Agree. These movies are well made films. Hell the first one has a 95% on RT this one a 87% both have 8.0 on imdb . The public like these movies Trekkies hate them . I'm a huge Spider-Man fan and even tho the raimi movies are not good adaptions the first 2 are still great films and I enjoy them. Trekkies are to stubborn and can't just be true fans and enjoy good movies. But I'm a movie buff too so who's knows.

+AvatarCloud I know what it's like to lose a friend too, and in my case it was completely unexpected, which made it much worse. He was literally there one day, and then next....he was gone. All because of a tragic accident with a stolen handgun his friend had found on the ground and was trying to safely unload it, when it went off and shot him in the head. I didn't even know what had happened until I got to school the next day.

I thought this was brilliant. I can understand the true-blue Trekkie point of view but I think it needs to be remembered that the whole idea of rebooting the franchise was to introduce Star Trek to a new generation of viewers, and not necessarily to satisfy the previous one. With the establishment of the alternative timeline in the previous movie it's entirely fair game to reverse the roles, and that's what I thought was so brilliant about it. With both characters here saying that each is doing what the other would have done perfectly echoes what happened in the original Wrath of Khan, when it was Spock who sacrificed himself. Everybody always says... "I'm only doing what you would have done..." this demonstrates exactly that, that both of them are willing to give up their lives for the benefit of the ship and crew. Two thumbs up from me.

I was actually thinking about that like we know he melded with OG timeline Spock who is to say that in order to help Jim understand better he didn’t show him some memories including his own death. Meaning when he tells Spock that he very well could have meant that literally because he knew in the OG timeline Spock had in fact done it. He wasn’t saying “I know you well my friend” he was saying “I couldn’t watch you die a second time, it was my turn”.

I'm going to get yelled at later but I say it anyway... this is a good scene and people really need to stop comparing to the old. Listen, their were good things in the old movies but their also bad things too. In the first movie near, the end you see Spock and Kirk have started to become friends. But remember the new movie DID NOT BECOME A T.V. SHOW, which people seem to forget. In second one you do see the being but both have different views and emotion on friendship. In scene, you see despite the views the do have that strong friendship. It might have T.V. Show to see it but if one let's go of comparing this scene or the movie to the old one (as well as remembering time travel from the first one does change things a bit) you may see it can be emotional or if your not a cryer a good scene. We can all at least agree it is better than Transformers movie series. I mean I like them (some of them) but this does a better job of bringing back of classic in a new light and style but keeping some of the old. I may not be a full Trekkie but I love t.v. Show, old and new movies to see the light. 😎

Your analysis would only work if this was an original scene. Had it been the writers own idea, the it might have been OK. But its not original. Its not even a re-imagining. Its a shot for shot rip-off of someone elses movie. They even cut and pasted the exact same dialogue. That is not a "new light," thats complete laziness and stupidity. We did not wait all this time for a "new" movie just to get a theft of someone elses.

Here comes the yelling, okay one it's not bad to use the scene from Star trek if it's used right and welll/Second People would have been made if they didn't use it. In the old movie, it was movieabout scafrice. This was more abou friendship and honoringwhat you have now. Some see lazy but I see it giving a different meaning to an old scene that they CAN UE USE AGain if they need to.

TheDisneyLover58 "if used right" It wasnt. "people be mad" What? Why the hell would they be mad? Nothing can compare to the anger this movie got for ripping off the old movie. "more about friendship" No, that was the 1982 movie. That scene involved a 20 year old friendship, not a slapdash scotchtape job of two newbies who just met one movie earlier.

I don't know why but I always get some satisfaction seeing Spock express emotion. I just love seeing him break out of his calm demeanor. I feel these outbursts are some of the film's finest moments, because they're so unexpected. You never know what he will do next. Like how he almost choked kirk to death in the first movie or how he broke Khan's arm (holy shit!) AND almost killed him in the sequel. I wonder what he will do in the third movie.

What I like the most about this scene is that most of the crew (Spock and Uhura included) didn't like Kirk when they first met him. How they all are crying for him now only proves that the crew cares for him more than initially believed. Zoë Saldana is pretty hot as Uhura, but that is besides the point

Remakes/sequels/reboots are always going to get hit by purists but in this case they are on to something. The problem with the new Star Trek is that it is too much in the shadow of the old that it can not stand on its own without relying on some many references from the past - case in point this whole scene along with the Khan shout. In Wrath, Spock's death had more impact because 1) Kirk&Spock had known each other for many long years; 2) Spock's death came in the midst of victory where Kirk had just defeated his nemesis; and 3) Kirk didn't shout "Khaaann!!" In STID we had a shadow of what occurred in Wrath with role reversal of Kirk saving the ship in a long drawn scene of ridiculous portions (reminded me of the engineering section of Galaxy Quest where Signory Weaver complains how stupid it was that the engineering section would be designed in such a dangerous fashion) and Spock kind of cleverly outsmarting Khan (they got those people out of the torpedoes and armed them them pretty quick being there were 72 of them). Anyway, when Spock yells Khan, it really doesn't make much sense since it was really Admiral Marcus that put the ship in the predicament in the first place and Kirk had volunteered to go in that area. Also Khan hadn't been much of an adversary throughout the film either especially not from Spock's perspective - he saved them from the Klingons and helped them board the Vengeance and then only turned on them. Spock's shout is only there because of Wrath and no other reason.

q_fucking_q, Ronin. As a diehard Star Trek fan, I love this twist on the lore. The fact that they have this shadow of the past is what elevates it, not diminishes it, like you seem to think so. It is a remake, If you don't understand the meaning of a remake, then you are obviously lost on this and will never understand. I pity your scope.

SuperBookMonkey I like this scene until the Khan yell. Until then it's an interesting roll reversal where the original scene serves to strengthen it's intent. The yell just felt like the writers nudging me repeatedly with their collective elbow yelling "GET IT!? GET IT!?" in my ear.

I tell you the truth, if this scene (and movie, really) had not been based on a previous movie, and if Kirk had stayed dead in the end, this scene would have been one of the greatest scenes ever created. The portrayal of radiation poisoning can be forgiven and I don't blame them for not making it as gruesome as it typically is, but the music, the camera angles, the dialogue, and the events that led up to this part made this scene amazing.

The thing with this scene is that Kirk and Spock didn't establish a strong relationship yet, Like Nimoy and Shatner. So this scene doesnt have a strong impact and it blatantly clear they did it to mirror the original scene.

I'm going to be honest. I prefer this rebooted version of star trek. now I know some fans of the original is better and there's nothing wrong with liking the original. HOWEVER, I've seen the original and in my opinion I found them to corny (to be fair its just because thats how films where styled back then). To that I simply say would you prefer the EXACTLY THE SAME FILM or just a bit different. That difference was enough to have me watching over and over and really enjoying the world and characters. Again Don't take this as "the old films are shit" that's not what I'm saying.

OK everyone that says this is stupid is indeed stupid.....they don't discredit any of old movies or rip them off. Because of the events in first movie it inturn made an alternate reality where Kirk's dad dies, Spock's mom dies, Planet Vulcan is destroyed, captain Pike dies instead of having the accident and living with Illusionist aliens healing him with girl in the old show and altering who dies from the core in this fight with Kahn...Kahn wouldn't have come around for a while but due to romulans ship being strong from the future in the first movie they woke Kahn to build better ships to withstand attacks. plus due to events in this timeline they didn't get the five year mission yet....so Spock and Jim met hastily and is still a powerful scene without discrediting anything.....watch the old ones and these because it is well linked together. I say they Did a great job by not rebooting but rather adding the alternate timeline.

They had to rush the relationship because this isn't a TV show. If they went at a more "believable" pace and saved this scene for later movies, we might never even get to see it if it turns out the movies aren't popular enough to get more parts.

For us older trekkies. This doesn't have any where near the same emotional pull the other one has because of not growing up with these 2 playing this part. But as you watch it you think of the original series AND this scene done in reverse and suddenly this scene is really amazing. Bizarre huh. Now granted I don't like the rewrite they've done at all and I was already getting pissed because of this copycat scene but really it was one of the best parts in the movie.

  • @theCopyKats

    @theCopyKats

"copycat" scene… it's called paralleling. When you remake/reboot/prequel/sequel movies you ALWAYS do copycat scenes or music. Star Wars does it and it's brilliant. That's WHY it's emotionally pulling. It brings you to an original scene, and it works especially well when there is a generation gap. My dad (THE original trekkie) bawled his eyes out. At least these movies weren't like the star wars prequels (shitty). It gives me hope for new star wars because Abrams is making it and these star trek movies were fantastic.

  • @pendragonshall

I'm going to pretend you didn't mean to come across the way you did an go on about how I'm glad you liked this. It's awesome that people can like the same scene for different reasons and I do hope that Abrams does a good job on Star Wars because the story line for these was terrible, in my opinion, as was the repeat/redo of an already done great story. But if they are like this at least I know someone will enjoy the new Star wars movies, Me, I'm hoping for him to use new untouched ideas within predetermined canon history and create a new story/hero's etc that will be as loved as Lucas's.

I agree that Into Darkness was much better, but the writing was really well done in both. I just give props for the movie as a whole because it's really hard to continue/add on to a franchise that is already this big and loved. Plus, anything that has an "original" or something done significantly earlier is almost always going to be seen as lesser, just because it's not the original. I don't like to compare old to new (although the prequel Star Wars were pretty bad, save for the second half of Revenge of the Sith). I didn't mean to come off as rude the first time but the parallel scenes are done for very specific reasons. (and on the star wars thing, I REALLY want them to do the Thrawn Trilogy, except everyone is too old :( )

  • @Neg8iveZero

I have to disagree. This is absolute garbage. This killed the movie for me. Since when does Spock: 1. Have a girlfriend (Pon Farr anyone?) Remember in TOS when the nurse comes on to him all the time and he ignores her advances? He explains that he only gets the desire to mate during Pon Farr and even then it is a very ritualistic ceremony with strict rules. 2. Openly weep. A tear, sure, a hushed gasp, maybe but openly weeping?! NEVER! Not even if Kirk dies! There were a good couple of times that Spock thought Kirk DID die in TOS and he never even choked up! That, and why would he care so much for Kirk? They don't have the history together that Nemoy and Shatner shared in TOS. They haven't even started their five year mission yet! 3. Seek revenge. Spock is not an emotionally driven being. He is not driven by revenge. This killed Spock's character. We need Spock's perspective to balance out Bones and Kirk. He gives us a rational and somewhat alien perspective on everything that is happening. The last thing you should do is over-humanize him; it destroys the balance between the three main characters. I think Quinto is an amazing actor and he did great with what he was given but this was a terrible decision to make Spock emotional. Even if his human half feels things, he never lets it show outright- no matter how devastating it is.

I know it is not done to compare ID with TWOK but one thing I cannot help but notice: Kirk took the time to look around to confirm his fears by seeing Spock wasn't on the bridge AND to refere the command to someone else. Spock just runs off. (with Spock, that means a lot)
