded which creates an opening of escape. By forcing Sato to come to him and with fighters harassing the frigates (not cruisers), Thrawn essentially checkmated the battle before it began. I doubt this tactic will work if the enemy has an equivalent ship type or is very numerous or both.

who in their right mind would charge the blockade full of capital ships when you can't have any of your own? it would've been smarter to pull back and strike them when they were pre occupied with attacking the base.

thrawn could/would have had them all if it wasn't for constantine's stupidity it's like thrawn said all you have to do is hold your position and we got this in the bag and tarkan's prisoner request wasn't doing him any favors BUT constantine's death does give an opening for Gilad Pellaeon after this thrawn would want/Demand someone that he can trust to run a fleet command enter...the man we've been begging for since thrawn was brought in

The battle of Atollon: A battle between the rebellion and the empire with a few star destroyers and a small rebel fleet. The empire mops the stars with the rebels

Most rebel capital ships can't stand toe to toe with Imperial Star Destroyers for long. is this before the Mon Calamari start supplying them with cruisers?

yes,check the battle of scarif,with all the efforts and all the rebel fleet they fight against two victory 1-star destroyers and barely they won,in this battle Thrawn has 5 victory 1 star destroyers and 2 interdictors against 3 nebulon-B,6 corellian corvettes,3 hammerhead corvettes and 3 braha'tok gunships,they have no fuckin chance to win

Small correction: all 6 of these are Imperial Class, and same as the ones on Scarif. Why would they leave their precious vaults guarded by Victory Classes?

The only safely scouted way off the planet is blocked by the imperials tho. you have a lower than 1% survival rate if you jump to FTL speeds for hours on end. That's why they have navcomputers and astromechs, so that pilots don't fuck up and send their ship into a star. For the rebels it was either fight the imperial fleet (almost certain death) or jump randomly (certain death). Besides, Nebulon-Bs are warships, just not good enough to beat 5 ISDs in close formation.

This reminds me of the Obra-Skai (sp?) battle that opened Heir to the Empire, in terms of how one-sided it was, and how chill Thrawn is.

As a huge fan of the space battle over Endor, this is painful to watch the Rebel Fleet get owned.

I never got why the rebellion was so insistent on tying themselves to planetside bases, do their day-to-day operations need them to maintain a PO Box or something? You've got giant fuck off space carriers; just live on the move.

Ah! At last i see the famed efficiency of our men in space!

The producers used clone wars land battle sounds as background sound effects for a space battle and think nobody will notice.
