According to show runner and director Terry Matalas, this scene was not scripted. He just let the cameras roll for 45 minutes. What you see are the actual cast being friends not just their characters. He said he wants to include the entire 45 minute reel as an extra on the Blue Ray when it comes out.

35 years ago, my father used to say: „Let‘s see what‘s new in space!“ and we would watch Next Generation. Two days ago, when this last episode was streamed here in Germany, I wrote him: there is some exciting news in space, we have to watch this together. He passed away that night. I miss him so much. The Crew of the *USS Enterprise D and E* finally get a proper ending. We'll deserved. ◾ Star Trek: The Next Generation - (Seasons 7, Episodes 178 - September 28, 1987 - May 23, 1994) ◾ Star Trek Generations - (November 18, 1994) ◾ Star Trek: First Contact - (November 22, 1996) ◾ Star Trek: Insurrection - (December 11, 1998) ◾ Star Trek: Nemesis - (December 13, 2002) ◾ Star Trek: Picard - (Seasons 3, Episodes 30 - January 23, 2020 - April 20, 2023)

No need to excuse yourself. We are all Starfleet here. We stand by you as you stand by us. And our Captain quoted the Bard of Avalon as just he knows how to do. Hold on and be brave as our onscreen role models were, even against impossible odds. It is out of real life people like you and us that fiction writers get inspiration for their heroes. We don’t have to win every turn, just take the challenge when the tide comes. I salute you.

You don't have to cringe. It's a fantastic final scene.
I wish my Dad was still alive to see this, he got me into this story back in the TNG days and was always the bigger fan. He would have loved this whole show and likely be tearing up with me
Gotta wonder what Orlando is like in the Star Trek Universe if it made it to the top two of the the Vacation for the Riker and Deanna. This season was some of the best Star Trek I've seen since Voyager. Im gonna miss it. So, one last time with feeling, let us make sure History never forgets the name: Enterprise. "Space, the Final Frontier, these are the Voyages of the Starship Enterprise, its continuing mission, to discover strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to Boldly go where no one has gone before!" - Captain Jean Luc Picard, USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D
Just when I thought they'd never be able to repeat the perfect Star Trek series finale ending like in "All Good Things", they did it again! By literally doing the exact same thing! Absolute perfection 😊. I'll miss this crew

@@powerbadpowerbad No. The best way to go out is on a high note. And this was wonderful.
Next Generation brought happy memories. The last episode captured the true meaning of the show. We are not alone.
The real profound ending to The Next Generation
Star trek first contact!! Nice! As in all good things it is today, a family drifted upon the tides of life, called once more to stand as a bulwark against the unknown, hand ever streched in friendship to those out in the void, their journey now over, passed unto the next generation a family sits down one last time, to play hand of poker, 5 card stud, nothing wild and even at the sunset, the skies the limit.😢
I've only watched clips from the series terrified of how it would end. this is all I need to see. we need more of this here. real life fiction, fantasy....HOPE.
This is just... cathartic in some ways. Nostalgic in others. Content in others more. And almost a sense of deja vú. What began 35 years ago indeed ended in this episode. But not a sad ending: a TRANSCENDENCE of sorts. TNG was perhaps a focal point for a return, as well as a revival movement but through its memories, PICARD laid the foundations for a new generation to be initiated. Lower Decks was just the start. The Titan is also but one of them. And so many others yet to come. This ending is the jumpstart to a whole new era of possibilities. Thank you all involved.

I've been critical about several things in Star Trek Picard...but this one is very nicely done! This one is perfect as it is.
This was the perfect ending to TNG. Too many remakes and reboots loose something that limits a stories closure. I am so happy that the writers gave the crew the ending they deserved.
FOREVER A STAR TREK LEGACY MOMENT😎😎😎🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻♠️♥️♣️♦️
The best...star trek ending...thus far! I love it! Wish Kirk could have had moments like this with his crew
'Star Trek: Picard' ends in a most fitting fashion; Jean-Luc hangin' with his homies....but this time, having the time of his life. Going out with the biggest grin in the galaxy. He deserves this, as does that TNG cast. =)
Bravo! What a beautiful ending to a phenomenal season. And Bravo to the cast for coming together one last time for us fans. Best Trek Ever! Or at the very least redeemed it.
This whole season has been a giant middle finger to Kurtzman's god awful vision and I love it
I like how the end mimics All Good Things with the poker game.
The perfect ending of the best Trek since 20 years.

I grew up watching this show. Never in all my wildest imagination would I ever expect this to be an absolute tear-jerker.👍👍 way up...
1:05 - 1:45 To me, the "FIrst Contact" theme being played as Picard made his final speech, best represents the Federation motto: "To explore strange new worlds. To seek out new lives and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before.'
This is how to bring a legendary journey to an end. Thank you for so many things
I'm going to miss them more than before...
Never thought after how badly the TNG cast had it with the films, and even the first two seasons, that we would get something this good. It's the Undiscovered Country the TNG cast never got. Nice work, Terry. I can say goodbye and be at peace with Trek again. On happier terms. Thank you.
I have no words... Thank you, Gene Roddenberry, for the vision.... And to all the writers, producers, directors and especially to the actors who brought Star Trek, over all the years, to life ..... THANK YOU
This is what we wanted. This is all we wanted. A noble and fitting send off to old friends; hope for a new and optimistic future. And Shakespeare? Perfection. This has been the best season. To the showrunners- thank you for giving us what we needed.
I must admit that I drifted away from ST a bit lately... All the craziness, actors act like politicians and all the different conflicting series when at the end only ONE serie with ONE crew - TNG - counts (well two, if you include the original Capt Kirk and the original Spock)... However, after now bench-watching ST: Picard 3, *I am blown away*. The perfect storyline that brings everything together again, from Archer's Enterprise, to Voyager's travel to at the end intercept the Borg, to Data/Lore/B-4 and the friendships between the crew. I literally was crying watching this, so full of happiness in these dark times... People, friendship, camaraderie, working together for a greater goal, relationships and marriage means something again after watching this EPIC 10 hour long movie!!! How Deana Troi and Capt Riker look at each other when he has to leave the Bridge of the Enterprise D with Worf and Picard to save Jack inside the Borg Cube, or how Geordi has tears in his eyes when he gets his friend Data back... Worf falling asleep and snoring on the bridge after all the fighting... Admiral Picard saving Jack and himself once more from the Borg, paired with the music "The Missing Part of Me"... Yes, it is a story from the far future, but the way the story is told is beyond perfect. It simply doesn't get better than this! I am a Trekkie for as long as I can remember, the Enterprise was always with me... What Depeche Mode is for me when it comes to music, Star Trek is the beacon, the benchmark, for everything cinema/movie. However, this Next Generation movie (Picard 3) sets a new benchmark, sets the tone for everything to come. To see the bridge of the Enterprise D again blew my mind, I couldn't sit still on the couch, stood up and was crying... The way the crew walked onto the bridge, so full of pride, hope and thankfulness for all the memories they share. I grew up with Star Trek and Depeche Mode and to see my favorite actors once again come together as a family gave me excitement like I missed from the day when the last episode of TNG ended in tears... This is way more than just a fan writing his love story to those guys, way more than going to a convention to see and hear them speaking, way beyond I ever felt with anything on TV. I would normally say that I am too old for a life change, but this makes me want to change my life. Act, sound & music, animation, or way beyond all of that... Perhaps someone out there feels the same... Thank you, thank you, thank you for this EPIC MASTERPIECE of music and story, perfectly put together in Star Trek Picard 3 with unbelievable visuals of the Enterprise D, Enterprise F and Enterprise G, the Defiant, the Voyager and all the other ships. This is a MASTERPIECE on the highest level... MAKE IT SO! LLAP people out there in this Universe.................... 🖖
Worf , with that soft smile at the end. Priceless.
I was 12 years old waaay back in 66'...as I watched the first TOS episode...with my Jiffy Pop popcorn. Instant Trekkie! Now...sitting here..watching this on my laptop..and smiling at this scene...with my grandson.. Knowing they did it right and it isn't over.
Go grateful to Terry Matalas for giving us one final hurrah with the characters.
I KNEW it would end with them playing Poker!
The theme from First Contact (Jerry and Joel Goldsmith), while Picard recites Julius Caesar, is just SO moving.
Even Worf was smiling at the poker table. Ka'Lar and Jadzeea would be proud!

The agenda, do the right thing for everyone who has been part of this journey over nearly 4 decades. The result, a finale that leaves us all with smiles, tears of joy and hearts filled with happiness. That is how it should be done.
What a touching and fitting farewell to 35 years of TNG. Thank you for giving us one last goodbye.
