------------------------
My goal with this project is to build a screen accurate Star Wars Clone Trooper costume. There is a costuming group called the 501st Legion which I am hoping to join to better showcase some of my droid projects. The club has strict costuming guidelines which can be found in their Costume Reference Library. I’m going to use that C.R.L. as a guide along with watching build logs of other clone trooper builders to hopefully be inducted into the 501st Legion.
Is this cosplay? Yes, I guess technically it is. I’ve never considered myself much of the cosplay type but as an art major and someone who has always had a hand in something artistic, the idea of building and painting a costume that I can wear sounds like a project that is right up my alley.
Why clones? Why Commander Bow? Simple. He looks the coolest. I don’t see myself as one of those guys who is going to be building 100 different Star Wars costumes, in fact the idea had NEVER occurred to me until I saw a Facebook image of a 501st Legion member as a Phase 2 clone trooper. I was like “Damn, that’s pretty cool.” Funnily enough, the 501st Legion is named after the exact group of clone troopers that I will be building into….the 501st Legion.
In Star Wars canon, the 501st Legion is the battalion of clone troopers who serve directly under Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and later Lord Vader. All battalions of clone troopers are denoted by color, and the 501st color is blue. You can see them all in Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith storming the jedi temple after order 66.
The blue color of the 501st clone troopers is my favorite look of clone trooper, so it was pretty obvious I was going with them, then once I saw Commander Bow’s macrobinoculars I was sold!
Stay tuned as this series progresses and I work towards being an official member of the 501st Legion!
From Wookiepedia:
"Bow" was the nickname of a clone stormtrooper who served as a commander within the Galactic Empire's 501st Legion. A loyal and obedient soldier, he rose to his rank by around the time of Order 66, which Emperor Palpatine used to brand all Jedi as traitors to the Empire and initiate the galaxy-wide Jedi Purge. One month into the purge, Bow was part of a 501st stormtrooper squad that Clone Commander Appo took to Kessel. There, Bow and his fellow troopers rescued the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader from a batch of Jedi Knights who had survived Order 66. Bow and his comrades gunned down Jedi Masters Jastus Farr, Tsui Choi, and Roblio Darté, executing them in mid-battle with Vader. Following the incident, Bow personally filed reports on several of the Jedi victims, and he continued to serve in the 501st after Appo's death at the Battle of Kashyyyk.

Well done. I super appreciate you taking the time to build up the bottom of the leg to make them match. That is the kind of refusal to cut corners that I really enjoy.

Holy cow, I knew making trooper armor wasn't easy but your video gives me an all new appreciation for the effort you and others put into their armor /costumes. Thanks for the video! While I doubt I'll ever make trooper armor, I've considered making Mandolorian arnor.

I Really Love your Build :) It’s One of the best i‘ve ever Seen.I also wanted to Build an Armor like you but because it’s Pretty expensive (especially because i would have to Import the Armor to Germany ) i decided to just Buy the Shepperton Stormtrooper Armor, which Looks Really good without Many Modifications 🙂 But i might try to Build a Clone Trooper in the Future and your Videos will be My Main source for My Build 😄

I love watching you put this whole costume together and how you go so in-depth with every little detail. Definitely going to be referencing this series again when I get around to building my own clone. Gotta finish my Mandalorian first!

Greetings from Germany! I came across your video series when looking for some guidance how to assemble my clone armour, and I‘m really overwhelmed by all the efforts you put into every single part of yours - and with what love to the detail you described them for us! Thanks so much, Patrick! Extremely helpful also your download section for the printed parts! By the way: Would you mind to upload the clips for the knees (at 9:45)? Many thanks again!

having you ever considered making a white fabric sleeve/sock for the foam insert on the knee so that you don't have paint chipping?

How's your mobility for walking? The lower tip of my thigh pieces are very tight around my knees (granted that your set is Realistic while mine is Animated 1-3 Season, but I think some mods and adjustments are interchangeable for different sets).

Quick question unrelated to the clone trooper. What program did you use to design the custom PCB's and do you need much experience to start out, or is it pretty easy to learn from tutorials?

I use Autodesk Eagle. There is a free version with some limitation, but none that would affect you in the beginning. There is a 3 part tutorial here that taught me all I needed to know to get started: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y3WM2cyTn9y0ntI.html
