As overly long as this movie already is, there was a VHS home version that was 12 minutes longer,... that included much needed character moments from the trio (& added some much needed low-key character-oriented humor)... and those 12 minutes actually make the movie BETTER! I was shocked Wise didn't include them in his director's cut. Anyway, every version I watch, I STILL fast forward through the visual effects "travelling through V'ger" bullshit (along with closeups of the astonished characters faces as they look at the screen).. those 8+ minutes seem like an HOUR! People complain about the boarding the Enterprise in Spacedock being too long, that has nothing on the gratuitous visual effects orgy inside V'ger IMO.

It was a stupid story line, really so Voyager becomes Vger, which in turn assimilates Kirk's first officer, and a bald chick. I left the theater feeling let down. The ONLY good thing about the movie was refit of the enterprise. By the way, it seems Kirk, and Picard are ship killers, both wrecked the enterprise. I wonder how much an Enterprise would cost to build.
@thewestfallmusicgroup9207
29 күн бұрын
I agree with you, 150%; TMP is also my favorite movie with ST-VI coming in at second place. Re those who feel that the TMP story line was "stupid", IMHO, the much heralded (and somewhat overrated) "WOK" is simply a continuation of the classic ST TOS "Space Seed" episode. Hence, as the old saying goes, "There is no accounting for taste"! ; )

@richardwicks4190

@@816taylor I'd argue this was the best film of the franchise actually. I know the original cut was maybe a little agonizing in its pacing, however the story itself was I thought excellent. The story was what does it mean to exist? That is the question is asked. That's quite a bold question to ask in a science fiction film. A machine reaches the level of self awareness, finds out all that can be known in the universe, and returns because it cannot find meaning in life although it knows everything that can be known. I don't really recall the original theatrical release and haven't seen it in probably 35 years, but I do have the directors cut, and I think it would have done better if that was released theatrically. They had a deadline they had to meet, the film was somewhat unfinished, but for 1979, it stands up pretty well I think. Wrath of Khan is often regarded as the best film, and frankly, I would argue it was the 2nd best film of the series although it had a few plot contrivances but it was well done. I don't consider the newer films cannon - in other words, I think they are awful. They are not thought provoking, they are just mindless action like so much science fiction is today. The writing today is horrible and thoughtless. The original series gave me lots to ponder when I first saw them, I would think of the story for days. I can't experience that today, they are all popcorn flicks. They are so poorly written that I tend to forget the plots, what little they have even. Not one of the newer films has a coherent plot. Not one. They are so filled with plot holes that they are just miserable to experience for me.
@andreking57143 жыл бұрын

Great trailer. It highlights what I wanted more of, characterization and how those characters were responding to the treat. It also highlighted what we wanted more of, better pacing. The movie was just so slow and the villain so "inanimate". I get they were trying to make the audience "relate" to the villian through Ilia, but she was just to dry (not her fault). It was as if the true antagonist didn't care. The producers went hardcore when fixing this problem when they made Wrath of Khan.

The one thing about Starfleet that has always puzzled me was this. They have this fleet of powerful ships. Equipped with shields, phasers, and photon Torpedos. They can travel faster then light itself. Yet in regards to their headquarters, presumable in San Francisco on earth, they're never around. You would think that they would keep at least three of their best battleships near the cradle, just in case. But no. The only time any ships seem to come home is for re-fit or to transfer data from 5 year missions. It makes no sense. Now in TNG when the Borg invaded our solar system they showed a small squad of presumably armed ships that never even got a shot off, but given the known strengths of their adversaries, they were snub fighters. The wreckage of their ships did more to slow the Borg then their weapons did, and the wreckage just bounced off out of the way. Anyhow, that has always bugged me. Thoughts?

Still my favorite ST movie. So mysterious is what a ST movie should be.
@816taylor

Hence, as the old saying goes, "There is no accounting for taste"! ; )
My first Star Trek big screen experience . Will always love this film for that reason . Magnificent to see the refit enterprise in space dock .
This is Awesome!! made me dust off the old star trek DVD collection and watch the motion picture. GREAT WORK! LOOKS AWESOME!!!

That was the whole goal. Use the plot with Acts One and Two and then find some really cool images that if you day today would be like "whoa that looks cool, wonder what that's about?"
This movie still holds up, I liked it in 1979 I like it now.
The original trailer had a voiceover by Orson Wells which was awesome!
Modern style trailer but that honors this great movie. Congrats for the work.
See, Robert Wise knew that the camera should be focused on the characters and the story; not director "signatures." Guess that's why he won an Oscar and Abrams hasn't.
Oh I am excited to see this movie! Well done! I like, too that it's an honest trailer - all the themes highlighted here really were themes in the movie - Kirk's obsession, Spock's personal interest...
Oh great... now you made me want to watch it again... well here we go
I remember as a boy how excited I was when this movie came out.
Spectacular!!!! Exceptional editing...check, exciting music...check, focus on Kirk and Spock's own personal obsessions...check. Your trailer takes the original movie in a whole new direction. A billion starts for your efforts!!!!

THAT is a GREAT edit. Very well done mix of modern music to build the drama and anticipation. Just enough storyline and scene cuts to rally grab your attention and getting ready to stand in line to see it on the first day of release.
Now that was a good trailer. It makes me want to see the movie all over again.

It has aged well considering some of the (ahem) recent Star Trek movies and series. It’s only natural to look back and compare them to past movies. One thing that has made the movie age well is the current FX and re-edits made it to make it more interesting.

Very nice. Great work on this! Impressive!

No. The movie is a materpiece. It is the best of the saga and it is the most representative of what Star Trek is all about, where the most important thing is the story and the relationships between the characters. Just the opposite of the stupid Star Trek of jar jar abrams and alex kurtzman. This modern trailer simply does it more justice than the original one.

Thoughts?
Really enjoyed that!
Really well done!
