I'm a violinist who's played in a few orchestras all over the world, and lemme tell you, we have a love/hate relationship with John Williams. He writes the most beautiful music that is just the hardest to play. The Harry Potter one, Hedwig's Theme, is one of the hardest I've ever played. Got you playing like a soloist!

Yikes! As much as I love that piece, those Strings and the Celesta just sound way too difficult because it's so dang fast! I'm a keyboard player who plays by ear and their is no way I can do that!

I play clarinet and chuckled when I read your comment. Totally relatable. On a positive note, playing music by John Williams does help get people that typically don't go to an orchestra performance to come and hear us. Then some of those people like it so much they come back to see more performances.

There is a special type of Death Star in the concert. This was the first of the movie/games theme nights. It was hosted by an infamous danish tv-host, who has been doing a game/movie show for many many years. He had his original StarWars LP with him, and entertained throughout.

Love it! Such a beautiful piece of music. Glad to see someone reacting to John Williams. I'm a big fan of his music. A few of my favorites from him are The Imperial March, Jurassic Park, Superman, Indiana Jones. A few years ago my son played in the Middle School band. The band director scheduled their spring concert on May 4 (Star Wars day) and they played a small portion of both the Main Theme, and The Imperial March. It was a great concert.

Star Trek theme was by Alexander Courage for TOS, and Jerry Goldsmith for The Motion Picture and TNG. John Williams wrote the themes for Lost in Space, The Time Tunnel and The Land of the Giants, all Irwin Allen Productions, under the name of Johnny Williams. But that was a long time ago, in a seasonal continuity far far away.

Star Trek The Original Series was scored by Alexander Courage. Star Trek: The Motion Picture came out 2 years after Star Wars, and was scored by Jerry Goldsmith. Goldsmith's theme was also used as the Main Titles for Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Jaws, yes, but John Williams had nothing to do with Star Trek. It's a regular practice for soundtrack creators to be given complete scenes and previews in advance to write for.

John WIlliams has to write 1-2 hours of Music for every scene, of course he gets to see every scene dozens of time. Film Composing is not only composing a fitting Theme its composing hours of Music and matching it to the scenes and the plot. John Williams is a genius.

Just saw Perfection. Pete wrote after touring in America. The whole unrest really got to him. He truly felt that we are all connected...just different souls and better awareness at the time. I saw Journey twice. One concert in 1977 and again with Def Leppard (who blew the roof off) in 2018.

2:38 It is a period of civil wars in the galaxy. A brave alliance of underground freedom fighters has challenged the tyranny and oppression of the awesome GALACTIC EMPIRE. Striking from a fortress hidden among the billion stars of the galaxy, rebel spaceships have won their first victory in a battle with the powerful Imperial Starfleet. The EMPIRE fears that another defeat could bring a thousand more solar systems into the rebellion, and Imperial control over the galaxy would be lost forever. To crush the rebellion once and for all, the EMPIRE is constructing a sinister new battle station. Powerful enough to destroy an entire planet, its completion spells certain doom for the champions of freedom.

When recording the final score for almost any movie, they have theater sized screens in the recording studio to synchrinize their performance . The Danish National Symphony orcheatra also has such a studio and record original music for TV shows and movies from their TV station.

I haven't played in a high-level orchestra, but I played in middle and high school. I can say, this is difficult as all hell. The hardest parts of pieces are soft and quiet portions with really long notes. Those are hell because you'll be holding for upwards of ten measures playing nothing but whole notes, while maintaining embouchure and making sure you don't accidentally let it get too loud. You don't get many places to breathe either, so it's definitely a special kind of pain

Fantastic piece and fantastic orchestra! But I would like to remind you that John Williams (by his own admission) took the theme from the last bars of the beautiful "Symphonic Intermezzo" from Puccini's opera Manon Lescaut... 🙂

Pete was a gentle soul. There was a rift between guitarist Joey. Joey felt a bit jelous of Pete. George Harrison invited Pete to the benefit "Bangladesh" to assist the people there. George admired Pete's musicianship a lot. So Pete wrote "Take It All" in response. He was such an amazing person.

That movie could have kind of fallen flat without the good sound track. That opening music is crucial for setting the whole tone for the movie audience in '77. It blasted it out the window. Would've been horrible if they had just done typical electronic music or something more rock or popish. Rock music is great, but not here.

Star Wars absolutely would not have been the hit it was without the soundtrack. George even talks about all the tiresome re-edits, the feelings of failure, the unsure feelings. Once John’s music came in it took it to a whole other level. The music in Star Wars is at least 50% of the emotion and gravitas
