    "The fans are doing the best work" are, once again, awesome words to hear. This SHOULD put more pressure on the toy companies to produce what people really want and for them to even find their own sense of identity in all of this. I am not into this particular series but...someone is!...and enough to create something on their own. And it looks like they did an amazing job. Just like the Colonial Viper you recently showed (that we're all still salivating over), this was a great video!

    I was about to say exactly what you said & I totally agree! It's sad when companies with 100-1000s of employees & access to millions of dollars put out sub-par items. We all would have to stop buying to put pressure on & I don't know how well that would work. Whether it's toys or movies, fans are truly making the best things for ALL to enjoy! Just look up fan films on here & you'll find such awesome stories like "The Blood Crystal" and more on Mara Jade!

    There’s some cool figures by Hasnotalent, I laughed so hard at that name I nearly wet myself! But seriously, Hasbro has no talent, and this guy’s figures look pretty good, he even made the creature that Mando had to learn to ride.

    You know it was only about a year ago that I finally realized the pop up lightsaber R2-D2 dome is actually a new and significantly different sciulpt to the previous ones, rather than just the original dome with a hole plugged thru it. I too purchased a Stan Solo figure of pop up Lightsaber R2 with the gleaming g vac metal dome and he is an absolute beauty. I actually emailed him begging for a Sensorscope release but he said he has no plans for this (massive bummer as Sensorscope R2 was my favorite figure of the line as a kid...and as an adult that has never quite fully grown up) so I got the pop up saber version, figuring once I repackaged it on the recent Vintage original R2 card that he'd fit in well enough with my Retro Collection since Hasbro has bewilderingly continued to leave out the Droids, the absolute key figures of the entire line IMO!!! Anyway, if you compare domes, the top blue panels are positioned more accurately with the split being directly above his main eye whereas previously a panel was positioned directly above his main eye. Also, directly to his right of his eye (our left) he no longer has a wide blue panel but rather this area is now blank, just chromey dome. To the left of his red and blue eyes (presumably meant to represent the processor state light and Holo projector) there is now a new blue panel that is roughly 1/3 the size of the other panels that run round the base of his dome. It's really noticeable if you compare a pop up saber dome directly to a Sensorscope and/or original dome, then it's astounding how different the domes are. The question is Why? Why go to the trouble and expense of resculpting the dome? It's ambit more accurate but only just and one assumes it is the single piece dome and the necessity of sculpting so the plastic piece could pull out of the mold that led to the extremely stylized dome features that look very different to the actual Droid in the films. This,,combined with the bewildering sticker on his body drove me insane as a kid. Why? Why???? I betvthe simplicity of a single piece dome and simple cylinder tube for his body, but sure,y they could have split the tube into two parts for sculpted body details!!! Now of course these childhood annoyances (grievances?) are all the charm to me as an adult and I have asked a couple times if anyone might do a 1/12 scale, 6" scale R2 D2 in vintage style complete with sticker tube body and chrome vac metalized dome with the same innacurate but cute dome design. He's gotta have the Sensorscope tho! A sort of Black Series R2 D2 Vinateg Retro Collection. I know Gentle Giant did their 12" 1/6 scale blown up (as in increased in size, not torpedoed) figure line,and I swear I came soooo close to buying that R2 and the Early Bird Jumbo Kit. I think a Retro Black Series would be cool and,,let's face it, it's about the only thing Hasbro hasn't tried at this point. The figures would be surprisingly affordable despite the size increase. I wonder if the vac metal is what has kept R2 and 3PO from making their debut in the Retro Collection and tho interesting looking, I will NOT be satisfied if they use the Droids gray plastic dome and ugly sticker R2 for his retro apppearance (tho the colorful C3PO from droids is somewhat morempalatable, we simply must have the classic gleaming gold and chrome dome with blue shining eye and panels and gleaming g white body! And apologies for this novella length post. But hey, why apologize for being a passionate fan? :-)

    Hey Michael! Great to see up close and personal with these figures that you had on your table during your recent live stream! The way I see it there are no down sides when something comes available and up for purchase that will make you happy. The fact that you can pick and choose the characters the way you have and create a customized grouping is great. Right, I was going to say that all we need now to fulfill certain nostalgia goals is an Edward Woodwood figure but I'm sure that someone somewhere has already done it!! My love and support to you, Melinda and the team. Now remember, just because you have a rocket firing Bobafett, there are still to be NO disintegrations!!!!!

    Cool figures. I have one original Droids figure, and that's Uncle Gundy. I don't know why he was the only one I purchased back in the day...but he was it...I never got anymore after that...maybe because I didn't see them in stores, or I moved on and started with other lines of toys. I wouldn't mind seeing some others in this new fan made line...they all look really great.

  • @earthmanbrick

    @earthmanbrick

    Yeah, dude. They often had to have certain ''hooks'' to pull in audiences (like mentioning 'Danger Zone' in the Droids intro, haha). Like certain character types & a ''cutesy comic relief character'' (Snarf in Thundercats, Orco in He-man, Uni in D&D, etc..). It's almost like they wanted a specific formula & wanted to tick certain boxes with every episode being a one-off story. Canon story shows like the Xmen cartoon (from the 90s) almost fell into this trap. Look up 'Pryde of the X-men' to see the pilot episode of what they originally pitched back in the 80s & you'll be glad they decided to go via a different route. But yes, digression aside. Droids & Ewoks were goofy because of the 'box-ticking' executive ideas that had to be thrown into the story. Thankfully we have shows like Clone Wars which are light-years away from the days of animated StarWars past

    It would be Really cool if they made the other characters from The Holiday Special Cartoon. I guess their faces were funny looking, but it would be nice to see them done. That thing about the neck joint. I wish I had understood that when I was little. Almost every figure from the first run had their heads broken off at my house.

    I watched a lot of cartoons back in the 80’s including Droids. It confused me since the droids switch hands with no connection between them. I liked the Mungo story arc best.

    Only thing is the R2D2 sticker is a little off compared to the original, the blue vent in front is a lot shorter from top to bottom and is noticeable, the original blue vent is longer and closer to the bottom, can this be fixed, new sticker?

    I always thought that color déco for Boba Fett as seen in droids looked cool.

    While I appreciate customizers filling in these gaps I do have a problem with those requesting insane cost points. The technology makes this work extremely cheap with the paint being the only real troublesome work. That Cobra Commander custom was insane at 150 bucks.

    I've got the Droids Boba Fett carded but I'd really love the holiday special Boba Fett, does it come on a different card please or is it the original look. I'd love to get the R2D2 carded as it looks totally different to all my other versions of R2, Keep up the quality content team. Regards, David from Manchester, England

    I guess Procustomfigures stopped making the R2-D2 Third Leg? It isn't listed on their website. 😥
