    We were too. This is exactly what we feared would happen to Ahsoka and Rex when watching the Clone Wars show. At that time, this show didn’t exist. It was a big risk killing off Kanan, but it worked, and it hurt me more than any of the deaths in that trilogy that never existed

    Seeing this just makes me look back and see how WRONG the Jedi Order was during the times of the Republic. You couldn’t be attached to anyone and couldn’t have that love that everyone else has. This is why the Jedi failed- because their code was just unnecessary and just begging for someone to turn against them. Kanan was a true Jedi. He sacrificed himself for the people he cared about, but more importantly, the love of his life.

    While I agree to a point the reason was that earthly attachments like lovers could lead them to the Dark side what promotes more hate and rage than the death of a lover or a child we can look no further than Anakin Skywalker who betrayed the Jedi in part to save Padme’s life. The Jedi made MANY mistakes but for that reason they feared letting their members fall in love

    tiduswordplayer and that’s why the old order thought it was a mistake to recruit older men and women into the order, because they believe those exposed through negative emotions would be exposed to the dark side of the Force. Years before Master Yoda was Grand Master, they allowed Jedi like the former Darth Revan to have a wife. This was during his redemption from his former Sith master, Darth Malak.

    It's more that Anakin's love was possessive. He didn't want to lose Padme, because she was his. The CW's really highlights this. Anakin was a very possessive husband. This is the kind of attachment the Jedi feared among their members. Kanan has a selfless love for Hera and his friends, same with Luke and his friends in the OT.

    Ironically enough, Anakin tapped into the lesson Kanan learned all too well. You can't be selfless if you do not care. Therefore, there can't be sacrifice if there's no love. So no, "the life of a Jedi is sacrifice" in the times of the Republic is bs. They didn't even cared to save two slaves instead of one. And Anakin cared a lot (about people and about his love) when the only people around him were so self absorbed in their doctrine that they couldn't see or couldn't care about his misery. Kanan never fell to the dark side in no small part because he had people that shared his emotions, and could find comfort and support with them.

  • @Cailus3542

    @Cailus3542

    2 ай бұрын

    Anakin's fundamental problem was that his Jedi training and his fundamental spirit were in opposition. He never learned how to "let go of his attachments", mainly because most Jedi never did that either. It was a crucial flaw of the Jedi Order: they were so terrified of the Dark Side that they avoided any attachments at all. The Jedi, by denying that part of themselves, thus had a weakened connection to the Force. At one point in ROTS, Anakin goes to Yoda to ask for help. Yoda, however, had no idea how to help Anakin, so his answer was basically "suck it up". Anakin has nobody to turn to, nobody to guide him or comfort him. He never reconciled his Jedi training and his love for others. It left him a sitting duck for Sidious. Kanan, by contrast, intuitively worked it out. He could still love and have attachments, but he wouldn't let those attachments rule him. It is why, when he foresaw his own death in the Force, he calmly accepted it. As a result, the Force roared through his spirit in the moments before he died, giving him the power to save the ones he loved.
