A note from another old Trekkie. I want to express my deepest thanks to you all for restoring a part of my youth. The owners picked the right shop for the job. I'm just short of calling myself a master carpenter (does anyone ever fully learn the trade?). I've worked on many restoration jobs and have many in both state and national registries and think that you did an excellent job. "Live long and prosper!"

Adam, I know Hans very well, since 1974. I have to tip my hat to him on this project. Wish I knew, would have loved to see the shuttle craft, but looks like he replaced 90% of it. In wood boat restoration its called a "comprehensive paint job", you start scraping the paint on the outside until you reach the inside, then replace everything in between.

Clearly both the original builders and the restorers undertook their respective jobs with great pride, well done to you guys. Given that "the Enterprise is a beautiful lady and we love her" it is only right that her little friend should be afforded the same consideration. I doubt I'll ever get to see the Galileo and the original 11 foot Enterprise model in person, it is great to see them both at least on sites like this. Incidentally, how many models could have withstood 50 years of neglect and not collapsed entirely to dust? A reflection of the build quality of the original and skill of her constructors. Lastly, although James Horner didn't write any music for the original series, thanks for using him here - a great composer and gone far too soon.

And if people payed attention to the video some parts were just too far gone but the whole original frame was 80% intact from what was shown. They did not rebuild it,it was restored. Done this many times with old cars, sometimes certain things are just not saveable. Again great job everyone as it is alive again which is better then it rotting away.

I was shocked to see the way it looked when they first brought it in the shop; was it left out in the elements to rot? I grew up watching STOS and have fond memories of when the crew had to take the shuttle to rescue those crazy space hippies on the planet Eden. Good times, great memories, and there never has been anything like it since.

It's nice to see fine craftsmen at work. They truly did an excellent job! I love seeing all their tools. I am intrigued at the "Time Capsule" notation at 06:49 - "Attention Time Capsule enclosed (arrow) 12" over inside impulse deck sealed 9-13-92 K+W" It's in all caps but I thought it would be too annoying to repeat that here. Wow, they did a real beautiful job! It had to be a total labor of love and I imagine have all these craftspeople working with them doing the bodywork and painting and forming must have been done by them primarily for love of it. Its not like this can provide much of a return on an investment, unless the return is the pride on doing it. Otherwise, the shuttle would have eventually rotted away in some crap yard somewhere. I always believed that the design of the shuttle also influenced early mini vans, like the Dodge Caravan or Ford Windstar etc, with their slanted windshield etc.

The second restoration. It was previously restored in 1986 and displayed at the 20th anniversary of Star Trek convention at the Disneyland hotel (I have many pictures of it). It was sold about 1993 to someone in Ohio who left it outside all year round at the mercy of the hard northern winters, which almost destroyed it so that in 2012 they had to restore it all over again. Had it been properly stored in a warehouse it would not have been in such poor condition.

It was proven to be Sasquatch proof to a certain point in one episode so it would be an excellent camping vehicle, and with wood construction in many places, even Starfleet had a budget to consider- Quite logical!

@@DarkWolf-et3dx But it wouldn't be the same as seeing the original.
Great job guys! Amazed you accomplished this amid the destruction of Sandy. Proud to know it was done in my favorite boating community at the Highlands! You are truly master “star” ship builders!
This truly is amazing. Yes it is just an inanimate wooden and metal prop... But I have seen it fly in deep space. I am so glad it was recovered and restored rather than be destroyed. The heart of Galileo lives in that restoration.
Thank you all! For restoring an all American TV series that I grew up with. It has been one hell of a great ride then, and still sparks the same interests today.
Excellent restoration of the original Galileo Shuttlecraft
Adam, I know Hans very well, since 1974. I have to tip my hat to him on this project. Wish I knew, would have loved to see the shuttle craft, but looks like he replaced 90% of it. In wood boat restoration its called a "comprehensive paint job", you start scraping the paint on the outside until you reach the inside, then replace everything in between.

Certainly hop you didn't pitch the debris, of the Original. 'DAMN IT JIM It's a Holy Relic"! I'm just thinking of Our real Shuttle Relics..Challenger & Columbia .in a God Forsaken hanger somewhere.. God Bless the Crews.
I'm bawling like a baby watching this. Am I a nerd or a geek? I can't keep track any more.
To everyone that worked on this, thank you.
Congratulations to a dedicated team! I am glad that this small ferry was not the trash.
Hope the guys from the Enterprise D bridge restoration can get in touch with you. Would be amazing to see Star Trek get the respect it deserves in our worlds museums.
she looks wonderful, great job guys
It's amazing to think that the original 11 foot model still exists, the Shuttlecraft has been fully restored, and the original 3 foot model just resurfaced after forty plus years. To think all three major shooting models still exist is almost against all odds.
An awesome job ... original Star Trek will never die.
That is amazing! Thank you for restoring that piece of science-fiction history and posting this video on the process.
I built the model of the Enterprise and Galileo when I was a kid in the early 70's, how time has gone by.
Wow, a colored box! Awsome!
I just saw it at the USS Intrepid in New York, and it looks magnificent!
It's surprising how much interest this generates. I mean, the "Galileo" is nothing more than a simple box. But, it is rather self contained. No other set in Star Trek was as compact and contained.
We welcomed Galileo here in Houston a while ago. You all did an amazing job. I love it when she's on display at Space Center Houston.
It's a very emotional journey... sad to see such a beautiful part of sci-fi history allowed to reach such as state of decay and neglect and joyous to see it brought back from the ashes to a better than original state. Thank you very much to all the wonderful people that helped to bring this beauty back for all to see and enjoy!

I second that comment..it truly enhanced the documentary along with the live action shots. Perhaps this could be made into a full length documentary. Like " the Building Star Trek video that came out by the Smithsonian. Institute. a few years back .
Beautiful.. Thanks for keeping history alive.
Best video I've seen in a while. Seriously cool. Wonderful level of detail in the restoration. Simply awsome!
nice job guys took me back to my childhood
Thanks so much!!! I want one to live in from time to time...!! Camping...Halliween fun.
I'm glad this thing was restored, and not just rotting in someone's backyard somewhere.
Words can't express how good this is. I hope you will accept "great"
Amazing work. And one of the gentleman (light blue shirt at the end) reminds me of a young Gene Roddenberry.
Very nice job with the restoration! Looks fantastic.
This reminds me of my 350 year old Knife, It has been restored too . Over the years the knife had its handle replaced & sometime in its 350 year life it has had the blade replaced as well , Though it looks in remarkable condition considering its awesome age.

OMG you guys picked the absolute perfect music from the original series and best movies the original cast and crew did, The Enterprise and shuttlecraft were to me as much a character in the series as the real live actors! Thanks so much for bringing back a piece of history from my younger days! Peace and long life!
They went to the right guys for this job. Boat builders have the experience and tools to get the job done correctly. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
omg. brought tears of joy to my eyes. thank you. its a beautiful job.
A shuttlecraft I cherish. Good work and my thanks to all involved.
Wow... Just beautiful!!! Well done...
You know. I have been wanting to buils a camper. That would be so cool to try. To go explore in the Galileo would be a childhood dream come true.
The guy running that hoist would get written up where I work, lol! Nice job restoring the old girl.
Bravo and thank you. She looks amazing.
Amazing stuff. My favorite ship from Star Trek.
Great job on the restoration; but HOLY CRAP, looks like safety totally went out the window! Where's the safety glasses. I used to be a shipfitter and if the safety inspectors came by and saw this, they would have fit and shut the job down!
I heard that they were able to keep three splinters and a paint chip from the original craft in the restoration
Oh man. I thought for sure this prop must be a clapboard falsehood that'd fall apart on a hard sneeze, or even painted into the set. I'm happy to know it had a proper build. I'm also mystified they didn't use it a whole lot more, as nice as it is.
I wonder what that is all about!
My heart was pounding!!!
Great work!! Thank you for sharing!!
The revival of a legend
Really enjoyed this video! Awesome job! Thanks for sharing! 😃👍
I always liked the shuttle craft. :) Great Job it looks perfect!
Nice restoration. Congratulations
Fantastic restoration job. I suspect one or two of those older boys honed their skills on the construction of the titanic, and put to good use here 😁!
Amazing job! Well done!
Ready for an endless series of sci fi conventions!
What an excellent job!! You guys should be proud.

Yes! I remember on the 20th anniversary of Star Trek, flipping through a magazine they had a big article on the Galileo restoration. James Doohan was there at the end when it was finished. It looked like quite an emotional moment. Glad to see someone else remembers this!🖖
Beyond awesome, nice work guys.
Looks like a lot of hard work and just as much fun
what a GREAT job you did!
thx for the narration, it really helped.
Looks just like my Toyota minivan. God I miss that thing! Curse you Grinch!
Not wanting to sound miserable, but it's not so much a restoration, but a complete replacement!
Excellent job & video too!
